I have no idea. I just hope it’s not the end of Fromsoft as we know them.

I doubt Sony will do anything but collect money from sales, but tencent can piss right off.
Tencent literally has less history of interfering then sony does. by a lot.

Tencent makes tons of money by copying other’s games, but then sues anyone who copies them.

Fwiw, I’m not a Sony fan either.

I wasnt talking about tencent being a **** company. Just about them interfering in the game devs they buy. I also wasnt saying they dont do it, just that sony is more egregious.

            makes 2 of us.

Their rootkit issue made me dislike them. And now they complain about MS buying AB and COD might not be on PS one day.. yet they do the EXACT same.

Gotcha - not saying you’re wrong btw, you’re not. I think it just comes down to who dislikes what company the most. I just wish so much weren’t tied to who spent how much money buying out who these days. I keep thinking it isn’t going to end well for us, the gamers.

Oh God I remember that rootkit crap.

Man, I just want good games to play, ya know?

I have a PS5 simply because I can enjoy exclusives that Sony either keep platform-only, or pay devs to make platform-only. But, hell, Call of Duty amirite?

Bunch of hypocrites. As long as devs make the games they can and want to, investment is a good thing.
                Hi

                Comment

Believe it or not I am STILL playing and trying to finish this game. It’s been a bit of a slog fest. But, i have not given up. Usually when I spend this long with From Software games I get bored of the repetition. It get tiring to spend 25 deaths trying to memorize the move set of a boss until you get lucky on one attempt when the boss doesn’t spam their deadliest attacks and you beat them. As the game goes on the number of deaths get higher but the process is the same (yawn). I am nearing the end and the bosses are getting to the annoying point. But the one thing that keeps me going is Spirit Ashes and the Shabriri's Woe Talisman. For those who haven’t used this talisman, it makes the boss concentrate their attacks on the wearer. Earlier in the game I was having a heck of a time with the Black Blade Kindred gargoyle. One mistake with him and he punishes your puny vigor like crazy. (I make mistakes!). Luckily I had the mimic ashes. Put the talisman on him, gave him a great shield, and he tanked all attacks to the end and I hit and ran damage for an easy kill. Now whenever a boss gives me trouble I can use a similar approach. But, Malenia is coming soon. For her, the mimic tank is probably a really bad idea as she will just use him as a health replenishing meat sack. So, I had a different idea. This time I wear the talisman and summon either Black Knight Tiche or the strongest ranged summon I got. With me wearing the talisman she will stay away from the free health gains she gets attacking the summons. If I can stay alive long enough we both can pick off enough health to get her. I am sure I can pound through the encounter the traditional way. But, I am really getting bored of that. Anyone else try this kind of shenanigans?

good luck. i actually dont think she is that bad, but its definitely a challenge. hope the tactic works, but i played through her a second time in co-op and it actually wasnt any easier. However i wasnt wearing the talisman (other person was ranged)

Without the talisman, the AI targets anything that causes damage. Feels like being ranged is probably super hard in this fight. You probably got the wrong partner. You needed this guy instead.

Ps. It’s a little late for spoilers. But don’t click this link if you don’t want to see late game boss:

There are much better, and more entertaining than him out there. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good, but snowy and others are much more fun to watch.

Thinking about getting this POS? It is about 35 bucks for the first time on cdkeys. Seems a lot of people enjoyed it and it got GOTY basically everywhere.

Only question I have is if enemies scale with your level or can I roam about and be OP before going for the big boss. I hate enemy scaling.

No enemy scaling. You wont be op for most bosses, however overleveling will help some.

Be warned that Elden Ring is one of those game that can only be appreciated if you have a huge amount of time to dedicate to it.

Bough it on a whim. Down pumping and most likely will discard after first 2 hours.

It’s literally a Souls game in a massive world. Do yourself a favor and look up NizarGG on youtube for his get OP early videos. His builds are pretty much the best and it will save you a lot of grief.

I don’t know KAC - there were a lot of issues on launch with the game, but that’s a new one on me.

At least find your horse before you quit. The open world + horse means you can run away when needed.

Anyways I fixed it and also got to play for about 40 mins. Game is quite limited in what it tells you. Half the time I don't know what to do. You walk out and there is a boss horse running around that maimes you in seconds. So I just by passed it and killed some idiots who were roaming the gardens. I still don't understand anything about inventory, gestures, or basically anything. But somehow I am level 13 now?

After playing God of War, this game feels so basic and stupid. Anyways, will give it the 4 or so hours which is my limit to decide whether I will continue a game or just abandon it.

