Rumor AMD wants to be bought out

that would sure piss off NV

    ………

but I think it is full on bullshit .

    ..

they are not making a lot of GPU's because they are making

Sony has now sold more than 10 million PS5 consoles

By comparison, Microsoft is estimated to have sold 6.5 million Xbox Series X and Series S consoles as of June 30, 2021

that is a lot of 7nm TSMC wafers with all the shortages

plus all the 5000 CPU's that are everywhere for MSRP now

Shop Processors - Desktops on Newegg.com. Watch for amazing deals and get great pricing.

they are not making many GPU's now because NV won this round and they need the wafers elsewhere for products that will sell better

but stock is going up because they are making money hand over fist

    ..

1H 2022 they will kill with RDNA 3

that is one of the dumbest ideas I have seen in the tech rumor space in A WHILE.

Given the chip shortage AMD has focused efforts on custom SOCs because they have a contracted delivery target for those and their CPUs ESPEICALLY server where they are making HUGE gains and the server space is where the money is. AMD is taking advantage of the current market that is selling every GPU that gets thrown up and is pricing around that adjusted market. AMDs market cap is 144 billion as of close today. Xlinix is 35 billion so combined market cap of ~179 Billion US.

AMD has FINALLY caught up with the majority of consumer CPU demand. They still can't keep GPUs in stock ANYWHERE. Still back ordered on server CPUs . and is now launching consumer APUs which GIVEN the gpu shortage will sell like freaking hotcakes.

TSMC - cannot buy them conflict of interst in customer base if TSMC starts making products they will lose MASSIVE amounts of business from companies who wont be able to trust them.

Intel is at CES in Jan 5-8

even if raja has nothing I don't think they will want to wait that long for a new card if they can get the 5nm wafers
as they are not making a lot of 6000's

and hell intel could surprise us all

nah more likely per NV they do 6xxx series refreshes in line with the NV 3xxx series refreshes maybe shrink them to 5nm but it wont be RDNA3

Well theres not a lot of choice of where to build cpus so TSMC would still like the business. Even intel recently started to outsource cpus to TSMC and offer to make silicon in its fabs for others in the future.

I dunno but when stock prices go high there is a tendency to cash out.

I doubt the margins are as good as the other products that said yah they can't keep GPUs in stock at least not 6800+ versions. You can get aftermarket ones in stock of course but they're $1300+ for everything.

I tried the queue system this morning on the AMD drop and 6800+ were all gone before I could get anything. 6700 was in stock a lot longer though.

Also, what would the benefit be to TSMC to buy them? Why wouldn't TSMC just focus on their current business of being a fab? It just doesn't make sense from a business standpoint in my opinion. Right now they make stuff for everyone, and focus on keeping their fabs updated. Why do they need to make their own stuff?

On top of that, if anyone wanted to buy AMD their chance was a few years ago. Now the stock is not exactly cheap. I think that ship has sailed.

Samsung has the same issue as TSMC in that they're a fab. Microsoft just throws a monkey wrench into the whole Wintel alliance, and their bread and butter is software and computing stuff, they don't really need to own a hardware company.

AMD is also doing well enough now that I don't see them wanting to be bought. I think this whole thing is off base.

AMD's store works on a queue system now. When they have an 'event' which is on Thursday mornings you get in line and when the event starts you are assigned a random spot. When your turn is up then you can get access to the store to try and buy something. Some people get right in, some people get stuck waiting various amounts of time.

I waited 8 minutes. At minute 5 I was seeing discord remarks that 6800xt was sold out. By the time I got in after 8 minutes I could not add any GPU to cart successfully except the 6700xt.

If you get lucky and are at the head of the line and either get right in or wait only a couple minutes then you have a chance at a 6800+ card. Otherwise, you do not.

This is by no means scientific but here at Rage what's the card breakdown? Someone should do a poll to find out.

Rage didn't have a resident AMD pusher like you did for NV

@acroig - I thought the same thing. It has to be at least a 10:1 ratio.

Better than nothing I guess? Dunno....
I suppose if you're thirsty enough.

I'm thinking of replacing the two rdna1 cards in my mining rig with a reference 6800xt. The idea is to downsize and consolidate on rdna2 while coming out a little ahead on money after selling the two rdna1 cards.

I didn't get what I was after and am in no big hurry. There is always next Thursday lol

I'm hoping to land a 6600XT. Not for me but for my brother who wants to get into PC gaming now... (yea.. shitty time to do it) but... no choice I guess?

As for the OP- Nah. Lisa has too much tied to her contract on AMD's performance and she LOVES being in charge. She's a great leader and a damn good engineer. After seeing why they wanted to buy Xil, she's got some pretty big plans for AMD's CPU and GPU designs. Especially in the data-center space.

Rage didn't have a resident AMD pusher like you did for NV
, fair enough but think about that, how many were able to get their hands on a 6000 series card? Very few....

I don't think they made near as many cards as NV did too many game consoles sucking up the wafers
