People found new OP weapons in this patch btw, From fixed arcane scaling, so that blood katana is now really, really good

Well, two NPCs just took off. Now to try to find them out in the world. Also ran into my good buddy Alexander, was wondering when I was going to see him again. Didn't expect him where he was. Now I gotta go find him somewhere else now. At least he told me what region he was headed to this time.

Yeah, if From is gonna nerf something, they should at least spend the time to actually fix it in the first place as well. Hoarfrost still repeatably goes under geometry, or in some cases, if there's a pillar, it would cast 8 feet in the air and do nothing. So if you're on an uneven surface, well, it goes under the ground and is completely useless. So not only does it cost more, yadda, yadda, but the entire skill can still be eaten up by uneven terrain. They couldn't even be asked to fix that aspect. I didn't even try it to see what the damage looked like now, just putzed to see what the casting delay was and the entire thing went underground on my first cast. They could have at least actually spent the time to fix the skill at the same time.

Instead of nerfing things into oblivion because of PVP maybe they should actually buff other things. Like the fact that I have 40+ into faith with an almost maxed seal and my incantations do less than a swipe from my melee weapon for the most part, have long cast times, and use quite a bit of FP. Hell I used the trinket to get 50 faith to try out one spell and it's absolutely lackluster in it's damage for the investment it takes. Seriously, most things have such long wind ups, weapon arts, incantations, etc that they end up being highly situational to use. There's a cold weapon art, freezing mist I think, that the wind up is so damn long on, I'd just use it early to buff my freezing damage on my weapon and not actually use the hit to attack.

It's little things like that, where as they make enemies faster, make wind ups and cast times faster so they're more useful.

I dunno, that's just me though.

Awe that sucks. All I know is they better fix performance regarding stuttering. 12 million copies sold. I think they're obligated to.

NPCs you've talked to don't show up on the map for you now?

That’s great to see. I don’t know what we may expect in the future from other devs, but they’re definitely seeing these numbers and thinking about what gamers are showing that they really want

Hopefully we’ll see more like this one day.

Ha I can totally see how that could happen. After the first boss you can go left or right. One way takes you to the area's final boss, the other takes you to a lift down. Also the final boss is up another tree branch, which I seem to easily miss.

Nah, two of the NPCs that had the additional quests added this patch. Left, but no indication of where they could have gone. Someone in the basement finally stopped talking about what a certain spirit ash reminded her of, and Gastoc finally stopped kicking the guys head and disappeared. Where did they go? Who knows.

Hmm I thought the patch was adding markers for all known NPCs. Are you sure you checked all grace markers on your map? For me it shows the NPC's name with the grace name.

As far as I've looked they are nowhere to be found, I'll look again when I sit down a bit later, but it looks like it only shows where known npcs you've seen before are.

I'm still kinda worked up over the hoarfrost thing. Not that it was nerfed, but more so that they took the time to look at it and it still has ****ed up pathing where terrain can negate the cast. More that it casting underground was a known issue and all they did was change spreadsheet values around when they took a look at it and left the garbage casting underground in.

The fact that this game has outsold BOTW out of the gate by this much hurts my soul.

She's not where she's supposed to be right now, or you just don't know where she is supposed to be? If the latter, just look it up. Fextralife probably has that NPC's questline detailed well by now.

Oh, yeah I would think they would only show markers once you've found them and they are staying at that spot for now. Once you progress something that makes them move I would assume you'd have to find them again before the game puts a new map marker.

It’s really a great game once you learn all of the quirks and mechanics of a Fromsoft title with Dark Souls mechanics.

She only shows 3 times before giving you a talisman. She was there at the first location, but never showed at either of the remaining 2 even though I did them in order. Lots of posts about it on Reddit, so it’s happening with quite a few folks.

No big deal really as you can get another talisman with the same effect, but it’s a bit more complicated, and I’ve already died a few times going for it I’ll have it soon though.

I just did the 2 bosses in Leyndell with my 2nd build by the way. 3 battles total, both down so I can open the part where it starts getting harder now

Oh, THAT is where it starts getting harder??

You know its weird. In some ways Elden Ring is easier than other FS games, but in some ways they turned up the difficulty to 11 billion.

Yup. Just gonna be interesting trying to find them so late in the game since most every area is "open" to me at the moment. Gonna be a lot of just going from grace to grace and hoping I catch them. That's if they're even by a grace and not somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Without any hints it's gonna be hard.

You’re right though, it is weird. In a way it seems they borrowed some ideas from Team Ninja and modified them to fit in this IP. Spirits, OP abilities, tons of weapons and loot. But they made it work. I still would question certain things like where I can use spirits and Torrent, or not…but overall it works.

Haha I get your frustration. Like I mentioned earlier, it was bad enough being this obscure in past games. But now with such a huge open world its getting to be ridiculous. I would have welcomed some form of NPC quest notes system in the menu with last conversation and even maybe a hint to where they were heading.

Yeah I still have not figured out the game's logic for when or wont allowing spirit summons. Seems very arbitrary.

What do the top 3 on the lower graph have in common? Big worlds with a lot of exploration and discovery. This is why they're blowing away their old Dark Sould formula. you can only sell so many units to people that demand punishing combat and that's THE reason they're buying it.