Btw how do I turn on vsync in this game? It is the first game giving me an error with vsync (i.e., I have unsynced framerate due to my framerate being too high). Bandai Namco, I am surprised how you even make money out of publishing these garbage ports with stupid control schemes and launch issues etc.

                                                  Comment

Each site of grace has a trail coming off of them pointing towards the next one you should go to. That's about as much help as the game gives you. From Software is a bunch of evil bastards that love punishing noobs. If you run into something like that boss on the horse, skip it and come back later when you are leveled much higher. When you picked your starting class, it gives you a baseline level to start with. You level up further turning in runes at a site of grace. Don't forget that this is a souls game and you drop whatever runes you have where you die and need to go back and pick them up. This is much easier in Elden Ring than most souls games once you get your horse! You can get your horse right at the start as long as you follow the trail pointed out to you by the sites of grace. You also won't be able to spend any runes for leveling until you meet Melina at either the second or third site of grace you discover. Every tool you get can be important so don't hesitate to google "What the hell is X in Elden Ring?" frequently.

I will try to get some time in today and see what’s up. I already got Melina and the horse in first 40 mins. Rest I still don’t know wtf is going on.

I watched a get OP fast video. Is the expectation that I will remember all the crap or that I need video on my phone before I venture on? The game literally tells you nothing. Also most Reddit posters act as if everyone knows this thing. Like how to put the red light on your sword before attacking? I don’t even know the controls bud wtf?

This is just retarded. I thought this game was nub friendly but with my limited experience this is worse. There is so much text thrown in but basic controls are not clear. And then I already have horse riders walking around 1 hit me and then I went to the right and there is a frickin’ dragon? Wtf?

I did clear a pack of wolves without dying which was great but then I went to lost grace and they are back. I can’t believe people call this fun. I cleared an area. It’s an open world game with thousands of areas. Let it go dammit!

Anyways still only 1 hour in. 3 more before I shelve it.

                                                        Comment

The only OP you get is from mastering the combat. The game is designed for clearing an area of all enemies and secrets and then moving forward to the next area. Eventually you run into a boss to clear before you can advance. It’s easy to run past most enemies on your horse if you don’t want to deal with them again. You can also use an area for farming runes and combat training. So sometimes it’s a good idea to repeat areas to be sure you found everything and are leveling up. Just spend your runes wisely. You will not be able to level up all skills so you need to focus only on the skills that help your playing style. Later in the game you get a chance to re-spec as its hard for noobs to create a build right first time. I’d prioritize vitality early as it will make you survive longer. Later, when you find a cool weapon you like you can add more specialized skills around it.

Enemies that destroy you first time are not as hard as they seem. If you calm down and watch what they do they tend to repeat a limited number of attacks. And they telegraph when the attacks are coming. Learning these patterns and how to counter them will allow you to beat one of those seemingly impossible bosses. For example that dragon that dropped in on you was very intimidating. His fire attacks can burn your health bar in seconds. But there is a pattern to how he attacks with fire. One you can dodge roll left or right when you see it coming. Another he sprays the whole field with a left to right fire stream. Can’t easily dodge that one. But if you jump on your horse and run left to right you can out run it and suffer no damage. Plus if you angle at the dragon while you run on your horse you can jump off the horse and score big damage on his exposed head at the end of the attack. This is the entire game in a nutshell. It’s never a whack them harder than they wack you battle. You lose ALL of those.

If you are playing on PC I am not sure if mouse+KB is the best way to go. I always prefer a controller for 3rd person games like this. But, I have never used a keyboard and mouse on this game. You’ll have to check with others on how that works. I did my whole play through on PS5.

Also, you dont really need screens of text telling you what to do kac. the game tells you more or less where to go, just explore, find the graces, listen to the things npcs tell you. There is a lot of direction in the game, there just isnt a giant map marker saying go here.

Because this is a Souls game and they have been playing Souls games for a decade. Is this your first Souls game? If so I can see how it will be intimidating.

As shadowcult mentioned above, you most likely missed the tutorial, which explains the basics of combat. Go back to the starting cave and drop down into the hole. The game is worth it, but maybe you'd like a more linear experience ? Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3, Demons Souls (PS5) and Bloodborne (PS4) all provide a more linear experience and are excellent games. (skip Dark Souls 2 and Sekiro)

After playing those if you come back to Elden Ring you'll feel right at home. (Though not necessary as many first timers to Souls/ER completed it just fine.)

Can someone tell me how to enable vsync in this game? I desperately need it as screen tearing is killing me. No other game has had this issue for years. I never have vsync on even when games are over 300 fps.

