    SS:SE troubles with WinXP/Catalyst drivers

I know it's an old game but I'm having a very hard time getting it to play for more than 20 secs. I can get through everything fine but it will freeze right away when I start the first level. I also have the latest patch and the latest catalyst drivers from ATi. It's not from OCing so I'm open to any other recommendations. Thanks for any help
Works fine on POS GF3, but I don't wanna play it on that

SS:SE is a funny one. For me, the demo would lock up every 20 secs or so just like it does for you, but then when I tried the full game it ran perfectly from beginning to end without a single fault (SS:SE is even madder than the first one - makes Doom seem like Riven!)

    I would:
    1. Get the new 1.07 patch from here.
    2. Check the FAQ. There are lots of things to try there (lots of problems can be caused by joysticks and cable modems, it seems).
    3. Get the new setup scripts (might be included with the new patch - not sure).

Post back with how you get on.

Thanks alot for the links. But nothing seems to help. The game looks absolutely awesome for the 30 secs I can play which is why it's getting to me. In OGL the game will crash instatly but in d3d I can run around for a few secs before it happens also. Thanks again for the help, but the only other thing I can try now is to use the drivers from Cyborg/omega.

Does the sound loop when it locks up, or is it a "hard" lockup?

Before giving up completely, does it run OK running your CPU and video card at stock speeds without any overclocking? SS:SE can get your chips hot in no time at all.

Yes the sound does loop and it won't run even at stock speeds. I can play the first SeriousSam no probs but not this one. I don't think it's from my OC because I can run any game 24/7 without a single lockup. I have tried the 6094, 6118 and Cyborg's drivers with no luck. Maybe it's just hates my PC...and I wasted $20.00. Thanks for all the help, but I've pretty much given up with this game

            Don't give up yet!

This thread is full of people who are having exactly the same problem on the official Serious Sam forums. I didn't read them all, but there are plenty of ideas to try.

One guy got his working by disabling the COM 1 serial port!

You are the man for coming up with all these solutions. I really appreciate it, but nothing is working. I even downclock my PC and still nothing. Disable everything...but nothing. I really have to give up as I'm starting to feel real bad doing a hard reset everytime I try playing it. I guess I'll have to settle playing it on my GF, but it ain't gonna be the same. Thanks again

Sorry it's still not working. I really wanted you to see the "variable gravity" room which blew me away (for those of you it did work for, I mean that long cylindrical room where you can run all the way around the inside of the wall).

I'm running out of ideas for you now though - sorry. If I have any more ideas I'll post back.
