Q3 fps thingy

Alright i argued with a this guy how this thing worked and all that stuff and then i got lost in i don't know what anymore. He claims he has 500 fps in q3 at 1024x768x32.
His specs are athlonxp1800+(not-overclocked)
256 MB ddr 2,5 266
gf4 ti4400
and duno what hd

Now i'm confused on how q3 and the fps actually works.

He used the command /com_maxfps 500

/com_maxfps xxx = setting the max frames you can attain. a frame limiter.

personaly, 500 constant? no, 500 when all settings on performance and looking at the floor in the introductory map, or a custom made BLACK TINY BOX, maybe.

get him to tell you all his dettings first before oyu beleive him, 500 FPS means dick when the came looks worse then an Apple II game.

{edit} i think he is confused about what /com_maxfps actually does.. tell him to type in /cg_drawfps 1 to display his REAL FPS amount
