Finally got to try Doom and it is pretty awesome. For sure you'll get motion sickness if you haven't gotten use to vr touchpad/control movement yet. Motion control aiming is also pretty fun. Seeing everything in VR is so awesome, makes everything looks so much better.


Also tried Penumbra vr tutorial briefly and yep, can definitelytell its going to be scary as hell.

Off of this recommendation I tried Apollo 11 (I had most everything else). WOW, I was totally in awe the whole time. Maybe it's an age thing, I remember watching Apollo 11 footage on my parents reel to reel projector in the 70's. Thank you!!!

Wow... all I can saw. Really awesome. The controls are mapped perfect 1:1. My biggest moment of awesome / stupid so far is I kept trying to peak through the nose gap to see the button labels for what I was pushing, but it took me far longer than it should to notice I was only barely see the real thing while the rest was exactly in-line in the VR image.
Only have time to do the opening First Contact (school wins and I'm d/l Dead and Buried), but I am impressed and have zero regrets in waiting to choose Touch over the Vive wands.

Also... WTB GTA style driving and shooting game. My driving cockpit + touch =

But there is always the problem with motion sickness in something like that

I played it and it was cool actually "being there". However, motion sickness was bad for me. On the scale of motion sickness sufferers, I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm not affected by even tiny movements, but I'm also not someone who can just shrug it off completely.

After an hour of play, I had to stop and lie down. There were a lot of little issues. The movement speed was way too fast. Your bounding box was too big, so you'd get hooked on railing and stuff, which just added up over time and made motion sickness works. It's definitely an awesome mod and I think it has potential, but I'd hold off a little while longer. I put a bounty on teleport locomotion, so there's a chance it will eventually be added for people who can't stomach sliding locomotion.

The other thing is the experience is still Doom 3. I enjoyed the game back in the day, but the experience has no aged well. The weapons have the most pathetic sounds in an FPS games. They don't feel like they have any punch, and a lot of times it feels like you're firing blanks. The game play is honestly pretty bad/boring, and just being in VR can't make up for that. (That being said, I did just do a co-op play through about 8 months ago, so having a recent play through so fresh in my mind probably doesn't help with the replay factor.)

For those now getting Touch, I can suggest The Brookhaven Experiment, and Space Pirate Trainer, having played them on the Vive. They're both wave shooters.

Brookhaven has more of a story line as you move to different locations, fighting enemy waves in each. It's really intense toward the end, and the environments you travel through are pretty cool.

SPT is just waves of bots, which builds up over time. It's a pretty simple game, but it is surprisingly a lot of fun. You can see the most recent trailer here. It does a really good job of capturing how crazy the game can get.

omg, was playing Dead and Buried last night in multi and while I know I looked absolutely ridiculous rolling around on the floor I so didn't care.
That game is a blast.

Oh, and the dozen times I tried to lean on a 'wall' that wasn't actually there to shoot around a corner only to fall on my face....

But, anyway, I went to the MS store at the mall yesterday and got a demo of the HTC Vive. They had the snowball fight demo set up. It was really cool but the negatives were pretty large. The screen door effect was much worse than I thought it would be, the headset was very heavy, and I kept stepping on the cable which would pull my head back. I was wanting to get some sort of VR for xmas but I'm just really undecided if I want to jump in now or wait for 2nd gen.

Oculus rift is lighter and more comfortable for most
The experiances for it is made for front facing gameplay so the cable isnt a problem

Vive has better room scale because of the larger tracking of lighthouse (you can move around more in a larger space)

So it depends on what you want the most. Know that 2nd gen wont come until 2018. I would recommend trying the rift also if its still not good enough for you then just wait for 2nd gen

SDE is something your brain will learn to ignore after playing in vr for a while so dont let that stop you.

agree with badboy on this, SDE will become less noticeable when you're enjoying the game, also not sure what snow ball game they demo to you, as far as I can tell for my vive, the snow ball games that are available on steam doesn't look fun at all.


rift i haven't tried myself but supposedly lighter and less sde so you can always try that also, but as badboy said, its made more for front facing, if you want full room scale tracking comparable to vive you'll probably need 3rd/4th camera.

in anycase you can't really lose if you choose one or the other, can't lose for waiting for gen 2 also.

also wireless adapter http://uploadvr.com/tpcast-wireless-vive-kit-works/ seems to work well enough (don't see why this wouldn't work with the rift also)

I also notice in the video that he went quite far out of the optimal tracking area of the light house (green screen area) and the vive still seems to track very well
