Not really. Don't shunt blame to other people, this is my call. I am not going to wax poetic about this, since I have done so in the past, but bottom-line: I won't give in-depth updates on any situation without knowing it is solid, true, and finalized. Until I can do so, the best I can do is remind people that I will get them information as quickly as I can.

On the rare occasions when things still change, even when they change for reasons out of my control, I get crucified anyway. Sometimes that means updates have to wait until things get locked down, and sometimes that means waiting a little longer to give everyone good info.

I'd rather have had my rift delivered on time then "free shipping". It's a nice gesture, but still a MONUMENTAL cockup.

If I get notice on April 12th that my rift has been delayed I'm cancelling and getting a Vive.

Alot of it seems to work on both.
The wand stuff and roomscale stuff obviously only work on vive atm, but oculus will be putting out their wands at some point too.
Developer interest is obiously to maximize the potential audience, so we'll have to see if valve and oculus is gonna go into a console type bidding war over exclusivity, but lets hope not.

I find that really hard to believe. This is not a custom controller and Microsoft has loads of inventory as accessories, there's no shortage of xbox1 controllers as you can stroll into any store and get one.

I agree with this, sounds like they just want to shift blame

we keep trying to fetch as many controllers as possible from alternative sources to keep the orders flowing (albeit at excruciatingly slow pace)

if that was true we wouldn't be able to buy any xbox controller or wireless adapter etc.

But someone is lying there is no way around that.
If there was a component shortage that oculus had control over then they would know that LONG before release and they just didnt tell people
Thats if they started production before release

Now if they started production around release then then they wouldnt know that until it was too late and that is just bad management. If you know since january exactly how many orders you have then you can start producing immediatly to fill that as fast as you can

And the only component in the package that isnt under their own control is the MS controller and adapter. They dont know more about that than MS are telling them and shipping to them

There isn't the slightest chance it's true.

If it was, why would that stop them from shipping the Occulus Rifts? All they would have to do is ship them and give a credit for the wireless controller, ship with a wired controller instead, or just ship the wireless controller at a later date. The controller interface is not locked to the Xbox1 and you can use the mouse/keyboard in the interim, as people have done thus far with the dev kits.

But they won't ship the rifts, because it's not the controller holding them back.

But you learn to ignore it almost completely so its not a problem at all

Yes you can se the edges and it feels somewhat that you are wearing a scuba mask but this is also something your brain adapts to and ignores quickly

When I tried it for the first time I gone through the setup and the dreamdeck my mouth was open all the time and I was smiling more than I have ever smiled in my life. JUST FRICKING AMAZING!

Havent played any games yet expect farlands. Really cute free game from oculus where you explore and have fun with different creatures. The graphics in this games were jawdropping. I was just studying every inch of the play area. And new stuff unlocks every day so you come back the next day and there is something new to explore and see

The apollo11 experiance is amazing. This is the future of education, to actually experiance it like you are there

Tried some of the VR movies like henry, invasion etc and now I want every movie to be made into VR.

And now for the important part.. the porn

If the headset costed twice as much and it could only run porn I would buy it in a second after testing it out
Its so real! You cant even imagine how real it is!
The bad thing... this will probably destroy my sexlife with my gf...

Glad it's working out for you. And for me, yes... the big thing I'm really excited for is, ironically, education.

I have downloaded a few stereo 360 renders, virtual environments, and videos that fantastically demonstrate how brilliant it can be to be immersed in a situation when learning about it (and this is on a measly Gear VR). Being able to look around something whilst it's demonstrated (instead of being stuck in a fixed POV) will make ALL the difference for mechanics, surgeons, engineers, and students of all kinds in the future. No more questionable diagrams in books or stationary-point videos where you wish the camera was positioned differently.

The only is that damn screen door effect I just can't ignore, and obscures detail if something is a bit too small or far away from you. Once resolution is improved on the display itself - not so much the rendered material - then I'll be able to fully enjoy it.

My mum has actually been having a blast with the GearVR. She loves watching the 3D 360 nature documentaries and whatnot. However, she couldn't stand the Aquatic Rift demo; she kept holding her breath. Seriously. She felt claustrophobic, and couldn't breathe.

Project cars and the Rift (CV1).....OMG amazing. O.K. graphics don't stack up well against my 27" Predator, but bloody hell it's makes the game a completely different experience. Worth the money for this alone for me.
