Aiming with a single eye is probably AR territory, not VR, and I think we're quite a ways from AR gaming like we are with VR gaming now.

Anyone going to try out a Meta Quest Pro? Reviews are saying it is at least comfy!
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/...st-impression/
Even virtual reality's biggest boosters may hesitate at the idea of spending nearly $1,500 for the Meta Quest Pro without trying it first. Fortunately, a retail partnership means that people can try the upcoming Quest Pro at select Best Buy locations during weekend demos.

That might be useful once the Pimax ultra high resolution headsets come out. For now I don't have much trouble with performance on my G2 headset.

HP Reverb G2 on sale for $350 right now.

What is that in comparison to? I was going to spend the $2k on the aero but read too many negatives about it. Will wait for the Pimax Crystal instead. Biggest flaw is that there is NO motion interpolation like there is with basically every other mainstream VR headset. Like with the Reverb G2 if you have 40 or 50 fps it still feels like 90fps to match the refresh rate. Aero doesn't have this. Games will look choppy / non fluid in VR on the Aero. Motion interpolation is basically a requirement for a good immersive VR experience.

I think I actually like this better than HL2:Alyx, and that's saying something.

I didn't realise they added smooth locomotion and turning via patch to DoomVFR, which had kept me from playing it. Downloaded last night, this game is a blast! Looks great, runs great, and is a fast paced FPS in VR. A lot of fun.

HP Reverb G2 newest revision is on sale for $399 on HP's website for memorial day. Pretty good deal.

Just to clarify, you're comparing it to the first revision Reverb G2 which came out a year ago?

Picked up a Reverb G2 Version 2 for a pretty good price. Compared to the G1 it's a significant improvement. Image is super crisp and has a larger sweet spot, along with better colours and contrast. Headset is far more comfortable with mechanical IPD slider, and tracking is better. Played some Alyx and MSFS2020 and am very pleased with it. Need to find some more good VR games, it's slim pickings for the most part.

FTC Sues Facebook Over Alleged Monopolization – What it Could Mean for Oculus
The United States Federal Trade Commission today announced it has filed an amended complaint with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, renewing its effort to sue Facebook over alleged anticompetitive practices. The initial lawsuit was filed in late 2020 and was tossed out back in June by a judge which argued that the FTC failed to make its case. The Commission is seeking a remedy which includes spinning out Instagram and WhatsApp. Oculus, the company’s XR organization, is not directly mentioned in the suit, but the amended complaint brings the “metaverse” into the picture for the first time.

Got the new headset in today. It's night and day difference. Something was screwy on the original set. The clarity has increased dramatically and the screens are darker and look much better. There are still God rays but not nearly as bad as the first headset that I got.
This should last me until someone releases an OLED and a good set of lenses.
Come on Valve index 2 in 2022!!!

I think it must have something to do with OLED displays not being readily available or affordable at such high resolutions. Ideally I also would like to have 4 or 5K OLED at 120 Hz. Based off of the Vive Pro 2 and Reverb G2 I honestly don't think we need higher res or refresh rate than that (it can always be better, but we'll be deep into diminishing returns at that point).
With that being said, I guess I am fortunate in that I am not that bothered by the black levels in the G2 and Vive Pro 2. Certainly I'm willing to tolerate it in order to not have to deal with SDE.

-_- weird display tech in that guy. It's actually using both OLED and LCD. Where the centre is a 1920x1920 OLED along with 2880x2720 LCD panel to fill the peripheral vision.
I wonder if I'll get lucky and get hands on with one of these at some point

I'm really disappointed in black levels of the G2, and also disappointed consumer VR manufacturers chose LCD rather than OLED this time around for their next gen headset.
Seems the only OLED headsets available now are the uber expensive ones. Need a consumer version of this:

The return and repair department was overwhelmed. They blamed it on Covid. Anyway, they said they were going to process the return today.
We will see....

Got passed up to the next level again....
This is comically bad at this point.

So HTC has escalated my case up to another department. It'll take that department a few days to get in contact with me.
They received the return but they can't tell if they have processed it yet.
The new headset *should have* been here by the latest on the 8th.
It's not even in processing.
I had chatted with a guy about it on Monday and he had no f'ing clue what was happening so he sent me back to the Return Specialist.... I basically told the guy that they hadn't contacted me about anything and he was clueless..
I think that they lost the return after they received it.
This 8 day process is turning into a month long crazy mess...
This is getting freaking ridiculous.

Well, I guess it comes down to whether you can run those resolutions natively. If you can't you just have to take what you can get. Ideally you'd just have a fast enough GPU to run native res or higher with supersampling.
That being said, I actually think one of the major advantages of higher res headsets is the lack of SDE, which you can still benefit from you are running at reduced res.

That kind of defeats the purpose of the higher resolution headsets since FSR effectively reduces the resolution, which can be picked up way more easily with the eye in VR. Can see in some of the comments some fine detail is compromised, something you don't really want in VR.
