That reminds me, I think one of my negatives with this game is how it deals with heights and gravity kills. I don't know, I think it may need to be tweaked. There are some areas where a drop will look doable but kill you, then some areas that look super high but are fine to fall to. Its super inconsistent, which is my main gripe. It has me really questioning jumping from ledges a lot.

On a positive note though, I do really like the way this game handles finding hard to reach areas on the map. It almost has a Metroidvania style approach to exploration, takes a bit of thinking to find the way. Its amazing how much adding verticality and layers to a world adds depth.

As for my progress I am just about down with Altus Plateau. Just need to do The Shaded Castle then I will move on. Need to continue Ranni's quest next.

Saw this one on Reddit. About sums it up.

I read there's things where you can drop the rainbow stones or something and if you hear them crack it's too far, but that's a seriously roundabout way to figure out if a fall is too far.

Haha yeah that does sum it up.

Rainbow stones are this game's prism stones right? Good call I will keep that in mind for next time and try it out.

I'm disappointed in From, I killed the lord of blood version of Mogh before I went to the sewer area, so why is the omen version not dead?

          0/10, worst game ever.

There's an Elden Ring thread now in Discord if anyone's interested.

Figured we could use that for any multiplayer invites.

Cool, but I am hardly checking the discord, and I like to play solo anyways.

                  It is done.

                  I am finally free!

Hot damn, I can finally play something else for a bit now.

Looks like YellowBeard finished the game and checked the hell out. Must be burned out on the game.

Earlier i completed the shaded castle.

I actually really like storming those outdoor isolated castle and fort areas. Most of them have pretty interesting level design.

So i thought i had Altus Plateau done but i did find another section i apparently didn't check, which has a church, a boss, and an underground dungeon. I think i might stop trying to explore everywhere in each region. It's just taking too damn long and i don't have that kind of gaming time. Definitely enjoying it still though.

                        Yeah he checked out lol.

Regarding getting the game ‘done’ I’m done with that lol. I’m still playing with builds and weapons, started another character just because and am just having fun and leveling and trying different things. The latest is a pure melee / bow build, no sorceries / incantations etc.

What’s really telling, to your point, is that after all these hours I’m still finding things I missed before. I never knew there was a big boss encounter practically right next to Stormveil shack. Stumbled on it while I was having all the trolls kill each other for me.

Still having a good time with it though…

That shack with the boss encounter, is that where you first meet Roderika? I never saw a boss there so I'll have to investigate at different times of day. But I did find a boss nearby at the Warmaster's Shack. If you go there at night, instead of the knight that sells ashes of war there's a nasty Bell Bearing Hunter. He is pretty tough too if you face him low level like I did.

But yeah, I decided yesterday I'm really going to try not to veer off the path too much from now on. Sure, if I see some interesting things along the way like a legacy dungeon or church I will grab it, but no more am I going to pain-stakingly try to cover all ground in each area. I'd rather just focus on the main parts of the game and finish it, then come back later to explore. That way I can play other games, and just fire up Elden Ring when I'm in the mood. As opposed to now where I feel the urgency to play only this game.

Next step for me is I need to figure out where the meteorite struck after the Radahn fight. Pretty obvious it open a new area or something. So I will try to do that next. I have a lot going on this weekend too so I probably wont get much time to play.

Yep where you meet Roderika. Go ENE from the shack at night to where the group of trolls are.

Yeah the exploration can wear you down. I can’t believe how much content they packed into this, but even just sticking to the main path you’re going to get a good deal of play time. Speaking of time, click if you want the meteorite location, to save time lol. Mistwood near where you first meet Blaidd. Look for the debris floating in the air above the crater.

That opens some pretty cool encounters.

Now that I think of it I do remember running into that boss once while farming runes off those giants. Its like a big skeleton bird right? I need to go back and get that thing at some point because at the time I didn't want to fight it. Could probably squash it easily now.

As for that meteorite crater location, I think I have a good idea where but if not I will read your spoiler.

Damn, this Scale armor from the first assasination of Volcano Manor is nice. Heavy as hell, but good protection and poise. Can only wear the breastplate right now, but that'll change eventually.

Well, I'm at like 170 right now, but when I beat the last boss I was 167.

Main armaments were an Erdseal +10, Grave Scythe +25, Carian Shield, Erdtree Bow +9, Thorn Whip +25, and a Petal Whip +25. Whips used the most near the end there. Switched to the Scythe for Beast as it hits harder than whips, and the procs from the whips don't proc on him. Probably immune to status, so pure damage was more preferable.

Usually ran around with Zamor armor with the White Mask head for the increased dmg if someone bleeds near me.

Talismans were rotated frequently. But Dragoncrest Greatshield, Erdtree +2, Rotten Wing Sword, Lord of Blood's Exultation, I'd rotate in Great Jar if I needed to put on some Tree Crucible armor if I needed better dmg reduction.

