    So I started NG+

It’ll be a nice year or 2 just tooling around doing stuff…because no other dev is releasing anything any time soon that will hold my attention after this.

    It’s been a great ride.

Now that I have enough strength, I can equip the Cuckoo Greatshield, which is solving a lot of my problems with magical attacks and pairs nicely with Barricade.

Just did a watchdog encounter where I absorbed the big hits that always used to nail me hard.

Pairing with the banished Knight halberd and cold damage. The slowdown is nice. lets you get some nice chain stabs off.

Feeling a bit more durable now, which is my comfort zone.

Now I need to figure out whether to go Int or Faith or stay the course and just keep getting more health/stamina. Offensively, I don't expect to do anything past an opening salvo and/or lengthy self-buff as you rarely seem to get a lot of time for fiddling. What's a good first-strike offensive spell to shoot for early game. Same for late game.

Thanks. I have it, in fact that's how I'm putting cold damage on my halberd. Using it would mean forgoing my Barricade, but I might be able to deal with that now... will have to experiment!

So, no recommended spells then? just double-down on current build strategy?

most people tend to use Magic Glintblade, it's useful, but if it's the "best" easy to use/find spell for your build? Dunno, i played faith/dex build with fast dagger (Reduvia) and Curved Greatsword (Bloodhound's Fang) and Blasphemous Blade depending on which enemies needed to be spanked.

There are mist spells, and Dragon rotten breath that deal damage over time if you’re specked for them. I think one of the mist spells acts a bit like sloth in Nioh as well, never tried it though.

Rotten Breath is almost a must as most bosses are weak against it, frost is also a good choice and would fit his build

It’s good to have both. Rotten breath is the best by far, but the ‘cast’ is a bit lengthy, not great for really fast and aggressive enemies unless they’re kept occupied by your summons for a moment. Hoarfrost stomp is pretty fast and seemed to stagger most enemies. There are also a couple where it’s almost a must have, like Alecto.

yep, that's why i mentioned it first.

I dunno. Going back to the starting area and dropping a face full of Dragon Rot Breath on that spider dude and then hiding behind my shield watching him die a slow painful death was certainly worth a few points in Faith.

OP status effect incantation? Yeah I'd be up for putting some points into FTH to use that. Just have to find it first.

No spoilers, I have an idea - somewhere in the rotting lands of Caelid. Not ready to dive into that area yet though, I need to investigate Leyndell, Royal Capital first and see if its where I should go next.

                            Okay. So, I'm in trouble.

I heard the Mimic Tear was pretty good. So I farmed up some Ghost Glovewort and upgraded him to level 10. Just went back to visit the Dragonkin boss that wrecked me earlier.

                            I'm scared.

set up one of you for ranged and the other for melee. Whatever you have equipped the mimic will use. So you could, say, spawn him in with a sword for up close, and it will attack that way, but switch to your seal for casting after he spawns. He will go in for melee and you can stand back and cast - if that makes sense.

Makes fights much simpler that way.

                                That makes complete sense.

For the big Dragonkin fight in Nokstella I walked into the arena, summoned the Mimic, then ran around behind him. By the time I got there my Mimic was going all Super Saiyan with the Sword of Night & Flame energy beam and the poor ****er's health was already at 50%

I think I got in my Mimic's way more than I did help win the fight.

That fight that went easier, it’s a weird one. I expected a bad time with it and it was easy. Another one, maybe the one you’re at now, gave me more a workout.

I think I ran into 3 or 4 of them throughout the game.

Edit: Nope, just 2 of them, my bad. Probably confusing it with something else…

Slow morning so I played a little. Working my way through Leyndell city. Its not a cakewalk but I think I can handle it at my current level.

I pushed through and unlocked 3 graces so far. This place is huge, and feels like Bloodborne Yharnam city level design. Lots of different paths to explore, and have already gotten a ton of runes and leveled up 3 times. Just killed an Erdtree Avatar that dropped a Lord's Rune worth 50k.

I have my Vigor at 40 finally, which appears to be the soft cap. Starting to focus on leveling INT more now so I can use a better staff and more spells.

Looked into rotten breath and saw it needs 15 FTH and 12 ARC. I am a bit a ways off from that, would need about 11 levels I think. So I'll probably not worry about picking that up at least until after I am set with INT.

As for my weapon, still using the meteoric ore blade +6. Its a great weapon, especially since I am leveling INT. Only real drawback to it is I'm not a big fan of the gravitas skill, and you can't change ashes of war on it or apply any elements/buffs. I guess they had to limit its godliness somehow. So I am still also using the Lordsworn's Greatsword +11 for whenever I want to apply any ashes or frost.

For crying out loud where's all the cool armor sets? I'm still using starter gear.

I found a nice heavy armor (Lionel's Set) but its way too heavy for me. This game is so damn huge. I might have to just look up locations of armor sets and choose one and go get it.

That’s where I found boss armors, plus scattered around. I think the Cleanrot Knight set had the most balanced numbers for me though.

I'm fine with something just if it looks cool. But it has to be at least as good as my starter Vagabond set, and not much heavier.

Guess I will keep looking. Maybe I'm starting to come up to where I'll be finding flashier stuff.

That Cleanrot armor set looks sick, as long as you're not moving around. I think it bugs me slightly watching how the "cape" part gets all floaty if you're running around. It distracts me. So I went with Radahn's set because reasons.

                                                Fashion Souls FTW

I like the way the Confessor set looked if there's a way to get that as a non-Confessor starting build I wouldn't mind giving that a try. Too bad you can't upgrade armor sets using Smithing Stones though. I miss that a bit from previous games.

Yeah I noticed that early on that you cannot upgrade armor pieces in this game. Bummer.

Anyways, looking through the list of sets on the Fextralife Elden Ring page looks like I will likely need to get my encumbrance up a bit to use better armors and maintain medium load. Figured as much. But just seems odd in a game this big I haven't really found many armor sets that look cool. Maybe I am really just still in the early game.

Nor do a cosmetics transfer from your armor to a different look. I suppose they do that for PVP purposes.

I have no issue taking an attempt or two on it, especially since I dominate normal Tree Sentinel's, but I'm getting tired of the game trying to dictate to me how I will play. Some of the mechanics in the are just garbage and really take away from the experience. I've been getting increasingly frustrated since arriving at Leyndell. Regular mobs that are mimics of boss fights.. lol the ****?

Draconic Tree Sentinel can be a tough boss, depending on your level. I beat him at level 60 and it took me 5 tries. Only other bosses that have been that tough for me so far have been Margit and Godrick. In the second phase with the lightning strikes from afar the game seems to want you to get off Torrent and fight him on foot. That's what I did and the lightning becomes a non-issue since you keep him occupied with high DPS attacks.

I get it though, you have the same kind of complaints as koralis about the game forcing you to play a certain way. That's a common complaint about From Soft bosses. You might like Nioh more. Those games allow more freedom in how you fight because the combat skills in Nioh are waaay deeper, and the game never really takes away from you a certain playstyle.
