Sounds like you might not have received the summoning bell yet.

If not, I think you need to go back to the Church of Elleh grace. Its the first church you find, near the Tree Sentinel. At least that's where I got it. After resting at the grace there an NPC should appear to you.

I got him though. I used a magic grease on the sword and got him down with a flask charge left. I kept ****ing up my roll timing on his quick bottom to up swing and then I'd get combo'd to death after.

      Got him though. Ezpz
Two ways. It's kind of a weird mechanic on how to get the ability to do it for something so ingrained in the game.

      1. The NPC that gives you the item -MIGHT- be at the Church of Ellah at night.

      2. If not 1 The twin old hag shop keeper at the Roundtable hold will sell you the summoning bell for cheap.

Might just want to do 2 and see if the item is there for sale. You might have been past the part for the person in 1 to show up with how weird quests in Souls games work.

Yes, as other than the regions in/around the starting area it's probably the easiest location in the game. Stormveil is fairly large and may take you a few sessions to fully clear, so if you ever get stuck in there or feel underpowered feel free to leave, go elsewhere (like the south), level up a bit then return.

Yeah, don't skip on the Southern Peninsula. Besides it having some decent items down there there's like 2 or 3 sacred tears down there that upgrade your flask to heal more.

Don't have the summoning bell, thanks guys I'll figure that out. Currently tredging through Stormveil castle, but I might go get that bell and then push that south peninsula

All I have that can play this is a vanilla PS4. Is it worth picking up or should I wait a year for when we get a PS5? Who am I kidding - I 'll play it for 2 hours and never touch it again.

I just said **** it for my second attempt and spammed my sacred ring skill and managed to take him out.

Well, took care of the boss down in one of the rivers. The river with the ants. There's a lot more down there it looks like I can get to, but at the same time, I'm not finding a way to get to it. Gonna assume you get to those areas at a later time.

I will say, as impressive as big bosses are, they're hard to keep track of. If you lock on, you might be locked on a spot that's higher than your attack, but if you don't lock on, at lot of them move so damn fast it's hard to keep track of where they're at. Just a no win situation.

Still have a couple trouble spots to clear out in the first three areas, but I probably should be moving on. Either to the Mountain, or where the dude at the Roundtable Hold is telling me to go. Still not 100% which one is "slightly" easier and thus where I should head next.
Good points. I often thought “man! I wish I could zoom out when fighting **insert boss name** so I can see where it is.

That’s what I did. So far so good. I think it’s almost cleared. There are a few bosses / fights I have to come back to later.

I finished my second full play through of Witcher 3 + DLCs before getting into ER. Man, I miss the quest guide!

Here’s a quick and spoiler free guide to what to grab at the start if you don’t mind tips like this.

And look for Stormhill shack, I’m sure you passed it already. Exhaust the girls dialogue and she gives you the jellyfish Cyko mentioned. It’s badass in the right fights

                      Hope that helps a bit.

I would wait to be honest. It’s a beautiful game with a lot going on graphically, so the vanilla 4 might chug a bit.

Just an FYI it’s pretty punishing in spots….mostly

Forgot to mention, a new area I just got into has some easy, and some absolute murderers. One bite inflicts bleed 100% and dead.

So Fromsoft put yet another NPC invader right in the middle

I managed to kill it, but had to get back to the grace for flasks. Went back and…got invaded again.

Weren’t NPC invaders a one and done in every other game? Now I have to fight through an invader every time. Not cool.

I wonder if she didn't give me the item because I didn't have the bell.. I'll have to talk to her again now.

Stormhawk is worth it too. Gives you a nice buff and does a good job of grieving and distracting enemies.

Well, I’m stopping forward progress for now. I found a late game area that yields an easy half a million runes in 30 minutes Hard to get to, but worth it.

                                Mohgwyn Palace

Level 115 now and I’m just going to clean up missed areas in the southern maps for a while. I thought all the maps opened during the first 40 hours was nearing the end

At a really generous guess, I would say that if you only do the main story line, you’re missing at least 60% of the content.

That's the reason I fought the boss. Saw the guide statue pointing down there and couldn't figure out how to get down there. And yeah, those fellers hit hard down there.

Speaking of bum cameras and large bosses. Got to a very large gimmick boss and it's hell trying to keep track of things. Probably first boss I just quit playing on. Nothing is consistent either. Why yes, I'll instantly die to a poison pool one go, but barely be tagged by it on another run. Did my behaviour change to avoid it? Nope.

What boss was that? I’ve had a couple tag teaming with the camera monster. I usually wind up pinned against a structure and can’t see where to roll/escape.

