I ran through much of it my first play through, and I’m going to do the same this one. The entire area is designed to simply make the player punch their monitor out.

Anyway, between exploration and wonky bosses the rest of the game is a solid 8/10 if I’m being unbiased.

This area….3/10, and that 3 is only for the art direction and a couple of the items. This level of frustration is just needless in any game, much less a game like this.
Yeah when I went to Caelid I remembered I never finished the Sellia Crystal Tunnel that I got transported to way back in the start of the game. Wanted to do some sweet revenge on those nasty pest bug guys. Then I went over to that Town of Sorcery since it was nearby, thinking I could pick up some nice casting items. Few things but not much. Got a better spelldrake talisman, an invisible projectile spell (looks like meant for PvP), and from defeating the boss there got a really good staff (Lusat's) that I can't use yet. If its a slow day at work maybe I'll try to tackle Radahn little later.

As for regular enemies that can one-shot you. Bad enough when its a boss, but just sucks when regular scrub enemies can do it. I can see if when doing a low level playthrough, but when leveling up vigor normally and in areas of the game you should be in its just not acceptable. That is the kind of thing that WILL get me to rage at the game. F that place, I'll just save it for when I'm at like level 200.

Any of y'all messed around with the ultra greatswords in elden ring?

Do they even pack enough of a punch to be viable in this game full of fast/teleporting enemies?

It's not like you can stand and trade in elden ring as you feel like an SL1 character even though you are using heavy-ish armor and with plenty of vigor, feel like it would be a very frustrating experience.

I've decided I will get this game eventually. However, I'm not paying $60 for it so I'll wait until it drops to 40ish or less. Might be a year off, but I'm ok with that.

I just beat Redahn. You are probably going to laugh, but it took one attempt.

Don't know if its the nerf, my high level (91), or something else. But it was not hard at all. Honestly I hardly even did anything. Just ran around (on horseback) summoning and taking pot shots at him from afar with Loretta's Greatbow which did decent damage. I think I swung my sword at him grand total of 3 times.

So yeah, the trick for me (at least after the nerf) was just to let the summons do most of the work and just stay far the hell away from him. Kind of get the feeling that was the intention, because for the few times I tried to get in close on foot he just was not having it.

That tactic worked pre-nerf too, as long as you stick to the intended method, you can beat him even at low levels without much trouble.

Makes sense when you just look at the size of the boss arena. Huge! Pretty obvious they want you to keep a wide berth. I really only felt threatened when he would shoot the meteorites at me which did come close to killing me once. I got grazed though, not a direct hit so it only did about half my HP.

                Figures lol. Good job Meteor.

I went back in for a couple and I’m ready to uninstall at this point. I went through here with a similar build first time, and it was rough, but now it just doesn’t feel worth it. This is just Piss. Poor. Design.

Makes me not even want to fire the game up again.

                  Still that same area? Haligtree

Anywhere else you can go instead, or is that the only path for you right now? Will just echo the same advice I usually give when things turns from fun to ****. Take a break and walk away. You have put nearly 200 hours into this game in less than a month. Maybe play something else to cleanse the gaming palette.

It's an optional area, it's a shame that they had to ruin what is a pretty neat looking zone with a bunch of garbage encounters and the worst boss fight in souls history.

Definitely putting that area on my list to nuke then.

[EDIT] Just looked up what items are in that area. I see Loretta's Mastery

Do want that, so I will be going there for sure. It will be a little while before I have the 46 INT to use it though.

Yeah the plan at the moment is to just clean stuff up elsewhere and level up some more. There’s actually still quite a bit I can do elsewhere.

To me that's the beauty of this game. Lots of different ways to go and things to do if you get stuck.

Yeah those suck. I still haven't finished that one from the very start of the game.

It'd be cool if pillars were actually solid objects for bosses. I'm getting real tired of being behind a pillar and being nuked with a large range AoE that should be blocked by terrain. If it blocks my attacks and I can lose target lock through it, it should be a solid object for attacks for BOTH sides.

And while I had that typed up and hadn't hit post, I finally got the bastard. It was mutually assured destruction. His huge AoE procced just after I got the last hit, and it took out me and my tear. Good times, I was a little heartbroken thinking this might not work like the other times I've had mutual deaths with bosses until the trophy and the remembrance popped. That was a relief.

To be perfectly honest there’s a lot that would be great improvements. Just my opinion.

The Black Blade His big AoE slash thing hurts. He dead now though.

Got to Gideon afterwards and . It was one of those "Don't do it man. Just walk away." kind of fights. He shoulda walked away. If he was All Knowing he shoulda seen his ass kicking coming from a mile away. Now to just make sure I got what I need in the area before continuing up the path.

I liked that Malekith fight. I had an awful time at first until I actually found out his weakness.

I had to look up the 2nd one you mentioned. He left that much of an impression

I’m just traveling around cleaning up dragons at the moment. I think it’s odd that I can use my spirit summons against some of the individual dragons, but when there are 3 within 100’ of each other, I can’t lol.

Yeah, I had some item in my inventory that would allow me to parry him, but at trying to figure out the timings of that one. Ain't no one got time for that. Especially when you had a stupid run to get back into the boss area. Most frustrating thing about that one was the fact I couldn't get a breather as all his attacks would clip through the pillars. Was mildly frustrating.

I'm at the Attack and Dethrone God phase of an anime now. I think this last bit is the last boss? We'll find out!

Also had to look up the legendary spells trophy. Man, screw Fromsoft making me kill dragons to get an incantation to finish it. I didn't want to turn in dragon stuff, but you gonna make me.