Faith was overkill for me. I wanted it to be something, but was using it more as a utility than anything else due to it's lackluster damage at the end there. Mainly used a lot of the Blood incants for bleed buildup. And with primarily Cold on my weapons near the end, it really didn't do anything for weapon scaling either. Frostbite proc was better than the extra faith scaling I had for either a Holy or Fire Art weapon affinity.

I've got Sword of N&F on standby in my inventory. Later on in my playthrough when I don't know what to level up I may throw points into FTH, or just respec to use it.

When I heard they nerfed it I kind of figured it was a lost cause but if its still good maybe its back on the menu.

I actually have been going with dual katanas lately. Meteoric in my left hand and Uchigatana in my right so I can use skills. Its been fun but I found dual swords to be slower than expected (too used to Nioh), and I really do prefer using a shield in Souls games.

Eh, at least I have options. But shield + single katana is my priority. I should have chosen samurai from the start lol.

I’ve been wanting to do more of a pure min / max build, so I started another using the Samurai. It was the first class I ever chose starting the game and I didn’t care for it then, but that’s because it didn’t allow me to run straight to the final boss at the start

My newest build started as Samurai, is currently level 25 and the only gear I changed was getting a heater shield. Loving it so far. The longbow at the start is much better for ranged damage than sorceries. I’ll wind up dumping some into INT / FTH / ARC for protective and damage buffs later, but I want to see how I fare without any of that for the moment.

The final boss in the crumbling azula was trash tier, he was not that hard, but a boss that mobile does not belong in a game where you are so slow.

The end game in elden ring is horrible, basically zero bosses that are enjoyable to fight, at least when it comes to melee builds.

**** bosses that teleports/flies away from you thus forcing you to run like an idiot just in order to get some hits before they flies away again forcing you to repeat the process.

I decided to do my mid-game respec I had been contemplating. That Fextralife video about the sword of n&f still being great really helped me make up my mind.

It was kind of tough to respec because I needed to reallocate points to go from 11 FTH to 24. I ended up losing points in DEX, which is easy because its not really needed for this build and I should never have leveled it past the required for my sword. But then also went from 45 to 40 Vigor, dropped a few points of INT, and dropped just enough in END to still use my armor without fat rolling. But after upgrading the sword of n&f to +7 it beats the meteoric ore blade +7 by like 45 damage. Also the weapon art is just awesome, as you guys probably know. I just need to readjust back to a straight sword moveset after using a katana. I am already missing that overhead charged slash, but I think I'll get over it. I left enough points in DEX to still use it if I want to.

On another note, with the 24 FTH I can also now use incantations which is cool. Flame of frenzy is a super cool and useful nuke spell.

You’re going towards almost the exact build I beat the game with. It’s solid for sure.

And if you get to Mohgwyn’s Palace you’re going to be swimming in runes to fill any gaps in.

I’m still mostly melee with my new Samurai build and it’s hitting diminishing returns, so I need to try something different. I’m thinking maybe trying a spear tank. Being able to hit while guarding….there’s a place for that in this game.

One thing I have to mention is that while running a pure melee build, it’s easier to see how the Souls combat formula built into this engine hasn’t aged well in spots. Faster, stronger enemies with longer attack chains and massive AOEs can wear down a melee build pretty quickly.

You could hardly tell what was going on sometimes.

That jumping/teleporting/flying is what’s getting under my skin with this. Melee is great until the enemy can fly and/or takes up half the screen. Just the past day I’ve died to the camera more often than not. And the dragons are so cool, but by the time I chase them to the other end of the map they’re back in the air spewing destruction down on me. Not fun that way.

I’d recommend following a guide to do it though. The game is massive and early on without maps it’s easy to miss quite a bit.

Some of the enemies and areas you’ll have to go through, just consider them suicide runs to get gear, but once you’re up and running you’ll wreck most of the early game.

While trying to press on to find another Grace or open a shortcut back to the one I was at, I ran into a Ogre fight that didn't go well.

Hopefully I can remember the correct twists and turns and not drop into a hole with a missed jump.

Yeah Nioh's summoner's candle would come in handy for you right now.

I don't think Elden Ring has anything like that. Only thing I can think of is there's a mixed physick tear that will prevent rune loss on death. But of course you have to time using it correctly. Also of course the Sacrificial Twig talismans. But nothing that will help you if you already died.

Those Lyndell sewers are tricky. I spent some time down there and opened one shortcut but still got stuck and didn't figure out how to progress so I left.

I've been underwhelmed by the dragon breaths. I probably don't have enough Mind to really capitalize. The delay really opens you up and really just not worth it for a short burst.

Note to new players... make sure you equip your magic tool in your main hand, not offhand, so that you can use spells on a Horse when appropriate. Offhand gets disabled (holding the reins?)
The dragon breaths are one of the most powerful classes of incantations in the game, but the timing leaves a lot to be desired. Half a cast with weaker enemies is good though. You just want that damage over time that you can stack with another proc. Works wonders if you can get the opening.