God devourer. It's just the RNG in basic attacks. That and the fact that he's almost the size of the room, yet still moves towards you with a pool of magma around him. So without even realizing you can be stuck between a rock and a magma pool because you can't see anything on your screen.

Good thing those stones are just one needed each level. Wound up with a +6 I'm never going to use. Unless there's another boss it'll work on, but I'm doubting it.

Started the Manor stuff, but didn't go through with the first contract they gave me. I ain't turning into an invader. Just hope that doesn't come to bite me in the ass later. I'm fine missing out on some stuff from not going through with it. Hope it wasn't a big story decision i.e. I didn't get the stuff, and it's going to count against me at a later date.

Oh I have a lot of clean up to do after the final boss goes down. I’m not sure how far til then, but I’m certain I’m in the endgame now.

On that boss we’re talking about, I never upgraded the weapon. I had him all but beat the first go, and got staggered in the lava. Second run I switched mimic tear up so he was set to distract, and got the boss pretty easily.

That’s one thing about that summons. You can literally have a mage for distracting ranged attacks and a warrior for melee at the same time. Really sweet set up

Oh look at you with your fancy summons and you're not needing to upgrade the gimmick weapon and your 20+ levels on me.

Bit the bullet a while ago and started upgrading Lithuania the Headless She's pretty tanky. Also required me leveling up way too many times in Mind just to have the FP pool. Also, nice of Fromsoft to actually give you more points in something the higher it is. I'm sure it'll hit soft cap, but after a while each level that was +3 FP is now +6. Usually it's the other way around. Don't know which way to slot stats though. Half in the bag between rotating through Faith, End, Vit, and Mind. Though I might need some Int cause I have some incantations that need that as well. Who knows. I always just mess it all up and somehow come through. Part of me also wants to respec into a magical knight.

Did manage to get a new set of armor though during the Manor assault though. Black Flame Monk. It's the same, but white! Also, has a little reduced phys deefense, but like 3 or 4 more poise. So, eh. Kind of want to mix things up since I've been staring at the same armor since Hogwarts.

Yeah, that's what it's there for. Shouldn't be too bad once you get past the initial hump. At least in this one it pretty much lets you loose on the open world so you can fart around and get equipment fairly easy, unlike in DS3 which starts you off at a boss fight that you have to get through to be able to do anything.

I can't remember if you have to be at a certain grace, or just rest at them a few a few times before the lady comes that will allow you to level.
Which is a lot better than previous games where you had to beat (DS3)/ see (BB) a boss before you could.

And look for Stormhill shack, I’m sure you passed it already. Exhaust the girls dialogue and she gives you the jellyfish Cyko mentioned. It’s badass in the right fights

                                                        Hope that helps a bit.

You know, I have sort of a magic based knight now, and I’m still waffling about respeccing. I have something like 15 larval tear and this end game area is….deadly. If your build isn’t solid by the time you get here…well….you know how these games go.

I also have a new hated enemy….heck man…watch out for the death status. The enemies are hyper aggressive and proc me in about 20 seconds and thanks for the command insta-grab one shots FromSoft….jeez.

I’m about lvl 125 now and I’m either killing them or they are just messing me up fast, ugly and bad.

I don’t know what build to go for that covers all the bases

Haha yeah, I'm tempted cause damn is there a lot of Sorceries in this games. Plus that Int shield from Hogwarts looks damn fine. Better than my turtle shell I've been running with since I found it. Seems that Incantations are starting to drop more at least so we'll see how Faith goes for now.

Just got to the boss in the capital. Haven't seem them yet, but they keep telling me something happaned in Limgrave so I think I'm gonna take a detour.

I must say, From Soft did a terrific job with the marketing on this game. They have been scooping up a lot of first timers. Also converting back some naysayers.

So I respecced for a melee/sorcery build using Moonview (Katana that scales with INT) and a heavier armor. Gave a quick run through a late game area and I now understand why so many bloodstains show tanky players with massive swords.

Went back to the lady and respecced again to get my sweet little Sword of Night and flame back.

Lightweight and hits like a tank ranged or up close > tanky with less stamina.

Level 126 now and looking for 150 by the final boss.

For perspective, with the exception of 4 bosses, most go down in less than 3 attempts, a lot of them just 1 or2. Calling it a solid build after all.

                                                                            Comment

They do an incredible job building worlds and this one seems to be amazing at a whole new level. But I don't think I am up for the grind myself. My gaming time is too limited and PS5 controllers are far too fragile.
