Plugging away. Got to the base of the Haligtree where a nice lady was waiting for me. She doesn't seem too bad, yet. I mean aside from the 100 hit combo attack. I'm sure there's got to be another phase in there somewhere.
Not sure if I should putz elsewhere or just throw myself at this one for a while. Might check out Khorne's Palace then come back to this one.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid

Starting to get unfun. No grace in the shaded castle is ridiculous. I just left my runes there. **** it. Divine Tower of callid... tons of climbing, jumping, fighting on narrow ledges. Grace... ok then... oh, more falling, fighting on narrow ledges, and then a miniboss that makes you do all of it again.

If you’re going for bleed though, did you ever pick up Reduvia? I hear it’s pretty OP, as is Rivers of Blood.
Edit: I have both Rivers of blood and Reduvia. I’m going to try those out dual wielding and respec for arcane instead of using Margot’s cursed sword. My lack of power stance skills will probably send me back to using a shield, but I’ll post impressions later today.Last edited by Lazy8s; Mar 20, 2022, 03:03 AM.

The game REALLY needs some sort of detector for this sort of thing. I end up floundering around desperately trying to figure out where they are a lot, and some stretches are a long go between graces. Something like an unlimited use item that glows the right or left edge of your screen in different intensities to help you find the nearest grace. can use it once every 30 seconds or something. I’ve been doing some play testing with Rivers of Blood and quite frankly it’s a beast. I’m going to roll with it for a while.
I’m having a completely different play experience this time around. That sword of night and flame pre-patch made areas easy that I’m seeing some difficulty with now, but I’ve also pushed into areas and am attempting bosses I’m really not leveled for yet, so time to level a bit more and press on.

Oh boy, I've just been getting my butt stomped by Malenia. Fight is kind of ridiculous as it's a crap shoot when I get her to her second phase. Never know how fast or if cause of her crazy heals.
I'll probably shelve her for a bit while I finish up the rest of the game.
Starting to get tired and wanting to play something else, but close to finish I think so I want to see this one through beforehand.
Or I'll just start up Horizon Zero Dawn anyways, cause I need some variety.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid

I might do something really dumb for an attempt and go dual whip with the mimic tear. I put cold on a Thorn Whip with Petal Whip mainhand without an enchant so I could Blood Flame Blade the sucker. The amount of procs might just overwhelm her. I just have to not get hit. Like ever. Not once.
Just makes me sad that cold scales with Int and I'm a big dumb dumb head with only like 20 Int.
Dual whips are fun to putz around with though.
Do your msgs mostly get appraised right at the start of a session? Seems like there'll be a flurry of activity for a bit after I log on and then that's it for a long while.
So... I managed to "solve" the Redmane Painting. DO NOT FIGHT THE GOLEM, HE DOESN'T DROP **** APPARENTLY. *ahem* I had some choice words after I finally managed to "fall" my way down there. This is not a platforming game, **** off with this Fromsoft. Dude is literally super high level. You don't need to fight him. Walk towards the edge by the branch you fall down on and the "painter's" spirit shows up. Golem is a troll. I repeat. Golem is a troll.
I'm gonna try to get these other ones, but ****. Fromsoft was super trolly with the one I have gotten so far. Not looking forward to the others.Last edited by YellowBeard; Mar 20, 2022, 06:37 PM.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid

I’m just busy farming and leveling right now because screw these guys. I have a mini-boss at Mohgwyns that is just griefing the heck out of me. Talk about OP. Having a hard time getting it’s timing down.
Meh, I already beat the game, now it’s time to just play, over level and have fun lol.

