Everspace 2

I will buy this one as I loved the first Everspace even if the gameplay is different this time around. These guys know how to make an engaging game.

Wow I hardly ever get asked what I think. What a treat!

I played it for 15 minutes.

Plays a lot like Everspace but without the pressure to hurry to the next sector and with much better graphics.

There was one part where I captured a shadow creature and it told me to find another one and when I did they merged and created dark matter. Seems a silly mechanic.

A game like this would have blew everyone's minds 10 years ago but I think it will largely go under the radar unless something drastic changes in its presentation.

Everspace has three ships in the base game, and an additional one was added with an expansion. So, Rockfish decided they'd up the ante a little and put over 100 different spaceships into Everspace 2.

SOLD!

EDIT: Daww...2021 is still the release date. Still a ways off.

EDIT 2: Game might be somewhat short, only a 20-30 hour campaign. Hope there is some sort of open sandbox mode (don't care about multiplayer unless it's co-op).

looking forward to its gold version. Everspace is a great game, i cant imagine this one being bad either. though, the transition to open world could be its downfall if they arent careful.

On the contrary it's likely to be its biggest strength. A lot of people's issue with the first one was the rogue-lite live die repeat mechanic. It wasn't that great IMO and what turned me off of it. This new one is already getting lots of praise.

Apparently the EA version is short and there isn't a lot of gameplay. It's not clear if the main campaign is done but short naturally or if there is more coming later. Might want to wait for a $20 sale coming which may happen soon as the devs already stated some sales are imminent. I haven't decided if I'm going to get it for $40 or not myself, but I'm talking to people who have played it and I'm getting mixed reactions of whether it's worth the $40 or to wait for a sale. Quite a few players have already finished the game as it is, so there's that even though it JUST came out.

EDIT: Campaign isn't complete, so that's good to know. Also only 2 of 8 planets are unlocked at the moment.

I was meaning more on the side of the devs ability to make the open world aspect something worth while as opposed to their main experience of the linear game that was the first one. There are plenty of devs who even after years of working with open worlds that fail to make them actually worth having in the game.
