I decided to give greatswords a chance after the last patch. I’m doing surprisingly well with the God Slayer Greatsword Love the damage output.

We all know that elden rings is wrong, they are ultra great swords.

I wish they had tweaked powerstancing UGS too, jump attacks are still the way to go with them, which is fine, but it gets a bit boring.

Watch any videos on yt and it seems 90% of all attacks are jump attacks. I’m already missing fast attacks.

There’s a curved sword the undead use that’s supposedly as good as a katana, does good bleed damage too, But it has to be farmed I think. I might give those a try.

Still searching for the all around great weapons that I’ll be 100% happy with for the entire playthrough. That might not happen…

Saw this today. Apparently with the new 1.04 patch there's a bug with Malenia if you summon for the fight.

There’s an issue with the game, however, that makes her even tougher — a bug means that when players summon an ally to help against her, she can self-heal without actively making contact with a player.

That HP steal mechanic has gone too far now. I say FS should just remove it entirely.

And on the topic of big swords, the ash of war from the claymore is very effective when combined with the greatsword.

It's fast, deals decent damage, and can poise through everything.


A jump attack still deals more damage though, but you can be interrupted when doing that.

Will do. The godskin apostle (fatty in Volcano manor) went down easily. I’ll post more about others later.

And yeah that “Let me Solo Her” is just…..how much time does that guy sink into practicing?! LoL, he’s excellent at it, no doubt.

Revisiting this: Handled Godfrey and Morgot no problem. Solid damage output and damage negation and a decent ash of war on the God Slayer colossal sword, but…if not completely used to it like me, it’s too easy to leave yourself vulnerable against a faster enemy. And the moveset is just boring. I imagine that could change with power stancing a couple of UGSs or using Lions Claw ash of war, but I think I’m preferring lighter faster weapons at this point.

No major complaints though. Just smaller and faster with bleed or frost is more fun, and somehow more satisfying.

Edit: I can only imagine Malenia would be a holy terror for me using an UGS lol.

From what I've seen watching videos of it, the Godslayer's Greatsword looks like one of the quicker colossal swords. It doesn't seem as slow in comparison to a lot of the other greatswords. But yeah, still will be tough to use against faster bosses. You need to have your poise super high to hyper armor your attacks through almost anything the enemy throws at you. Otherwise its useless. At least IMO for my playstyle.

So with that said, I still think STR builds are pretty much bottom of the barrel in Elden Ring.

Hmmm…I passed on that before for the exact reasons he said - I got tired of getting punished by fast enemies.

I think….I’m going to pull that back out of the chest and dust it off…

I was just thinking the same. Though I doubt I’ll do all that potions on buffs on consumables that he’s doing. I don’t usually go in for more “prep” than just a handful of buffs like maybe Flame, Give Me Strength or something like that.

It is amazing watching that red bar disappear like that though.

I just respecced for it and upgraded it to +8. With golden vow and flame grant me strength the ash of war is decent so far, but I’m only level 96 on this build. I think once I gather a few million more runes it’ll be more impressive. There’s no point in doing it with my other build because all the bosses in that one are dead.

I can verify the potential though. As of now though, fast enemies with high poise are still going to be tough, like the frost zombies or whatever they are at Zamor ruins.

Edit: Maybe I will upgrade it and spec it out for a NG+ on the other build. I’ll start off with 211 points to play with and if it’s that good, I can clear the main game fairly quickly.

Not really. That video for whatever reason makes the range look longer than it is. After using it for a bit in the mountain tops I can already tell it’ll be easy to get into trouble using it, if the player (me) isn’t really careful with timing.

Yup, I have all talismans on my other build, not this one yet. I think I’ll make a save file, then respec for it and take it into NG+, see how it fares. Should be fun

Edit: Suspicions were correct. I just watched a level 200 player take out Radagon with it, but that endlessly poised attack spamming idjit gave him a bit of a hard time with it.

Knocked out Sainted Hero's Grave (no chariots, doh) as well as Azuria Hero's Tomb (chariots). Ironically on the latter, I did the boss fight first, then the other stuff, which would have eliminated the final chariot problem (I just used good timing to bypass it.)

Regarding talismans, I had Millicent’s prosthesis….and now I don’t. It’s not showing in my inventory any more Quitting and reloading isn’t fixing it. I haven’t seen any other complaints about items disappearing other than smithing stones. Blah.

No native ultrawidescreen support. There's mods to enable it I believe, but you will have to play offline since needs to disable the anti-cheat.

As for stuttering, it doesn't really matter how good or bad your GPU is. It just has more to do with how the game handles shader caching. Good news is the more you play and the more assets get loaded, the less stuttering you'll experience.

Overall though the stuttering shouldn't be too much of a deal breaker. It happens occasionally when entering a new area, and usually just a micro-stutter. But, sometimes the whole game can freeze for a good 2-3 seconds, which did happen to me a few times. But over a 100+ hour playthrough. Bottom line none of the technical issues should prevent you from enjoying the game. Nowhere near as bad as Cyberpunk for example.

So ive been paying attention to the stuttering way harder than i should and i dont actually think its the shader cache like everyone says it is. I think its something to do with the networking.

When ever im in an area where i get invaded a lot, or i where the blue band to ge summoned as a hunter, the game stutters far more. If i play solo and dont connect i get no stutter at all.

For about 30 seconds before i get invaded, the game starts stuttering substantionally in other not so traffic heavy areas too.

Could be a placebo, but its pretty repeatable.

I tried Comet azur several rounds from a safe place and as far as I can tell didn't scratch it at all. Maybe only physical damage? Certainly can't stand in the way gandalf-like.

As a melee user, this fight is just a bunch of dodging then sprinting across the goddamned map to hit him a couple times after rolling through giant waves of gold only to have him disappear and have to chase him again.

It's not a hard encounter, it's just tedious chasing him across the arena over and over again.

He’s a giant pain in the ass I don’t know what he’s like after the nerf, but all I could think of was a bullet hell boss. More dodging and running than anything else and that gigantic health pool to whittle away at.

I have been wearing chest and legs for a while. Used to wear more before my gear changed.. Heavier weapon and sellen's mask for sorcery purposes.

I look ridiculous.

Somewhat less ridiculous now that my Int is high enough that I can afford to swap to a heavier helm for resistances.
