The installation of MMC is not typically necessary for the proper installation and functionality of the AIW line with T200 chip in MCE. A MCE “extender” is a hardware device such as the original Xbox, new Xbox 360 or the stand alone MCE extenders made by the likes of Linksys and others.
X-Nemesis needs to install “Media Center Edition Catalyst drivers” (not XP Catalyst drivers) and the “Media Center Edition Encoder” (file name 9-13_encoder.exe or higher) to enable the tuner on his AIW X800XT. He could also use the Kram mod pack.
After which MCE should be able to see his AIW X800XT and configuration with the MCE PVR software can begin.

Where can I dl the Media Center Edition Encoder? I clicked a link for it from a google search which brought me to an AMD page saying unauthorized download. I'm pretty sure I did install the media center catalyst driver from amd but just to be sure is there a way to double check?
The ATI doesn't like links, they seem to expire readily....
Go to the main page. Choose "Drivers and Software" from the top. Choose your OS as Windows MCE. If you have an ATI video card, ie and AIW, choose the Catalyst download, 7.1. If you have a tuner card, choose your card and download everything, but you don't need the Catalyst Media Center from the bottom.
Unfortunately its exceedingly difficult to post a direct link to anything on the ATI / AMD site so even if I knew it I couldn’t post it.
I looked for the “Media Center Edition Encoder” (file name 9-13_encoder.exe or higher) and can no longer find it.
What I did find was:
Encoder Package - Encoder, Parental Control, Visual C++ Patch, Avivo Video Converter** **Avivo Video Converter will only work with X1000 series products
So it looks as if yatalok is right and it has been moved from a stand alone download / install (most inconvenient IMO) to a part of the ATI AVIVO package. I have not tried it though since I don’t have an immediate need.
And the 7-1_xcode installer does indeed look to be the most recent version.

OK, first you can find some older stuff by looking at the bottom of the page for the most recent driver, 7.1, and choosing the older software link. This will at first only display a list of older Catalyst versions, but when you go to a link there is also the corresponding MMC from that date available. (That is, follow a link to a Cat for last May or so, and there will be an older MMC on the same page.) So for example go back to around Cat 6.2 (I think that was it) and you will find MMC 9.13 on that same page.
With the older MMC downloads, you will see
"ATI Display Settings Media Center Extension" which yields 5.10_mce_extension_27472.exe. This is the only unique file available on the site. I think this is what Caveman Jim was referring to.
I've never seen anything like 9.13_Encoder.exe, no offence Agustus, it may have existed, I don't know. The encoder for MMC 9.13 is a version 5.10, so I don't know where that encoder you refer to would have existed.
LOL, no offence taken, we are all trying to help and that’s really what’s important IMO.
I will point out though that I have this file downloaded and probably stored on more then one system. I can be disorganized at times but I can also be organized too. When I download files from ATI / AMD, I cut and past the link name ATI / AMD uses and use that as the download file folder.
The folder is Windows XP Media Center Edition Encoder
I believe it installs the "atimcenc.dll" that yatalok mentioned as I can track its presence through a number of different installs (using 9-13_encoder.exe as the install source).
This is what I have essentially used to install and enable my AIW cards along with whatever was the latest “Media Center Edition Catalyst” drivers.
Since I have the file saved I can continue to use it in MCE 2K5 + AIW installations but if there is an updated version it might be better to use that rather then something older regardless of what form it may now take.

Agustus essentially indicated this earlier today in his 07:59 AM comment by pointing out that the Encoder Package in this latest MMC release has the encoder in question.

OK, I was about to install the 7.1 cats anyway, so I removed all ATI software, and then a ton of system32 dll's manually. Then I kept an eye on things throughout the reinstall.
atimcenc.dll shows up now with the MMC install, the fourth part of the download that is actually "MMC". Whether this is the file that MCE needs, MCE wouldn't see a TV signal untill after MMC was fully installed.
Something I may try tomorrow, uninstalling MMC but keeping atimcenc.dll and then seeing if MCE works fine. AtiTimeshifter, I know you want to avoid having MMC at all, this may be what you have to do.
Since you have the 650, some or all of these dll's may show up with the 650 install, so let's see.
Now I have a question: In MCE, in "More Programs" I have some kind of legacy from a previous installation, "ATI MCE Video Converter". It's no longer functional though. Where did that come from? My previous MMC install? The 650 install I did last week? (Note, I decided to return that card since it wasn't picking up my cable feed well enough.)