I might actually be able to Plat this one. Just might have to do some save game copy ****ery, as I think three of them are for three different endings. Didn't read which endings, just that three trophies are endings, and yeah. Once I put this boss down, if it's the last one, I'm gonna put this one away for a bit and finally play something else.

Went back to the rot castle I couldn't find a grace in before. Found the first one in the front as advertised, cleared things out, and eventually found the second one... literally a safe left up a ladder instead of ahead. DOH. So close.

Went back to the bad level we talked about and made it to the next grace. If there’s one thing I can say for this map is that it will level you pretty quickly. I think I know where the next grace is, but if I’m reading the set up right there’s about 30 common enemies, a number of ballistas, and 1, maybe 2 hated mini-bosses. I can’t tell if the 2nd one will be able to attack at the same time yet.

                                                  How bad can it be?

Just absolutely destroyed Demi-human Queen Margot on a first attempt. Elden Ring actually making me feel good for once.

but... are they just lulling me into a false sense of security to smash me in Volcano manor? Probably.

I was levelling up and trying to use Cross-Naginata. Seems better in principle than my Banished Knights Halberd... slightly faster, intrinsic bleed, R1 and R2 buttons both useful attacks, unlike the halberd's right trigger attack which is worthless on foot... too slow, keep getting interrupted. However, the range on naginata is just shy enough that I keep whiffing retaliations, harder to use on horseback, and just generally doesn't feel great. So back to the Banished Knight's Cold Halberd... however, my detour into Cross-Nagitana helped me learn that I liked Loretta's Slash... covers up the hole in multi-enemy fights where I can't use a horse and it's quick, unlike many Ash of War abilities which just seem to open me up to getting pounded.

I didn’t think Volcano manor was that bad. Got lots of runes and a couple of items, and maybe one of the best weapons in the game if you’re into great swords

I stayed away from the halberds in this deliberately too. That was my default Dark Souls 1 weapon for the longest time. Great weapon though

Haven't done Caellid to completion yet either. I suppose I'll go back to a couple of those locations I skipped once I wrap up this area. I'm a thorough SOB. Need to get my money's worth out of this!

I mark bosses and areas that I don't want to deal with to go back to later. For example, there was an area in limdale with the freaking barbaian magic arrow snipers that would decimate me every time I went in there. Many levels later, more health, more poise and it wasn't that big a deal. That was pretty satisfying. Still haven't taken down a mausoleum... I'm a little confused on how it's done. Probably need to watch a video.

Ahh, yeah progression in this game can be tough to gauge because there's so many different ways you can go. Seems like most players will experience the areas of the game in different orders. IMO that's a good thing though! I like non-linear design. I am level 91 right now IIRC.

I think I went to the Leyndell capital a bit early, or at least before other easier areas I should have tackled first. Not a big deal as long as I feel I can handle the area, but its kind of a let down when I find a new area and realize it feels too easy for my current level. I guess that's the drawback to this type of game design. I am fine with it though, its definitely more interesting to play and really promotes natural player exploration.

As for dealing with the walking mausoleums, if you want to know you attack the white crystals on the legs and it will eventually drop and you can climb up onto it to enter.

I see a lot of people go west to Caelid before the capital though, and sometimes even before the Lake which I think is nutty. But might explain why so many people think Radahn is insurmountable. They are going to fight him too early.

I ended up getting most of it anyways from my exhaustive exploring before I looked up a couple missing things near the end here to see what I missed. All the bosses needed were already dead, except Lichdragon with the Fia quest line. Wasn't planning on doing the last bit letting her hug you one last time, cause of everything she did. I managed to get all the armaments without help, but the trophy didn't proc so I had to move weapons from storage to backpack until it popped. I missed 2 legendary sorc/incants. The aforementioned dragon incant, and I missed a goal way back in Liurnia that dropped the other. I missed 1 ash Cleanrot Knight ash in the Haligtree and I missed 1 talisman Erdtree +2 , why the hell it needs the +2 and not either of the others, who the hell knows. So I was pretty much there, just needed one or two items. Wish it was easier to tell what was needed for those legendary ones.

Fuuuuuuu.... looks like theres a hidden boss in crumbling that I missed. Way that last one was positioned thought it was a chievo for attacking and dethroning god. Looks like I got some work to do still.

Yeah, I'm just gonna do it since I'm pretty much already there. If you give me a world to explore, I'll explore it.

Managed to kill each other, so while I lost out on the Rune reward because I can't get back to the arena, I got the trophy and the remembrance at least. Good enough for me.

Oh no, I took care of most of the dragons that are around when I first went through. This one is dropping off a cliff, onto a small platform, than following a series of drops to a section of wall. Then there's a spot where you can "sleep" that'll take you to the fight. It's a giant two headed dragon. If you die, get ready to do the whole dropping section all over again! Would not have even found this one if it wasn't for a guide, but I'm at the point where I don't really feel spoiled to look it up.

I still know there's sections that I missed that I'll hit up on a subsequent character I think, will do a dex/caster run next I think. Never did Sellen's stuff, Varre's stuff, Valcano Manor stuff. Those are some questlines I can think of off the top of my head.

There's some continuation of Patches, but I don't know if it's back into unfinished quest territory or not. He gives you an item to give to Tanith, but she just goes "I don't need this" and continues making mouth noises over Rykkard's corpse. There has to be more cause the whole thing putters out.

Now to save up the game and look into how to copy and transfer my save so I can do these endings. If this was on PC it would be a lot more convenient. Gonna save Moon Waifu for last. Was cool finding her on the dead fingers with the rune carved into it near the end there.
