It's more likely they are extending the feature set of the CU's further. As the article mentions, CDNA already is capable of this.-Trunks0

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-rdna...ide-memory-bus
Def a good thing to move to a wider 384 bit bus.
The calm before the storm. It has been relatively quiet in terms of leaks for RDNA3 architecture. However, it appears that AMD themselves made a surprising commit to AMDGPU Linux drivers, which has been immediately spotted by Kepler and other leakers.
The patch lists MCD_INSTANCE_NUM which is a number of supposed Memory Complex/Controller Dies for RDNA3 Navi 31 architecture. Interestingly, just a week later AMD replaced MCD with UMC_NODE, seemingly to hide the leak.
If this is true, then this would confirm previous rumors that Navi 31 has a single GCD (Graphics Complex Die) and six MCDs. Ultimately this means that the card has a 384-bit memory bus and most likely a total of 192 MB of Infinity Cache or 384MB if AMD were to use V-Cache on top of each MCD as suggested by Kepler.

16384 shaders? dang... They have dropped prices lately but its finally looking like clearance prices... I think the 7950 will be 1500$.
7900 1200$
Way it sounds lately tho theres only one compute die. Some recent leakers seem to be going that route. 1 Compute die and 6 MCD. Not sure they could fit 2 of those short of doing a dual gpu board a la R295x2.I talked to the tree. Thats why they put me away!..." Peter Sellers, The Goon Show

there was some leaks that only the 7950 would be 2 compute dies q1 next year
We don’t know whether the supposed Radeon RX 7950 XT will be a chiplet-based design or monolithic like Navi 31 (ignoring the MCDs), but RedGamingTech claims the former. According to them, it’ll feature two Graphics Compute Dies (GCDs) with 64 CUs and 8,192 shaders, each. It’s unclear whether the Infinity Cache will be scaled as well but 512MB is being speculated by some.AMD’s Radeon RX 7950 XT May Feature Up to 10 Chiplets: 8 MCDs, 512MB Infinity Cache, 512-Bit Bus, & 16,384 Cores [Rumor]Last edited by bill dennison; Jul 14, 2022, 06:44 PM.

AMD's Next-Gen Flagship RDNA 3 GPU Die Might Be Much Smaller Than You ThinkAccording to Greymon55, the GCD, the actual "processing" part of the GPU, will only be 350 mm² This is controversial primarily because seems like an improbably small processor for the predicted specifications of Navi 31. The top-end RDNA 3 part is expected to have 2.4x the shader cores of Navi 21, and even if we account for the shift to TSMC 5N, as well as the removal of the memory interfaces and Infinity Cache from Navi 21, we would still be looking at some 375 mm², according to German site 3DCenter.Kepler and Greymon55 are actually in agreement on the die area. Kepler's original statement about "total die area" seems to have been including the six MCDs that we expect the final product to have. He himself commented on the surprise at the die area prediction, noting that the RDNA 3 architecture actually discards "a lot of old architectural bloat."

So they think the each 'extra' 128 megs will be on its own chip and data paths the one 128 IF cache in the 6900xt... Not sure that will be true on 5 or 6nm node. It could be just one big cache on the Compute die or have smaller data paths on the separate MC dies... not being on die will probably cause some BW/latency hit.I talked to the tree. Following Nvidia RTX 4000, AMD allegedly bumping up power draw for RX 7000 (RDNA 3) too
The report comes via YouTuber RedGamingTech (RGT) who says that the Radeon team is increasing the total graphics power (TGP) of the top end Navi 31 chip from 375W to 405W, which is bump of 8%. Meanwhile, apparently there will also be another more efficient SKU based on this that will feature the 375W TGP.
