Well first thing you want to do after setting it all up is get oculus tray tool. It will allow you to tweak things like super sampling, disable USB suspend, start and stop the oculus service, etc... It really is a must.

Some good VR experiences are:

First do not sleep on Robo Recall, it's legit and free with the touch controllers.

In fact try all the Free stuff, a lot of it is pretty cool.


non free:

Lone Echo: light puzzles, walking simulator, some shooting all set on a space station/in space with the best use of the touch controllers yet. The most AAA built from the ground up VR game so far, production values (graphics/voice acting) and controls are top notch.

Mages Tale: A lite RPG/Old school dungeon puzzler/crawler . Its pretty sweet. It's by the guys who did torment, wasteland 2, Bards Tale. Heavy on puzzles that give you that holy crap I'm in one of those old school dungeon games moments.

Art1kA1: a decent shooter where you have node based movement. People knock it because it doesnt have full locomotion, but it really does have some good shooting in it, and it has some decent production values. Plus with node based movement you wont get sick. It's by the Metro Devs, but not at that level of production value. Like jjayb says below me, it is good, probably one of the better VR shooters. I know I just finished it, and enjoyed it alot. The guns feel bad ass.

Superhot: its superhot, its pretty darn cool,and really, really fun but really short.

Arizona Sunshine: Free movement zombie FPS, a little janky, but still fun. Actually a lot janky.

Talos Principle: Have you played this in 2D? If not its good in VR. They really give you a wealth of VR options, it isn't just tacked on, but if you already solved the puzzles, I am not sure how youd feel about doing them again.

Eleven Table Tennis: If you like ping pong, well its a spot on version of it. Pick it up when it is cheap, its fun.


If you have Doom BFG, well get the Doom 3 Fully Possessed Mod, you can play the game in VR with really not many compromises. You can put guns in holsters or on your back, use voice commands, etc... Also if your stomach is strong, get MotherVR Alien Isolation VR mod. ITs pretty incredible, but man you have to have VR legs. Might actually be worth getting sick for a bit just to experience that ship lol.

Dead Effect 2 VR is decent as a janky FPS. If you find it on sale on steam pick it up.

I didn't like Killing Floor Incursion: controls were super bad imo. Some people like it though. Its a FPS.


Serious Sam games are done decently in VR, but they are pretty muich just serious sam games just like you remember. The last hope one is a wave shooter though.

Onward is pretty much CS if you are into competitive MP, I'd recommend getting some kind of homemade gunstock to be decent at it. There is Pavlov also. I have both, but honestly havent played much of either.

Elite Dangerous:The VR implementation is super good, but man you have to be into this sort of game. Pair it with Voice attack and a HCS voice pack and it legit feels like you are playing something from the future.

X Rebirth VR Edition: its another space simulator, if you are into these things. The NPC's look pretty wack, and the inside of the ship is not as impressive as Elite, but it seems more accessible to me.

Robo Recall was good, but in a way it left me feeling disappointed because I felt it could have been so much more. It was a good base for a game, but it was asking for some more depth and length. Also, no co-op... Wtf?!! The game was practically begging for a co-op mode!

Other than what's been mentioned so far, I'd suggest:

The Assembly: Basically sort of a puzzle/story game, but I thought it was pretty interesting. About 5 hours long or so.

Space Pirate Trainer: It's nothing but a wave shooter, but it's a ****ing blast. The guys behind it really hit on some great mechanics that keep you coming back to blast more droids. It's kind of like being in a Star Wars shooting range.

Raw Data: Game play is sort of a wave shooter, but later levels they managed to move away from just being stuck in one area. In a way, I feel like the game hasn't aged that well (at one time it was among the best VR games available), but still I think it's worth playing.

Also Artika.1 is on sale right now in the Oculus store.

But, this is one of those times when Oculus exclusives really piss me off. I'd like to play with friends but they're all on Vives. So it's hoping that Revive works with it. Just lame.

You sure Lone Echo is free and not Echo Arena? Echo Arena is the MP part of the Lone Echo, and that has been free before. If Lone Echo is free, that is nuts and people better jump on it.

I know the mulltiplayer part of lone echo, its called echo arena, and it was free for a month or so. The SP portion Lone Echo has never been free...Unless they had a limited bundle thing, is that what you mean?

Yeah, it appears it was bundled with new Rifts for a couple weeks. That's ended now though. Echo Arena I think is supposed to remain free.

