So I got the samsung umd. Tracking is pretty good actually, works with steam vr just fine. Htc vive pro uses the same screen as these do. I also have the rift so the resolution increase is well appreciated and noticeable, however pixelation is still a thing and expected.
Hey guys, I'm trying to sell a second very lightly used Vive. I already posted in the deals forum but no one responded, so I thought I'd post here just in case anyone missed it. I'm asking $400 shipped (keep in mind shipping is like $50), but I'm also willing to entertain offers.
If no one's interested, it's no big deal I'll just list on Ebay, but I thought I'd give Rage3Ders a shot at it first.
Have you tried selling locally with an app like Letgo?
Way better and safer selling locally than Craigslist. I found it alot more successful to sell things, even computer parts, with Letgo than with ebay and even here. And you don't have to ship.

A buddy of mine borrowed my other friends VR unit for testing for his lumber and home design business. He's been testing random games, and using rendering software he designs houses with.
When testing PCars, he got out of his sim while the car was in the pits and walked around the car as it was being serviced. This sounds pretty cool. However, the pit stops in the game are fairly quick, and the car took off with him still outside and looking at it. Well, the game still registers like you're sitting in the car and he was being whisked away at pit speed (49mph or so) next to the car. So it was disorienting as hell while it felt like he was running 50mph next to the car trying to get into the driver seat.
Tonight he recreated the primary office he works in with his CAD program. All the walls, windows, doors, desks, and chairs, etc. Everything was where they should be with a height accuracy of 2" that he hadn't figured out how to fix yet. He was walking around keeping the headset on and then only taking it off when he felt a door knob, desk, chair, etc to verify placement. Pretty cool!

Night and day difference for me. Especially simulation games and Elite Dangerous. You can more comfortably see things at a distance, read instruments and as a result the depth perception seems much improved too. I've never felt as comfortable and immersed in War Thunder and DCS as I have tonight. Oh and of course it's way more comfortable to boot. I might have to bin my TrackIR. VR is back!
All in all, it's more immersive. I can read the stuff on the start up app area now without having to get closer. If that is any indication of how well it does.
My only complaint is that the speakers are tinny. I would have liked more bass to it. I had the deluxe audio strap for the old vive and it had better bass.
That's kind of crappy if the sound is a step down from the DAS. How is the comfort compared to regular Vive with DAS?
Personally I think I'm going to stick with my standard Vive until wireless is available for the Pro. Much as I'd like to have a higher res, I don't want to go back to wired.
Anyone have Samsung Odyssey? Post your thoughts here. I think this is a great alternative, just need to know how the touch controllers compare to the Rift, and current support for Steam VR games. Also how effective is the wireless room scale.

Buddy of mine bought it recently and I messed with it for a couple hours. Resolution is definitely better and the room scale worked perfectly. I liked that white line barriers that popped up in the virtual space when you got close to the boundaries you set. Speakers sounded good, and the head unit was very comfortable. The display is much brighter and more vibrant than the regular Windows MR unit (he has an original one too I've used many times). We played a handful of games on Steam and ran into no issues at all, but he didn't have a large library of VR games either.
While it was definitely better, the experience still led me to the same conclusion. The resolution isn't very good, so the definition still isn't there. Plus, there aren't many VR games yet. So, going to keep waiting for more VR hardware updates. It's a decent upgrade though for anyone looking for a mild bump in resolution and much better displays.

So I sold off my Oculus Rift and bought a Samsung Odyssey. Should arrive by tomorrow.
I thought I would lose all my Oculus games, but turns out you can still use Samsung Odyssey with Oculus Library.

Let me know how the Odyssey is. I'm in the park for a headset and don't know what I should do. I'd very much like the higher resolution screens of the Pro or the Odyssey. Don't know if I should try the Odyssey, just get a Rift in the interim, or save and get a Vive Pro, but the last one is like 1.2k for the package. Which... yeah. Biggest thing about the Odyssey is the tracking stuff I've heard, which is why I hesitate on that. But I'm in an Apartment right now and the mobility of having tracking in the headset sounds nice.

Any of you Rift gais ever have an issue with the sound being distorted and ****ed up coming through the rift headphones?
Makes it sound like creepy clown funhouse time with some applications.
The sound is normal when coming out my speakers.

Have you tried reseating the connections and checking for interference? Even volume levels?
I checked the gpu connection and all was fine so was the rift side connection but I reseated it anyway.
I have been testing a beta version of Oculus so I dropped back to stable when I get a chance to take a migrane to the back of the head I'll retest Bigscreen where I know it can happen.

If any of you guys need a 15 ft USB 2.0 extension cable, I still have one from my extra Rift sensors that I didn't end up needing (still sealed in the box). I can get it to you for about $5 if you're in the U.S. (I am not making any money off this, this is basically just the cost of shipping). Just PM me if you're interested.
I'll wait until Summer to partake of the higher priced stuff.

Put the VR headset on and enter a world where you are the most popular guy around! Dreams do come true! The legendary arcade-shooting game "Gal*Gun" is here in VR!
Also, Odyssey vs Rift anyone have any thoughts?

- For some reason I thought this would be a completely wireless unit. The tracking is wireless (no seperate sensors), but the headset still has an HDMI and USB dongle to lug around. Chalk it up to my ignorance.
- I have mixed feelings about the higher resolution display. In a nutshell, it's still not enough. There's no screen door effect like the Oculus, but there's still a wall of faint pixels you can see. As such, viewing in the distance games is only mildly improved. However, UP CLOSE, the image quality is a substantial improvement over the Rift. Examples include looking at objects up close, characters, reading text, etc.. So the display is high enough resolution to make more details appear with no fuzziness when looking at things virtually up close, but still not high enough to make distant details more apparent (but still better than the Rift)
- Reading text is MUCH clearer than the rift. This is especially apparent when using a virtual desktop.
- Peripheral vision is inferior to the Rift. In fact, it gets a bit more fuzzier when looking at the sides compared to the Rift, despite the higher resolution.
- Big drawback is IPD setup. On the rift, you set up your IPD distance with an in headset cross hair, its very easy to get that set up. On the Odyssey, there's only an IPD slider. You have to look in game and slide it around to see which looks "best". This isn't accurate, because whatever "looked best" when I moved the slider around was always a different value. With the Rift, the in headset IPD adjustment was dead on every single time. Though now I think I have it where it needs to be for my case and I don't mess with it anymore.
- Controllers require a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle. Didn't know about this until I tried to set it up. Have one ordered, you can use an Xbox controller in the meantime.
- Had to uninstall Oculus Home. It kept trying to start up when using any Steam VR game.
- Generally games look better, but its going to depend on the game taking advantage of the higher resolution. Since most of my games were with Oculus, only had Project Cars and Solus Project on Steam VR. Solus Project seems to be locked to a low resolution. Project Cars as well, as though they still think I'm on a Rift.
- Every other demo native to Odyssey looked much better.
-Still debating if Skyrim VR is worth $60, will pretty much be the only game I will play in VR for now.
I need to get my controllers set up, re do my room scale setup, re Steam VR (and reinstall Oculus home for use with Revive), and then I'll have more info.

wasn't there a destination or steam vr background/room thing someone created to help with adjusting ipd on the vive, would think this would work with it also.

Do you have a source for that? Would be useful if true.
