As suggested in the glorious pc gaming master race forum, here is a separate thread for the console version of Dark Souls II. We have a release date, they don't. We'll be playing this already in March.

Gameplay talks, early frustrations and all. We can infiltrate their thread with spoilery knowledge after the PC version is released.

EDITED. ^_^

This thread reminded me to pre-order today. I'll be picking this up at midnight on March 10th and taking the next day off. :bleh2:

Best Buy. And I think they're doing a midnight release for Titanfall and I'm just getting DS2 as a side effect of them sharing the same release date.

Nice. Well I thought about it and I just can't realistically take a day off from work for a video game anymore, but I will be picking up my copy on the night of March 11 and playing into the wee hours of the night.

I have never taken days off from work because of games, don't think I start now either. I'm not really in a hurry to finish the game in a couple of days. Quite the opposite, actually. :) This is game one of the things that I rely on keeping me sane if I have to go to a surgery later this year. I may need to avoid this thread for a while after release though, as I suspect pcwood will blast through the game a couple of times during his week off.

 maybe, I won't really be posting spoilers though. I'll be far too busy to spend too much time here. :p

My thinking is I know for sure I will be playing through the game more than once, so I'd rather get through the first playthrough, learn the game and make my mistakes as fast as I can to then put together a true build for second time through.

I suspect the new covenants might take some messing around with to figure out which I'd like to join.

We'll see though, but overall I'm seeing my first playthrough as a learning experience.

I know that my first one will be a lightweight STR based build. Those have worked extremely well in the earlier Souls games, so why not this time also. There's been really no way to mess up such a build.

I'll be running 2 builds right from the start. There's a new (not a spoiler) stat that's going to be very important depending on build and I want to weigh the effects of a build with, and without. Got a feeling it's going to be a must have with either STR or DEX builds.

That and because I'm in no hurry to blast through really, just want to enjoy it and have fun with my first time through a new Souls game at launch. :)

Heavy armor, high strength/vit build, with the biggest shield I can find. The bigger the weapon, the better.
I love playing like that. Rolling is for wussies :bleh:
Next build...hmm, probably a light armor dex based build.

Haha good luck with that.:D

I've never had much luck tanking in these games.

Tanking combined with pyromancy is almost gamebreaking in Dark souls.

You can't cheese every boss with that tactic, but it works against most of them.

Yes, I suppose. I remember having to tank to beat The Four Kings the first time. Didn't work for me when I got to Manus though.

My preferred play style is to find a strategy that avoids getting hit the most.
