Wow, what a shame. Those Kingpin cards were beasts.

Hopefully a company like PNY or Zotac grab him and he brings all his design knowledge to bolster the companies offerings. I really don't want him to go to ASUS .. it'd be such a waste.

Just realized that I might need to stock up on his KingpinX thermal paste.. I don't think his disconnect from EVGA should mess with his XOC offerings, but who knows..

I guess I'll buy MSI again for nV now.

I wonder if Nvidia does pretty much just want to push the AIBs out? In that case it would explain why they don't particularly care about EVGA leaving. Basically they can just offer up terms with a take it or leave it attitude, knowing that if the AIBs leave they can just sell more first party cards.

They don't need to outright eliminate AIBs, just keep offering the same stiff terms, while undercutting their prices with the FEs. Eventually FEs will be the majority of cards sold and the AIBs can decide whether to continue or not.

I mean, typically FEs haven't been used to undercut AIBs. They've been more expensive than reference designs and usually between (using EVGA as the example) like a FTW3 and a Black.

What happened this year was unprecedented, as far as I've seen, and not for nothing.. but we've seen a whole lot of unprecedented since 2020. Madness!

It's only going to get more strange moving forward too. There are a lot of companies out there that are streamlining their production and parts because of 2020. So moving forward there may be some interesting changes to business models.

Ya they always wanted to have vertical integration like Apple. Thats why they tried to buy arm. They havent grown like Apple tho and outside gaming cards they are mostly selling their hw/sw solutions to other companies for ai/servers which isnt as big as a retail business so its been a slow moving process.

It would burn a lot of bridges if Nvidia actually admitted to that. Apple's model is so profitable its the one many tech companies strive for. Nvidia's actions have pointed to it from its acquisitions to its behavior with its partners for a long time. They are just a means to an end. They even tried to create an ecosystem.

I'll help EVGA out by buying one of their 1000w SuperNova PSU's when I get my 4090.

Nvidia hasn't really shown to be that adept at making CPUs. Also I am not sure whether ARM based CPUs are ideal for that scenario? For that reason I don't see them having much success with consoles in the future. The one thing AMD seems to have locked down are applications that require both good CPU and GPU performance.

It seems these are becoming collectors editions?

EVGA has very low stock available for new cards on their website. I don't see them replenishing that either.

Right as they now must keep stock for RMA purposes.

They're withholding stock for future RMAs. Not much they can do as they had already seized (ceased?) production.

I don't know what to do about the extended warranties? Although you can request a refund, I feel like the ball really should be in EVGA's court. If they know they aren't going to be able to honor them then they should do a blanket refund themselves.

Clearly for ten year warranty I'd request a refund. Although, frankly, ten year warranty was a questionable buy to start with. After ten years the card will be so slow that it won't be of much use anyway.

What less clear to me is what to do with a five year warranty, which I have on my cards. That's not so long it's inconceivable that they would honor it (especially since it's more like 3.5 and 4 years now). Also, how long is "recently" for having gotten a warranty? My extended warranties were purchased over a year ago.

Honestly, I'm probably just going to let it go and we'll see if the card breaks in four years whether they cover it. It only cost around $20, and it's unlikely that it ever even comes into play anyway.