Anyways, next post will be after spending 4 hours. Need to give it the time it needs. Most likely it’s not for me. I have a job and am not unemployed so don’t need another job. I pass time to enjoy games not suffer them. Lesson learnt that I should just not buy these types ever again. I skipped all the Seikro, Nioh, Dark souls crap. Fell for Elden Ring due to such high praise. Not for me.

                                                                Comment

KAC, I too was an Elden Ring noob. A friend gifted me the game, so I felt obliged to play it, and my friend's support practically forced me to finish it.

                                                                  I did not have fun.

Souls games are an excruciating challenge, and if you do not enjoy overcoming those, you will not have fun. The game does not get easier. The only way forward is to get better. This is not a game that explains things. Not a game that holds hands. Not a game that gives notifications. You either read the wiki's, watch the video's, accept the hints and tips from others... Or suffer endlessly like the undead you are. Souls games are special in that they're essentially asynchronous co-op games. You do not play these games alone - you must rally the community, learn from who came before, and take their lessons to heart.

                                                                  Rinse, repeat, improve, git gud.

The reward is miniscule: you'll have become gud at Elden Ring. You'll have beaten the simpleton skeletons, the gigantic beasts and the ruling lords. You'll have suffered defeat, death and embarrassment from your own weaknesses, but you'll have proven that you are more stubborn than this game.

If you're stubborn enough and willing to accept that it's not a single player "cinematic experience" like Sony's user-friendly interactive movie blockbusters, you might stand a chance. If not, uninstall, and live a happy life. Your call.
                                                                  May the Yods be silent

This game is more forgiving than many of the other games. But still hard. The sites of grace are much more plentiful and closer together than most souls game. The horse is the easy mode to get back to your runes when you die. Plus they added spirit ashes you can summon to help you in sticky situations. Did you get your wolves yet? That’s the first one you can get. Throughout the game you get a ton more options. Some of them really kick ass and are helpful.

I found this wiki to be very helpful: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Elden+Ring+Wiki

Research more before you punt. Everyone has the exact same feelings when they play their first souls game. It just takes a little success to get you hooked. From Software does all they can to make you want to quit throughout the entire game. So it does take some perseverance. But, I found Elden Ring to be a game that you can put down for a while and play again later. I put 200 hours in over many months and got very far into the game and discovered tons of new stuff. Still not convinced I will ever finished it. Took a break and may come back later when I get the itch. I probably have only 10 to 20 hours left.

Take some comfort in the fact you are not alone:

                                                                      Comment

you do not need any info from outside the game. The npcs tell you where to go. The lights at the graces lead you in directions to try. The game isnt hard. The whole get gud **** is stupid. Just dont run into large groups of enemies. It is a little slow at the start, but you definitely become strong and can take out most of the game with ease as you simply play. Its just a slow game.
Never put off tomorrow what you can put off today!

                                                                        Comment

Thanks guys. Will see what’s up. I really don’t have time for this tbh. I know if I try I can beat these games but the payoff is so little that it never peaked my interest. Btw I already saw the end boss fight. It was pathetic and if that is what all the work was for, then meh!

                                                                          Comment

Played some more. Uninstalled. Enough said.

                                                                            Comment

I have yet to beat a souls game so this is an ... interesting experience. The horse does help in many ways to get runes back and bypass mobs. I sometimes just ride off and try to find the grace spots so I can use them later. Summon can be handy but generally they die quick to tough bosses, just useful as distractions.

So far I'm still progressing but still die quite a lot. I just killed Rennala Moon Queen and her second phase was a massive PITA. What annoyed me is that the site of grace for her is a way back from her battle and so you just have to run back to her mist door again. And you have to do phase 1 again, even though it's cake once you learn the basics. I find that crap just petty time wasting. Most bosses have sites near them though thankfully.

The game is poor at explaining just about everything, although some of that is probably due to my inexperience in the sub-genre. Also the story (what story?) is terrible so far, after 25 hrs play.

pros: amazing vistas, good exploration, slowwww but generally rewarding progression, castle/dungeons are decent, satisfying to beat some tough foes.

                                                                              Comment

FYI - some of the summons upgraded will kill bosses for you. Useful as distractions at the start yes, but some are tanky as heck upgraded and it’s kind of hilarious watching them wreck bosses for you.

Also, this is one of those games where going to google to find a summarized progress route can be really helpful.

                                                                                Comment

Early summons I liked using was the Godrick Soldiers. Get them to +3 or + 4 and they survive pretty long and are great distractions for bosses. Later in the game you get much better summons. But you’ll need a lot of FP to summon. Shouldn’t be a problem if playing a mage. But if you are focusing on other skills you can find a flask tear that gives you a free summons.
