The 3080 is a great card. Definitely not the savior of gaming or excellent value that many reviewers have made it out to be, but at 4K, I don't really find AMD's offerings too enticing. As much **** as I give DLSS, it's a useful feature that immensely increases performance with a much smaller hit to image quality than your alternatives (lowering resolution, dropping shadow quality etc etc).
Regardless, I don't think consumers can go wrong with either option this generation. AMD really overpriced the 6800XT and the 6900XT, that seems pretty obvious to me looking at reviews. The 3080 is also overpriced, so is the 3070. IMO, the best cards right now are the 3060TI, the 6800XT, and the 3080. Everything else seems kind of pointless.
The 6900XT really could have packed a huge punch if they would have put a wider memory bus to allow it to stretch its legs at 4K, but nope, went for the profit margin route.