Gaol Cave was fun. I really enjoyed the lever releasing the burning corpses from the cages to progress. Clever mechanic.
Did some levelling and got my Faith high enough that I can cast Golden Vow without a Rune Arc or Faith medallion. Long enough that it seems worthwhile. I don't have enough FP though to cast it AND use a spirit ash in the same step though... next step. Then health... still feel too squishy, heavy armor and buffed.
Speaking of spirit ashes... so, with the downgrade of Mimic, you guys find it's still worth using? (I haven't even found it, but curious)A hobbiest foundry and forge in progress, plans, suppliers, showcasing ideas

Ughh, I need more time to play. Was too busy this weekend and didn't get to accomplish as much as I wanted to. I am finding when I know I'm not going to have at least an hour to play, I'll just continue exploring previous areas to make sure I got everything, rather than starting on a new unknown area.
However, I did make it to Mountaintops of the Giants and finally found a Somber Smithing Stone [7]. I guess I'm just sticking with this meteoric ore blade for this playthrough as my main melee weapon. Its been a real workhorse for my build, especially since scales with INT. The split damage of physical and magic hasn't been an issue. Just wish I could use ashes with it. But that's what I keep my greatsword for.
I'm still digging this game, and do continue to look forward to playing more. But I think my overall impressions are starting to form. Just hit 60 hours logged so I feel like I must be getting to the mid point and seen enough to get the idea of what this game is all about compared to past Souls games. I really like the change to open world exploration for this genre. It just makes for a more laid back experience, in improving how you don't feel locked into any tough path or situation - better than any other of their games in that way. Best part, I have never felt the need to level grind. Because there's so many places to go, I naturally gain tons of runes just from exploring. I have been taking things slow, exploring as much as possible before moving to new areas and leveling a lot and I have really not run into anything yet where I hit a wall of insurmountable difficulty. Of course I'm sure you can, if you go to tough areas too early. But I have been enjoying the more laid back gameplay flow of Elden Ring in that regard. On the flipside though, I feel the quantity outweighs the quality in this game, at least from what I've seen to this point. Lots of fun still, but at times the game has started to feel a bit dull. Could be on me somewhat though, since I've been progressing things more on the slow side.
I think for a first game of this style from them though, its a really really solid effort. But a prototype of sorts. I can imagine this as a launchpad and new standard for future Souls games and will only get better and better.

That little bit of dull you’re feeling is exactly what drove me to explore past map boundaries and find new, higher level gear etc. The payoff has been good so far, and that’s basically what my second build is centered around. Just experimenting with new weapons, seeing how far I can push into really difficult territory. Mixed success on that one lol. I’m not THAT good
I still have my beefs with some of the design, but nothing too major. Still having quite a good time with it

Thinking more about it though, I think the dullness has a lot to do with the open world of it. Honestly I feel the same way about most non-linear open world type games. Its awesome how they can create these huge worlds to roam in, but the drawback of it is there's going to be a lot of open space and you're at times going to have no direction which leads to lulls in the action and pacing issues. I kind of hate those gaming sessions when I end up roaming around for an hour and really not accomplishing all that much. Especially hurts when you're in my situation of not having enough gaming time as is.
Another big thing I am continuing to be reminded of is I keep thinking back to Nioh combat and how much more fun it is than Souls. Sometimes I kind of wish I was William in this game, and just absolute shred everything with my tonfa skills. As much as they add lots of ashes and spells, and new guard counters its still Souls combat at the end of the day and it feels very much like it has for the past decade.

I did get a little farming in, enough points in Arcane to use Rivers. So I might toss some stones its way and level it up to give it a run. I will say that I love the Katana move sets just generally. Between Sword of Night and Flame, Rivers of Blood, and Blasphemous Blade, I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to build around and use.
I was thinking for my next go around with the Fire Giant that I might give rot another try by making it the only spell my Mimic has, and go after his ankles with bleed using Rivers while we see if we can stack up some rot on him even if he's resistant to it."I'll admit it. I did try and **** her, she was married."

I still want to respec around Morgott’s Cursed blade and test that out too.
There are so many weapons choices….1st play through night and flame was the clear choice, but I want to try others, and there’s not enough stones in all the world to upgrade every one of them lol.
But I did get Radahn’s armor, so hopefully that will help keep me alive longer.
Edit: I’m spawning mimic with the rivers of blood. I’m curious if two “players” hitting him with bleed will proc him faster. I doubt it, but the more damage against his over sized health pool the better.

