I will say with renewed competition from AMD it could be that both companies try to deliver products faster, or that the next gen sees a bigger than usual (or at least what's been usual lately) increase since neither one wants to get one upped.

      May 27, 2016: 1080 release date

      September 17, 2020 : 3080 release date

Based on this cycle RTX 4080 should be around the end of September 2022.

AMD had only 16 months between the 5700 XT and 6800 XT, but they also had to catch up after slowly falling behind. If AMD keeps to an 18 month cycle even I guess we'd see something around May of next year, but I am not sure whether that's realistic given the supply issues.
Nagorak a small correction on the above. The 6800XT was a NEW high end GPU and NOT a replacement for the 5700XT. They are in two completely different price segments. It's like saying the 3080 was the replacement for the 2070 which obviously it wasn't.

The 6700XT is the 5700XT replacement so add another 4 to 5 months to your calculations and it's not far off 2 years. I know I owned Fury, Vega 64 and 5700XT so 2 years was roughly my upgrade cycle and I usually bought on or near release. TBH after a blower Vega 64 I did wait a few months for an AIB 5700XT so it's horses for courses. Which is much the same with the AIB release of the 6700XT so 2 years ain't far off.

IMHO a 2 year cycle is fine as not many games come out in that time frame to really tax a card. A year or less is a bit meh TBH but that's just my personal opinion. I'm not interested in that upgrade cycle although I'm sure some are. I went from a mid range 5700XT to my present card so I'm not in a hurry to upgrade.

My big beef with AMD was the poor driver support for the cards mentioned above at release and it often took 6+ months of driver releases to iron out the issues and make the cards run as they should. Unacceptable for me to release a GPU with sub standard drivers. Look at places like Gamers Nexus who have posted videos about this issue. It's basically a schoolboy error by AMD.

I've had my NV card for 8 months now and had no driver issues at all. I've flashed the Bios, enabled Resizable Bar and all has gone well. Very happy chappy indeed.

AMD RDNA 3 Navi 31 And Navi 33 Radeons Listed In Open Source Tool Set
It is expected that Navi 31 will power AMD's highest performing graphics cards within the RDNA 2 range, those being the Radeon RX 7900 and 7800 series. Multiple recent leaks and rumors suggest the Radeon RX 7900 XT will feature up to 15,360 stream processors.

Rumor has it Navi 31 will be configured in a dual-die (multi-chip module, or MCM) design, with each GPU sporting 30 RDNA 3 WGPs, along with 256 stream processors per WGP. These work groups would contain the CUs. Navi 31 could also arrive with a 256-bit memory bus, and an expansion of the Infinity Cache allotment to 256MB or even 512MB.

I hope it has a bigger bus than 256bit, especially if it's MCM.

Rumor is the non gpu die isnt an IO die but pure cache. So if they go 4x on the IF cache on die plus the extra die they might not need more than 256 bit.

                      60% for every tier ...

They need to increase the performance very much for the next gen to actually matter offset the huge price increase that will come.

So if this is true i may afford a 3090-performance like tier. The 7700xt will halve the 3090 price...

if there is no big shortage and GPU mining is dead like they say

then the 7800 xt most likely 2080 ti price 1199 stock to 1400 aftermarket

                        7900 xt 1500 to 1650

and NV's Linda BJ will be higher

AMD RDNA 3 Navi 31 MCM to feature 256-bit GDDR6 memory, Navi 33 expected to outperform RX 6900 XT at ~US$450; Nvidia RTX 4090 AD102 to use 384-bit GDDR6X

It will go for double that price when released if we are in the same mess we are in today. I wanted to just go buy a $200 1660 Super That's not happening!

Unfortunately it's more to do with supply chain issues than production. I watched a programme yesterday that showed shipping rates have risen six fold in last 12 months to over $12,000 per small container from Asia to USA. They showed a ship unloading in Portsmouth dock with all it's timber in the hold as they had no containers.

Instead of 72 hours it took 7 days to unload. The containers they should have been in were in the wrong place and to get them sorted will take at least 7 weeks. It's a crap shoot at the moment and GPU prices will not drop until this issue is sorted out. This doesn't include the spread of the Delta virus in the UK USA or Asia.

None of this is going to change until people quit buying the ones that are in stock for double the price. I see Microcenter near me has 6700 XT's in stock for $800 and half of the 16 they had today sold at that price. Cant even buy a budget card right now for a decent price.

Calling the 6600XT mid level .. eek!!

That's some low tier crap. These prices are nuts - imo the AMD AIBs should be sued for how far they're going. I laugh when I see a 6900XT for $2699 .. that's literally it's MSRP - which is so ****ing hilarious because who would smoke enough crack to actually pay that much for a card that struggles with RT? It's insane lol.
