Took out the Fire Giant and the Dragon of crumbing farrun on the second attempt each. Neither one was pretty, but I got across the finish line.
That dragon is not too bad but Fire Giant on the second attempt is pretty impressive.
Took me a few more than that. Second phase was giving me trouble, until I decided to just peck at his back foot while on horseback for the entire fight. Falls into the trash boss fight category IMO.

I just comet azure'd his hands while he was attacking Tiche. He moved around a lot, hence the not pretty part. Took several potions because he kept leaning, etc. Of course, having more problems with the death-spewing folk now. Not getting a good sustain for damage magically and die close up. Might need to change my potion allocation here.

Ahh, I actually didn't find comet azur until after i beat the final boss. I just never explored that area around Volcano Manor for some reason.
Its an awesome sorcery but only really useful for big/slow enemies. Hit or miss for quicker enemies that can dodge it.
Sounds like you are getting close to the end of the game now.

Damn. That's impressive. Fire Giant was easily over a dozen plus attempts for me. Still haven't fought that dragon under Farum Azula yet. He's on my To Do list for tomorrow though. Him and maybe Radagon. Can I beat him without beating the Elden Beast for his remembrance/sword?

Nope, unfortunately you have to beat both. If you beat Radagon and die to Elden Beast you have to fight Radagon again and kill both for the remembrance.
Also just want to mention, you probably already know but Elden Beast is a garbage boss fight that will annoy you to no end. Plan to set aside a GOOD amount of time for that.

I was surprised at how light on his feet the giant was for a big guy lol. Nice job.
Those death pukers are almost as annoying as the iron virgin things.

I think what annoyed me the most about that whole battle
was that I had holy damage negation close to maxed out
and it didn’t seem to make a difference. Like, what’s the point?
Still haven't fought that dragon under Farum Azula yet. He's on my To Do list for tomorrow though.
Under? The dragon I did was at the top. So, guess i've got another dragon fight ahead of me.

Is there anything past the lowest (I think) rooftop where you get the dragonshield crest? I couldn't figure out how to get any further down if so.
and I died a few times getting down.. eventually figured out they wanted us to hop from side to side on tiny ledges for the last bit.

On horseback, challenging but relatively safe. In melee, like you need to do at the end, it's ugly.

I've decided to back off and do some other things I've avoided... most of the Hero's Graves (damned chariots!) some more stuff under Leyndall (think I got most of it, but still a few pathways left unexplored), then the descent from the top of the Haligtree.
Edit: Naw.. I'm skipping the Hero's Graves. I just don't like them.

On the bestial sanctum, there’s also a sword at the bottom. I haven’t researched it, so I don’t know if it’s worth the trouble.
On Crumbling Faraam, that first dragon is just the intro to the area
Oh, do you know the details of what they changed? I didn't notice anything in the patch notes.
He's a lot less mobile (stays in the same spot for much longer), doesn't use his AoE abilities as often, doesn't do his projectile abilities as often and he sticks to simple melee attacks mostly.
It's possible to kill him now without seeing him do any ability at all.

The chariots can be killed, and they dont respawn. The graves are actually pretty easy, and the tough bosses are pretty easy coming back with some upgrades.
Never put off tomorrow what you can put off today!

Yeah, there's a dragon deep down underneath Farum Azula, I haven't killed him yet either. He's on my To Do list.
The first half of Haligtree on the branches was just an absolute nightmare until a friend mentioned that I should try
using gravity magic. It just YOINKS them off their branches. Which made that part now fun as ****. And once you get past Loretta those knights are all extremely farmable and easy.
As mentioned, the Hero Graves SUCK but there's a way to take out the chariots in most of those. Which is ****ing rewarding to do.

Well damn. Was hoping to just go in for Radagon's boss soul, grab his sword and go see what that does.

Thanks. But wow, that sounds like quite a nerf. I would have been happy with just less mobility as that was the main thing that annoyed me with that fight.
Shrike, sounds like Elden Beast might now be Elden Bitch.

This is great, now I can look down on all of you casuls that did not finish Elden Ring before the boss nerfs were implemented.
Git gud scrubs
It kind of feels like they are slowly making the game less frustrating for those who does not want to rely on spirit summons with each patch, apparently they also tuned the aggressiveness of the AI in most boss fights featuring more than one enemy in this patch too.

Seriously though that is actually one of the easiest bosses in the game. But, its a gimmick boss so if you don't do it correctly then yeah I can imagine how it can be a nightmare.

