Just got Robinson Journey for cheap... I thought I was impervious to nausea, that game really kick it up a notch Didn't barf but got dizzy a couple of times. Still, game is good up to now. Also bought Wayward Sky and while simple, it's relaxing

To people that owns an Oculus or Vive.
Was it worth the purchase? Does either one of those produce quality content monthly to keep the device from collection dust?

I ask because I haven't heard much VR buzz lately.

              Easily worth the purchase.

              Rarely used for gaming.

There is actually so much coming out now that I dont have the time to even play it all

Oculus is releasing a big game every month now and there are tons of other stuff coming out all the time.

If you buy one now you really wont have time to play what is available before new stuff comes out

The only genre missing from VR is mmorpg, it has games for everything else

I think it's definitely worth the purchase, and I don't regret it at all. VR is by far the most immersive experience I've ever had with PC gaming. You really do feel like you're there. Motion controls are also naturally intuitive in a way that kb/m or controller can never be.

That being said, I haven't had much time to play lately, but that's a result of lack of time and being distracted by other things (getting my Ryzen build working) rather than lack of interest.

Between hardware upgrades and the headset itself I've probably spent close to $2000 on VR, and I haven't had even one second of buyer's remorse. Even if I'd spent that money to play nothing besides Space Pirate Trainer, it would have been worth it!

I think an AMD-designed (or NV) VR solution is likely to provide the best overall experience. Not that this is what this news means, more wishful thinking on my part than anything else.

I'm sure that Nvidia would be pushing harder for content. 3d vision seemed to get a bigger push for a while tbh

Alien Covenant VR Experience arrives on alien day

Both Fox and director Ridley Scott have made bit commitments to virtual reality, and you're about to see just how those commitments are evolving... in an unsettling way. Fox has revealed that Alien: Covenant's VR experience, In Utero, will be available for Oculus Rift wearers on April 26th. As the name implies, the production shows the terror from the baby alien's (that is, neomorph's) perspective as it's born. The teaser clip doesn't show much, but it's already disconcerting -- you can hear muffled screams as the humans realize something is about to go very, very wrong.
"I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies"

Being able to see all the characters in VR is rather awesome. However its like..I'm batman but i don't get to beat up anyone? -_-

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but there's a new Doom3 VR mod that seems a lot better than the previous one. This one has interactions with the consoles by touch. You can draw weapons by reaching around behind your back, or place a weapon on your hip for quick access. Your PDA creates a window in front of you in the world to interact with.

It even has teleportation for those who get motion sick, which is a big plus. I'm not even that prone to motion sickness and I got sick in Doom3 VR after a while. As a conversion there were too many little issues like getting hooked on terrain, or getting pushed back from objects which slowly built up.

Basically it's a true VR conversion! The whole thing seems totally awesome!

Here's a video of the teleport in action (this is actually a QuakeCon style teleport like that shown in the Doom 4 VR, but you can also disable that as an option and just teleport with no time slowing):

Cool, but kind of useless for the type of game Doom is. You can't back-pedal or strafe to avoid enemies without using controller input. Unless the enemy AI is adjusted to remove this, it rather undermines the type of game Doom is.

                                                  Comment

True, you can't move that fast, although you can technically set the teleport to the off hand, I believe. To be honest, I don't find it all that easy to strafe and aim in VR anyway though. I suppose it might be possible to physically duck out of the way of the imp projectiles.

On the whole, Doom 3 is sort of slow paced, so it converts to slower movement better than some other games would. Worst case scenario you can always reduce the difficulty.

That's pretty cool if it allows people with limited mobility to play in VR. Obviously it's not a real substitute for those who are capable of moving around normally.

I could also see it being handy for people with smaller rooms.

I played bridge crew with some friends today. I enjoyed it, but so far haven't been exactly blown away by it. It seems like a decent game, but I don't exactly understand why so many people are raving over it. Maybe it gets better as you get further into the game.

If it were $20-$30 I'd say it was a no-brainer to buy. At $50 I'd say it's still probably worth it, but a bit more questionable. I'd suggest buying from the Steam store so you can get a refund if you're not satisfied.

Actually, upon reconsideration, I'd actually suggest if you're going to get Bridge Crew that you get it now. I've played a bit more with friends and the game can be pretty fun. The catch is, it really needs multiplayer to work. So, it's probably actually better to play now while there's a large number of people playing, rather than waiting until the game is cheaper but the playerbase has started to peter out.

At this point I would expect at least some kind of news about higher resolution optics from the big players like Oculus or HTC. However seems like they want to milk the current gen for another year or so.

Higher resolution optics would make better viewing experiences for both gaming and VR porn (that currently have that VHS tape quality).

                                                                            Comment

I can see why they haven't bother yet, once they get foveat rendering working though it would make a huge impact and worth upgrading to higher res.

They don't need to render at those higher resolutions, just have a higher pixel density like Apple's retina display. The PS4 VR already does something similar to this, has no screen door effect because its hardware subpixel count is higher than the Oculus and Vive, it just renders at a lower resolution that it can handle.

                                                                                Comment

I just bought the Deluxe Audio Strap for the Vive. It's a bit pricey at $100, but it is so much better than the normal strap. Not only is it more comfortable, but it's much more secure, so you can look around without the Vive moving all over the place. I can also now look down without the damn headset slipping out of position (in the past I had to actually hold it in place with my hand, or I couldn't see a damn thing).

It's also nice to not have to put my bulky Sennheiser headphones over the top of the Vive, and put them on and off separately. Audio quality seems pretty good, good enough for VR gaming anyway.

I'd say it's definitely worth the money!