Also, for anyone looking for a headset apparently you can get the Vive from HTC for $600 which includes the DAS and a $50 Steam gift card, as well as FO4 (FO4 might be standard bundle now though). Seems this is the best time of year if you want to get a VR headset, with various sales from both HTC and Oculus.

I have set it all up, got the tray tool as you suggested and set that up. Set up Seam VR as well but unsure what to make of it or what to do with it. Biggest issue so far is I cannot use my glasses so things are kinda blurry.

Games:

So sadly Adr1ft will not run with Oculus controller and I cannot seem to get my controller to work.

Alien: Isolation - works but struggling to line up menus and blur.

Trying the free stuff like Mission ISS and other free goodies.

The immersion is truly amazing, just getting used to things.

I ended up letting From Other Suns go for now. I'm hoping it eventually gets a Steam release which would make it much easier to play with friends, but if not I have a plenty big VR game backlog to keep me busy for now until it's on sale again.

Vive here, can relate to not being able to use glasses with Rift. Vive though, no problem even without having to push out the HMD. Huge difference. Almost like they just didn't care with the Rift.

Edit: you can get custom lens inserts for both Rift and Vive specifically to match the glasses. Planning on testing that after remeasuring and buying new glasses.

vorpX just had a major update. They added VIVE support, updated a lot of profiles, added new games.

ESO got a better looking z3d mode, but a lot of other DX11 games now have geometry 3d!

Are you using the latest patch 0.40 for Alien Isolation? As I just started this again and cranked the super-sampling to 2.0 with near all bells an whistles (killed the v sync & anti alias) on AMD 8350 & NV 1070 and it was running @90+fps without dips.

Sadly I have decided to return the Oculus. These devices don't allow to play with glasses very well and when I tried it was still blurry as I use bi-focals. I hope the next gen will have some sort of focus feature and higher resolution.

I bought a HTC Vive with the much improved "Deluxe Audio Strap". I have a set of prescription computer glasses that are single vision made for viewing about 30 inches out and they work great. Everything is clear and my glasses don't hit anything.

Setting up power saver mode for the lighthouses feels like a massive afterthought but I got the driver installed and working on the first try.

The glasses? From any optical store... You have to measure how far you are from a computer screen then go in with that info and they will figure out what is best for that distance. They can calculate it but I suggest you have them go through the lenses. I wear progressive lenses and it's a nightmare using those on a 40" monitor, so I've had these computer glasses for a while. I also have bifocal contacts and long distance contacts... I have not tried those yet. So basically the computer glasses are just single vision glasses optimized for your vision to the distance of the monitor. In my case that is around 30".

I didn't figure this out on my own. I was complaining to an ophthalmologist about it and he was very frank in saying only ignorant people look at computer screens with multifocal lenses.. That's how I figured it out.

Anyhow make sure the optometrist and optician understand what you are looking for as the term computer glasses means different things to different people. They screwed up my initial pair because of this. You may want to explain you are wanting mid-distance vision lenses and just give them the distance.

I also have a 43" curved Samsung UHD I use as a computer monitor and it works great with single focal glasses.

And word about bi-focal or distance contacts... they have no mid vision so I have to use "readers" for them to work correctly on computer screens. I miss my 20/20 vision.

I've wanted a higher resolution Vive for a long time now, but I wonder how it's going to work with the TPCast. I don't know that I'd want to go back to being wired, even for higher resolution.

I mean, the wire isn't that bad. I played with it for a year and a half and the TPCast is kind of a pain in the ass in some ways. But at the same time just not having to worry about tripping on the cord, or having it wrap around you is really nice.

Overthinking it. The issue isn't just resolution, it's pixel fill ratio and the grid (screendoor) itself. You can see this on projectors when comparing 3LCD with SXRD panels. SXRDs have an insane fill ratio, about 90%? Screendoor is not an issue.

What they can do is double the resolution then upscale the input, in effect not affecting performance or TPCAST since the gpu output is unaffected by the HMD... reducing the screendoor effect.

And kill off that pentile ****, it kills text precision because pixel components just don't line up

I tried the windows version of VR and it was awful. Super low resolution and the worst screen door I've ever seen. I used it 15min and decided real quick that I liked it...but I was definitely not ready to spend my money on VR. It can wait.

From the reports so far supposedly the screen door effect is much reduced. It's still there, but not nearly as noticeable. There's still pixelation due to low res (although that can be helped with AA), which is a different issue. We're probably going to need one more res bump to get rid of screen door entirely.

That being said, you quickly learn not to notice it when you play in VR.