I was thinking before back when Lazy8s posted that vid about unbalanced boss fights that this game really made it tough to solo bosses. Sure, some are easy and have fine mechanics but some are just a complete **** show without using a spirit summon to aggro the boss and divide its attention.
Spirit summons are such a cool feature but I think FS shot themselves in the foot and tainted their impeccable boss design by trying to make them more aggressive to compensate for spirit ashes. I think that video said it best about them wanting to have their cake and eat it too, regarding balancing. It just does not work and is especially clear when you fight bosses solo.
I'm not FS and don't claim to be an expert game designer but it would seem something like tuning bosses to behave differently depending on if there's summons present in the fight, or if the player is solo is needed. I think that would have taken a lot more work though.

I’d like to think that, in part, this is a huge learning project for Fromsoft as they move towards their next release. Like you, I don’t know what it would take to balance out this game so it’s a bit more in line with what I considered decent balance in the other titles, but I can only imagine it would be a huge undertaking.
A big nod to that happening though, is the sped up heavy weapons animations from the last patch. Little touches like that can make a world of difference, and it shows that they are aware their combat systems might be just a touch dated.
Yeah, have to say I can't remember them making this many gameplay tweaks before.
I think its a good thing, they are trying to fine tune and make a more fair and enjoyable game. I still think a major overhaul its what is needed though. Hopefully for their next release.

Well, this is also their biggest game ever, and it's drawing in people that aren't traditional FromSoft fans... people that are finding the game harder than they'd expected and growing frustrated.
If FromSoft expects those people to buy DLC and come back to the table next time, they need to convince those people that they're having a good time.
The FromSoft fan masochists don't need that convincing.
I think the biggest thing they could do is add a difficulty slider from Masochist down to Filthy Casual so that everyone can find a level of challenge that they enjoy. In the short term it may be nothing more than tweaking HP/Damage. In the long term could change behaviors somewhat, to make things play more aggressively, more defensively, how often bosses fire off spells, etc.

That's a really good point. Because of the success of Elden Ring this will be a test to see what From Soft values more - retaining their longtime hardcore fanbase or higher sales numbers. I think the latter will probably win out, because money rules all. So if that's the case they will have to work harder to strike a good balance of their trademark challenge, and fairness and enjoyment for casuals.
Man, I almost want to respec to dump points into DEX and ARC to try soloing her using Rivers of Blood. With the damage some players were doing I feel like I might be able to do it.
Well, I did it. No, didn't solo her but I did respec to use Rivers of Blood and a bit into ARC stat so I could also use Dragon Ice incantation. I was just really curious of how better that build would be at taking her down. Yes, fast blood and frost procs are the way to go. RL141, not too shabby.
Here's a pic of me fresh off latest Malenia kill:
I tried soloing her a few times. The first phase was totally doable, but quickly realizing I needed a distraction for that damn second phase. So I used Tiche. Worked well enough, took 4 tries in all. I had to get use to using Corpse Piler efficiently. Man, what a beastly weapon art. I think I'm in love.
I keep getting first phase of Malenia down to maybe somewhere around 10-20% before getting greedy and caught out by Waterfowl Dance. **** that thing hurts.
Edit: Got into phase 2 a few times. LOL This is much worse.

That's the reason i swallowed my pride and used a greatshield. Not sure if you're already using one but it really helps against that move.
The first couple times I panic rolled and died. But the couple times I got to Phase 2 I was patient and blocked all the way through. I do generally always play with a great shield so I just needed to trust it more.
But was I imagining things or was she healing herself off of hits on my shield?

Yep she heals on ANY contact hit, even if you block. Kinda cheap honestly.

Well that seems a little ****ed.
I might go fight a dragon and come back to her later.

It?s really cheap. That fight didn?t need that addition, she?s nasty enough without it.
Yep. I think i said that before too. They absolutely could have done without the HP steal.
Its a shame, because they were obviously trying to create the ultimate boss challenge. Almost everything about it is great, i just really think they got lazy with the HP steal on every hit idea. It just adds unfun frustration.
I don't know maybe they wanted to encourage players to be perfect or something. You damn sure need to be near perfect to beat her.

Maybe part of the problem was developing the ‘ultimate boss’ that would level the playing field across all the various builds they knew players would put together…I don’t know.
I’m going to fight her again at the end of this playthrough, but I’m going for a weapons only win, no shield, just a buff or 2 and my flasks lol. I’ll probably never do it, or I might. I’ve been largely successful with everything else no shield this run.