It's completely arbitrary. It's wherever they decide to place a marker on the landscape. If you're within a radius of one of those markers the spirits can be summoned/exist. leave the radius and they vanish.

Some boss fights they put a marker, some they don't. Sometimes they allow a marker in non-boss fights too (usually when there are a lot of enemies)

There's a physical marker on the landscape where you can summon spirits? I thought it was just the icon that pops up on the left side of the screen. I don't think I ever noticed an actual marker, like the Marika stakes for respawning or co-op summoning pool marker.

Yeah, I was figuring most boss fights they were able to summon as well as some "areas" forts, etc. Is that the little mini obelisk that's on the ground that everyone leaves a msg on that says "but hole"? I was wondering what those were.

There's also some small glowing lines in front of forts and other places that's a signifier for no Tempest I've seen.

Still trying to find the updated questlines. Probably just gonna do a google search cause ain't nobody got time for that. Did find Alexander though and he gave me a pot helmet. :3

I don't think I ever noticed an actual marker, like the Marika stakes for respawning or co-op summoning pool marker.
Pretty sure there's a little square stick I've seen when the mausoleum icon shows. Or maybe it was coincidence. But the radius thing stll stands even if you can't see a physical stick in game. Recently was able to summon at the bottom of a cliff that happened to be adjacent to a boss fight on the top. Small area it worked at... obviously at the very limit of their range.

                                                    So, about them quest updates.

Don't know the trigger when they migrate there, but you find them all in the throne room in Stormveil castle. Might be more with one of them, but the gatekeeper lets you buy an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone for 20k and the Lady gives you another. So, worth it to find them.

Yeah, I would have had no idea to look for them there.

This is right. They're little monument looking pillars. You'll notice them because everyone keeps putting "But hole" messages on top of these pillars. But yeah where you see one of those, is where you can summon a spirit ash. I kinda hate that mechanic since I don't love being forced into not knowing if that tool is available to me or not in a fight.

There is an actual lore reason for those stakes being where they are though.

                                                        I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm about 10 hours in.

But it's not on the level of Breath of the Wild from what I've seen so far, especially if you look at the polish level of the release.

This is teaching the industry to continue to release unfinished products because people will buy off of hype then complain only once they spend the money.

For the size and depth of the game I think it was a fairly solid launch with minimal problems. Nowhere near as bad as Cyberpunk for example. The performance issues are a thing but honestly they are not game breaking, for me at least. I am pretty sensitive to framerate issues too. But aside from that I really haven't run into many other problems at all in over 50 hours played.

I loved Breath of the Wild too. But that game is like a child's plaything compared to Elden Ring.

This game does not deserve to be above witcher3.

Also, I'm about |-| this close to removing it from my PS5. I'm still stuck on this draconic tree sentinel. I can play the fight completely perfect, get suckered by a fireball that I dodged but somehow the AOE splash hits me despite my I-frame, and then I'm dead. One mistake, dead. Dude hits like a ****ing 10 ton truck.

My favorite is when I am sprinting on the horse at full speed and I watch the fireball curve in mid-air to hit me while I'm sprinting sideways. It's hilariously ****ing stupid and pathetically blatant tracking.

                                                            I'm about over it.

Just put Draconic Tree Sentinel on hold and go explore somewhere else for a while. Level up some then return to it later and you'll crush him.

I was also a little surprised Witcher 3 only sold 6 million at launch. I would have guessed it to be at 10 million.

As for game comparisons, in pure RPG territory IMO Witcher 3 is the greatest RPG ever made. But its more character driven with better quests, dialogue etc. Elden Ring has it beat on challenge and depth of combat mechanics. As for copies sold, I just think Elden Ring had a ton of hype leading into release. From Soft's reputation has just been growing and growing every year with each game they make.

But Cyberpunk just sold a ton. I think if a Witcher 4 got released it will sell much more, especially since the Netflix series has been successful.

It really took the wind out of my sails and I'm not enjoying it. Found myself just trying to run past stuff. Leyndell knight somehow tracked me past 8 different turns while I was sprinting and got me from behind while I was fighting some dogs.

I just closed the game up. I've really lost interest after that fight. It really took the wind out of my sails and I'm not enjoying it. Found myself just trying to run past stuff. Leyndell knight somehow tracked me past 8 different turns while I was sprinting and got me from behind while I was fighting some dogs.

I thought Elden Ring might be the first one I actually finish but I think today might be one of the last few times I launch it.

But, just something to think about, according to Steam global achievements only about 30% of players have defeated the boss in that area you just got to. So you have come way further than most people already. Maybe just give it a break and try it again in a week or two?

With 25 End and that trinket it allows me to wear full Tree Crucible, a medium shield, and my heavy ass scythe and stay in Medium. Even better if I stack erdtree +1 with it. Can't look at the super heavy stuff though, but it's enough for if I feel like beefing up my armor for a fight.

Ghost City is rough Trying to fight them assassin's without my shield suuuuucks. It's either shield and they're invisible, or I have the sentry torch in my other hand and they're visible.

Might continue Mountain of Giants in the interim? I'm not 100% though as I don't know if I trigger next part of story if a world state changes. Don't want to miss out on any quests, etc.

I did the Volcano manor first play through, and hit a portal in this one that warped me there at about level 40. I said Nope and got out
