How was Inscryption? I loved Pony Island by the same author.
Amazing! I was struggling through the first act for a while thinking I was going nowhere, and then once I understood there was more to it, I pressed on. I basically played the remainder of the game in a night or two, not wanting to stop!
1. DOOM Eternal. Played it through the MS GamePass. I enjoyed it, as the mechanics are cool and the base experience from DOOM'16 is of course absolutely phenomenally awesome. However, I did feel it was very 'busy' for a DOOM game. There's lots of (optional) stuff to read, there are a lot of icons to keep track of for upgrades, and the gameplay loop is occasionally broken by platforming and end bosses of sorts.
2. Wreckfest. FlatOut is one of my favorite racing games ever, with its brilliant mechanics allowing for both pure racing, and for complete chaos. Its sequels weren't as outspoken, but Wreckfest is a return to form for the series (even without its original IP name). I'm a little sad that causing chaos doesn't give a boost this time around, so you have to be more careful, but there's still no better feeling than folding an opponent around a tree in a horrible collision.
Good month for gaming. Also started a few other games but won’t be finishing them anytime soon. I will spend some time in 2042 and if I don’t get better in it and shelve it then it is going in for December month.
Star Wars: Fallen Order. Good looking game with nice, immersive environments. I think some of the platforming ruined the immersion and the shallow force pool kept the force moves from being cool enough to use. 6/10
Halo 2. Still not understanding the appeal of these games, but then I'm only playing the SP campaigns. 1 level in Halo 3 now, which has worse looking graphics than the Halo 2 remaster.
So I had some good stuff going on in October. Really fun releases despite some of the criticisms to some of these games:
667-Guardians of the Galaxy: Amazing movie with ok gameplay tacked on. I don't feel mad about it as I enjoyed it thoroughly.
668-Deathloop: At first it was slow to get into, then I enjoyed it a lot, then it kinda dropped lower for me with some of the frustrating puzzles and story elements. It is still a great game, but slightly overrated because it got a bit too convoluted, for me atleast.
669-Battlefield 2042: It is as bad as a BF release can get BUT I haven't played BF in a while since BF4 and didn't like the historic BFs. So this scratches an itch. The fact that it has crossplay and 128 players is also a big thing for it. Also, HUGE maps. Love that. Hazard Zone is ok. Portal is ok. Will continue to play it. Already clocked +50 hours.
670-Forza Horizon 5: I skipped 4 because I got burned out on 3. It was nice coming back. Though after the initial glitter, for me, it is more of the same. Still, a nice chill game. Will continue to play it every now and then. Finished all events.
In our 4th year doing this it is amazing how many members are participating throughout. I hope it has helped you as it helped me keeping my backlogs in check while enjoying my games.
As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career and the occasional travel (not counting 2020).
Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.
Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.
Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.
DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.
Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.
Completed Games:
667-Guardians of the Galaxy
668-Deathloop
669-Battlefield 2042
670-Forza Horizon 5
