Against my better judgement I used my gamestop gift card from my ps4 pro trade-in to purchase. On a bright note, they've already figured out how to bypass the drm in offline mode so you can use cheat engine

XBox controller won’t work. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Anyone able to explain how invasions work? I played some Dark Souls, but not a lot and well after the game was popular (and probably offline). Right now I'm literally stuck in an area. There is a cave I want to explore, but I don't have a torch. I can't fast travel from the cave area, but when I exit I'm always invaded by the same jackass. He's at least 10 levels above me with a PvP build and I tried to fight him off a few times, but there's no way. Now I'm just letting him kill me. Anyway, I can't fast travel because I'm invated. Can't get on Torrent because I'm invaded. I can't explore the cave because I don't have a light. I just had to quit.

Also being offline doesn't seem to help. He's still there.

not sure how a live player could invade if you are in offline mode? It completely disables both pvp and the ability to summon help.

Steam discussion page is full of people complaining they are still being invaded in offline. My guess is the setting does nothing.

you could always try entering offline mode in the game, and then disconnect your Ethernet cable? btw, you do need to restart the game to have offline acknowledged (according to steam forums).

Seems a little drastic. I just don't understand why the same dude is there. I mean is he literally sitting in my game and just waiting for me to come back, or is he staking out a geographical area and is seeing lots of other players at the same time? Is there a way for me to banish him?

You also get invaded offline by scripted NPC's which give the same messages as a normal player.

Ah, I wonder if that's what it is then? The game is invading me? Does the game tell you the name of the player invading you if it's a true invasion, or just a psuedonym? This guy's name was like Bloody Finger something, which is either an NPC or they don't show real names.

Sounds like an NPC. The Souls games have "NPC invaders" which look/behave like players but are just AI. Usually if you get far enough from them they will turn around and go back to their area and leave you alone.

                                It really is stunning

I think I fixed my last issue > pressing left stick is crouch, and I tense up during boss fights. Fighting a boss is difficult when crouched Swapping jump and crouch works a charm. I have to play with other swaps too because I’m still screwing up from muscle memory.

I think I should have started with a different class as well. Having a longbow is great, but for ranged it’s much clunkier in certain situations than cast a spell.

Haven’t run into that yet. I did run into another bug though, not game breaking at all, but spirits won’t summon when they should at times. The tombstone is there, plenty of fp…not a huge deal, but there are pretty large, tough gank squads in some areas where the spirits would be really helpful.

Also, beware booby trap alarms set in the bushes around camps. Brilliant touch! But every enemy in the camp will come looking for you.

that's not a bug, no clipping issue, i meant real cracks in the ground They are sometimes really hard to see until it's too late. Also fighting from a horseback is pretty much too op right now, it's kinda ridiculous

                                        What a beautiful game.

Only gripe early on was fumbling between keyboard and controller -- once I gave up on using keyboard/mouse and switched to my xbox controller life got easier. Only a couple hours in but wow its fantastic so far.
RIP Roxen, you will be missed.

Not at all. The only thing you would miss are control / combat familiarity.

Gotcha - I kept waiting to just clip through to my death lol.

I’m still hitting wrong buttons - dismounting while fighting on horseback, healing when I mean to swing…this is driving me crazy.

I'm right there with you on that. Playing Nioh became second nature to us after all those hundreds of hours, but now we pay the price switching back to Souls controls.

I am at least not having trouble fumbling attack vs use item buttons, since I had to swap to secondary control mode in Nioh to use R1 for attack due to all the Souls muscle memory before that. But I am hitting the wrong button to run, and I keep trying to ki pulse after attacks!

Also yes, I too keep crouching and dismounting from Torrent when I don't mean to, because I'm unintentionally hitting the L3 button. Hate that. Maybe I'll try what you did, swap jump and crouch buttons. But then maybe I will start unintentionally jumping. I guess that's better than crouching though.

You should see me jumping around during a boss fight I’m trying to get past one of the main progress route bosses. It’s a great fight, well designed and shouldn’t be difficult, but my fingers won’t cooperate lol.

I even tried just removing the command for the boss fight, but it won’t let me save without a button choice in place. Oh well….I’ll get used to it eventually ….I hope lol.

If I recall, Sekrio had the same crouch button bound to L3 and I don't remember it being a problem for me in that game. Unless I'm just forgetting. But knowing that, I figure I'll get used to it over time.

I really can't fault the game for it. Its just me being too aggressive on the buttons for now. Hopefully in time as I get more comfortable with Elden Ring it wont be a problem anymore.

At least I'm not the only one.

Yeah this is all me and stressing out during combat lol.

Man, I am now so officially hooked on this game….in the space of about 30 minutes I discovered several new areas including secret gates - the playable (combat) areas were WAY above my level, but I just saw some visuals…..I haven’t had a jaw dropping experience like that since Returnal….followed by a whole lot of “I shouldn’t be here, can’t be here!”

And I’ve barely scratched the surface. If I can get as comfortable with the combat in this as I used to be in Dark Souls, this is GOTY material, all the way

One of my concerns with the open world aspect of this game is the issue of enemy level scaling we sometimes see in similar games, for example Bethesda's RPGs. I really hope FS didn't do anything like that here.

While exploring I want to be able to stumble into those high level areas and get curb stomped. But be able to return to them later when I'm stronger and absolutely kick ass. That feeling is always so satisfying when returning to a previously tough area that I can now handle.

But, if the game levels up the enemies as I do, its totally deal breaking for me.

I’m pretty sure the same area leveling is in play here as in previous titles. I’ve been back through a couple of areas already with success that I had trouble with earlier.

The only major inconsistency I’ve seen so far - I killed a certain enemy type and got x runes for it, then killed another a few hundred yards away and got xxx runes….I don’t know if it was a glitch or I activated something without knowing it, but I haven’t been able to repeat it yet….

Inconsistencies and questions like this are going to be plentiful for a while I think.

Because they are so wonderful at explaining their game mechanics (sarcasm) things tend to seem weird for a while until you understand how they work. Unless there's just bugs / glitches.

On the enemy level scaling thing, I really hope you are mistaken on that. I cannot stand games that do it. It legit makes me want to rage quit, because it gets to feeling like improving my character is pointless.

I played for a few hours last night and only noticed one or two instances of a framerate dip, and it was early on when I entered the first big open area. After that though it was pretty smooth to me. So it was likely initial asset loading.

I of course have beefy system specs so it could be system dependent. That said, this game does not appear that it would be too resource demanding. It might need a few optimization patches.