Ok so proof positive here that Fromsoft has made some really ….poor…design choices in some areas of the game. By “poor” I mean childish, stupid, trolling, and quite frankly annoying and idiotic. That should make my feelings clear enough
I’m not even upset, just disappointed. I’ve already cleared this area from an alternate path in my first play through and just wanted to confirm I wasn’t missing anything during this one.
In Mohgwyns Palace at the very first grace you get to when entering the area. I’m leaving this without spoiler tags on purpose.
Look to the left to the large lake of blood. Clearing that, I knew about the NPC invader. No big deal. but coming from this direction, about 300’ from where the invader spawned, it spawned again. killed it again. A very short way in, it spawned yet again, and then AGAIN.
Due to the very dangerous packs of enemies in there I died on the 4th invasion.
but really Fromsoft? For all the praise for other areas and enemies I can offer, this is 180 degrees in the extreme other direction. If anyone from Fromsoft ever sees this - Your decision to add that layer of difficulty and frustration was just Stupid. Completely at odds with the rest of this amazing game.
Stupid.
Edit: I just read up on it and they’re supposed to spawn 3 times. Nope, not this time. I still think it could have been done much better.Last edited by Lazy8s; Mar 21, 2022, 10:03 AM.

A hahaha, I was so angry the first time that happened cause you aggro one of those stupid crows at the same time so you have to fight both at once. After that it went a little better, cause each time I was "knocked" off my horse I was in a better spot where it was just the two of us. I'm using the helm you get from them as we speak though. :3
Also, power stancing whips in kinda funny. That first dragon in Crumbling Whatchamacalit I'm pretty sure you were supposed to just run past it since there is a grace just on the other side. He pissed me off and I ended up putting cold on both whips and summoning my mimic. So many frostbite procs. **** you dragon. Still need more stones so I can buff up my offhand whip some more. The bearing has to be in here somewhere as I just picked up a somber bell. I have like 4 or 5 ancient stones ready to go. Just need the 8s or whatever that's before them.
Edit: So yeah. I've heard quite a bit about the Godskin Duo fight. Not where it was, but that you had to fight the two guys at once and it was rough. SO, it looks like I ended up taking a weird way around that let me summon a recusant. So, him, me with my two bleed/cold whips, and my mimic tear, just absolutely put them through the shredder. Bleeds and frostbites were proccing all over the place. Combined with the fact I'm wearing a White Mask that ups my damage if there is a bleed in the area, along with Lord of Blood's talisman which does the same and I think stacks with that, and rotten winged sword insignia that ups my damage with consecutive attacks. It was just whips flying all over the place. I don't think I'm gonna shred a boss like that again in a while, but I'll take this one.Last edited by YellowBeard; Mar 21, 2022, 11:05 AM.“On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid

I am having my first real issue with the game after 50 something hours. All of a sudden game won't launch. I just get a white screen then back to the desktop.
Just tried restarting, verifying game files, and also updated to latest GeForce driver. Trying another restart now. What the hell it was just working fine this morning.
[EDIT] Tried disabling MSI Afterburner / Rivatuner and that fixed it. WTF? I have been playing the game with those the whole time with no problem. They do not auto-update or anything either. Weird.Last edited by Meteor_of_War; Mar 21, 2022, 02:54 PM.

So I’ve been playing around with some weapons.
Rivers of Blood +9 - hands down the best katana I’ve used yet. Fast and high damage, and the skill brings on the bleed proc fast.
Morgott’s cursed sword +7- classed as a great sword, but a bit faster with a cool, time delayed fire trail and explosion for it’s skill. Probably great for crowd control.
Blasphemous Blade +7 > Holy HellSolid, but not crazy dps, but that skill. That skill is a ranged, powerful fire shot along the ground that just smokes anything it hits. The best part, it seems damaging an enemy heals you the player, by large chunks sometimes. Love it. This is my go to great sword now.
I’m not posting numbers because I had to use a combination of great rune and talismans to meet the specs for the weapons so I could test the skills.
They also are not upgraded equally just because I have to farm or buy more stones.
fwiw.
