AIW 128 Pro switch to 9800?

I have the olded AIW 128 Pro which I use for video capture and dialy normal use. I am not a games player.

Will I benefit greatly fro video capture if I were to but the AIW 9800?

Also I can capture upto 720 x 576 PAL format. For creating DVDs, do I need such high format?

I use MMC 8.7

Might suggest the ATi AIW 9600 Pro.. they're selling cheap these days. 9800 would be overkill and much more expensive. 9600 is also dual head and doesn't require the added 12v line. Quieter too.

Actually surprised you can use the 8.7 MMC. Advantage of upgrading would be better TV-Out (Overscan in Control Panel). Tuner might be a little more advanced too. (filters and such)

Theatre 550 (TV Wonder Elite) has silicone tuner and hardware MPEG2. Apparently the digital audio has some concerns though. Hauppauge WinTV-PVR would be an option if you're going that route too.

agreed, get the ATI AIW R9600 or R9700 series. The R9800 would probably be more power than you need if you're not a gamer. And depending on your needs the Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 may also be a good solution.

Forgot to address the DVD format question. 720x576 would be the standard resolution, although you get to play around with the bitrates.. typically 4..8 Mbits/sec. Next step down is the SVCD. (480x480 NTSC)

Mentioned the 9600 Pro because that's what I'm using (non AIW).. along with the PVR 250. Nice combination. Have always used AIWs up until now. Just thought I'd try something different. :)
