    Connector Advise!

    Hey Guys,

I just got an AIW9800 Pro last week. While i'm over the moon....I discovered a little problem. The connector for the antenna to the TV Tuner...is differrant.

See i've owned AIW's before and they had standard connectors for the aerial..and the antenna with the standard connector i've used all this while doesn't fir the new one.

Can anyone tell me what connector is required for the Antenna? As in specifically..what is it called as I'm clueless when it comes to cables......

    Thanks in Advance

Every AIW uses the same coax connector for the tuner including the AIW 9800 pro. It looks like This (without the backing nut).

Yours looks like that, Right? The antenna cable end looks kinda like This ?

      Hmm

Well man, it seems it looks simmilar but my antenna cable which i used for my AIW 128 Pro has a smooth connector not a a spiral one like this. Can i remove this backing nut? Sorry i sound like a dud, i'm not fammiliar with these connectors like I said before

        Second Thought

Well the 9800 Pro connector does look like that but my antenna connector is diffrant. Like i said it's smooth (male) and doesnt not fit. What is the specific name for the type of connector I need to fit it with? As in what would i ask for in an Electrical store? Thanks for the response.....

The AIW you have has a 'F' type connector on it .

This is a standard style connector used in the USA and most NTSC regions ; it is also used as a standard on most satalite boxes (all regions)

Most pal regions use a standard coax connector which is smooth sheathed male and female , not a screw fit as with the 'F' Type connector.

You can buy cables made up with coax connector one end and 'F' type the other end .

Try not to use an adapter as the signal carried by the cable will suffer from both signal loss and some unwanted attenuation .

I am curious what is your broadcast standard and where did you buy the AIW ?

It's NTSC and it's from the US. What do i ask for from a shop then? cuz i've found it had to find anything other than the smooth cable here as the standard here is PAL (pretty silly of me not to give this whole issue thought prior to buying it) ...hope i can find the proper connector....

If the standard for your TV is PAL, exactly how is it you think an NTSC tuner, which is what's on the card, is going to work??? (In other words, the hookup is the least of your problems).

Unfortunatly you have wasted your money .

You will get NO TV functionality as the tuner is designed for NTSC broadcasts (and the one strange PAL broadcast that is more like NTSC than PAL )

If you bought the card from a dealer get it changed or refund.

If you bought the card on ebay or similar then you have fallen for the usual scam with these cards that the buyer thinking they will get a cheap card ends up with a unusable card because they didn't chec the TV tuner region.

If the TV broadcast in your country is PAL and not NTSC compatable then there is NO WORKAROUND to get your card working , you have an expensive but powerful 3D card (that is if your card is a PRO and not an SE which is the other pitfall of buying cards like this !!)
