Without really engaging and fun gameplay, and good RPG mechanics (Bethesda has proven to be incapable of either) it will rely on having interesting quests and characters.

To me though, the gameplay has to be good or it wont keep my attention. From what I've seen so far though with all those explorable locations it might end up being very repetitive.

Isn’t this the same dude that tried to sell Fallout 76 garbage.
Bethesda is dead for me right now. Heck outer worlds looked and played better than this garbage. The gunplay looks terrible as it is neither RPG nor FPS. It’s just bad precision for anything. AI is dumb as rocks (makes Cyberpunk look smart).

These guys should stick to churning out new Wolfenstein episodes.

My question is, are they nuts? the combat looks like any generic fps game. Its nothing like any rpg ive seen. It doesnt even look like anything from arcane, or the outer worlds or something. It just looks like a straight fps game.
I'm nuts yes. After playing 100+ hours with Fallout 4, the combat looks fine to me. I don't expect BF3 combat and don't really care much if it's just like FO4. I still think skyrim and oblivion combat are fine, for what they do. These are big worlds with lots of player choice and agency, exploration, adventure, progression, modifications, crafting, base building. I often just like steamrolling AI in these games.

Also I don't think the combat in Outer Worlds was anything special either. But it didn't impact my enjoyment too much because I liked the characters/story.

I personally love all the hints of GAMEBYRO because it likely means this game will be easily modded and that's a huge huge plus for me. I make little mods and also like using a few mods.

I'm excited and cautious at the same time. In order to really pull off the whole 1000 planets thing, it's going to need a really good procedural engine. And that sorta thing took No Man's Sky awhile to really dial in.

Sounds okay to me. Don't need space to planet travel myself, that's just not something I'll do after the first few times. I'd like to hear more about the procedural side of things. I imagine that planets will be scattered with a few different types of bases/dungeons/minerals etc.

if a single planet had one tenth of it covered in hand made content, it would automatically be ten times the hand made content of their previous games. I dont think its really something to be hyped about.

Game looks interesting. May pick it up after reading Rage3D reviews and they patch it 2 or 3 times.

Assuming the variety is there, this is gonna be the Star Citizen killer.

why would be a star citizen killer? its an rpg hopefully, so its more in kind with outerworlds and stuff, but also, from what i saw, its just no mans sky with a fallout filter.

It's going to be a Star Citizen killer because Croberts will make a huge list of feature she wants taken from Starfield, extending development time even further so it won't be out this decade.

They are already making bad decisions. The game should never have been dated 17 months from release. To me its obvious why it received the delay. It was to prevent it from being another cyberpunk release. Likewise, just like cyberpunk this is their first try with a space rpg. Could be a recipe for disaster?

I wouldn't draw comparisons with how the Cyberpunk development unfolded. That was a fairly unique case. I don't think it's fair to now start labeling every delay as a being a move to prevent such and such game from being "another Cyberpunk" situation. Delays are nothing new and the reasons for them can vary greatly.

I do agree that they shouldn't have dated it before they were certain, but we all know developers/publishers do it anyway. The practice isn't going to change. All we can hope is they put the extra time to good use so the eventual release is even better. There was talk a while back that Starfield was already content complete, so they're just in the stages of tweaking, optimizing and bug fixing.

Unfortunately I've read several articles indicating the starfield devs fear it becoming the new cyberpunk 2077. Granted it mostly involved the original release date in november prior to the delay.

Excellent showcase, really impressed me. This is almost my dream game I guess, combining the stuff in bethesda games with space exploration.

Interesting they say the planets are procedurally generated when you first arrive there, and the areas of interest are placed to suit. I'm guessing the story ones are more rigidly placed. So could mean better replay value than previous bethesda games if the points of interest are good

Spaceship stuff looks good. Outpost stuff they didn't show heaps about it. I was kinda expecting that the outpost thing would let you grow like colonies and then cities, maybe they will come in the expansion

Hint at the end of superpowers too, I'm guessing you get those from the artifacts.. very impressed anyway

Looked rather impressive. But I'm not sure how well action and RPG elements mix in combat. The combat actually looks like decent FPS. But when you add RPG elements, the concern is enemies just become damage sponges so that the RPG numbers actually mean something.

And, despite the update in graphics, the faces still remind me of old Oblivion faces.

                                                                          Comment

Ok new stuff made it look impressive. Gunplay seems to have improved as well. I just hope planets are not procedurally generated bullcrap and actually have some art design.
I also wish that you can curb stomp idiots in melee. I would be OK for Doom level gameplay when it comes to shooting.

Glad I got GP till 2025 or some such.

At least they didnt claim it as a new engine this time. Also tod said the word!! Detail!

On an actual criticism note: God ****ing damn it, fallout colour grading/piss filters again... So many colour filters in so many of the presentation. I really hope its easy enough to mod out of the game pretty early.
