You're doing better than me. Haven't beaten any of those.

The open world is awesome but there is a lot to see and do, and I kinda wish I had a bit more direction. Quest log or journal to keep me focused just a little more. As of right now I'm just running all over the place on the horse lol
Old school... pad and paper to write things down. I mark dungeons/bosses/etc I need to deal with and cross em off my list when I finish.

I see OP in Souls games as fair play. The game is built to troll the hell out of players. OP items let the players troll it back

Haha, **** we're going back to the old days at this point. I would love to see them add a journal though.. I think that's a really good feature for them to add in a patch down the road.

I thought they had one when the game launched. I’m way in now and still figuring out where I have to go, but from the start, if you wander north and explore you’ll eventually figure it out. And just like other Souls games, if you go into an area you aren’t ready for, you’ll know it.

Yep, because **** them. I use every advantage the game allows me, and I fight as dirty as the game looks.

I kind of really appreciate the old school approach. Games these days go too far in holding the player's hand. Nice to see a developer that respects the player's intelligence and desire for exploration and figuring things out on their own. Plus, it reminds me a lot of the old school Zelda games. But the game does show you where to go for the story bits, just follow all the golden arrows that lead from graces on the map. There will be several at a time of course, so its up to you to figure out which order to tackle them.

As for my progress, I got a good chunk of time to play over the weekend. Explored the outskirts of Limgrave to the south, east, and north. Pretty much finished the south (peninsula), and a lot of the east. The north though seemed like more of a main story section, at least at this point. Wont go into detail because it spoil too much for those that have yet to go there, but I will say I just unlocked the ability to respec.

I am still really enjoying it, and my character (after 30 hours played) is starting to come together. Going to be a quality build with some points to INT for a bit of sorcery. So far:

              Level: 53
              VIG: 28
              MND: 10
              END: 21
              STR: 20
              DEX: 19
              INT: 18
              FTH: 9
              ARC: 7

I do feel like once you have the stats to use the weapon you want its better to just dump points into stats other than STR/DEX. I went a few more higher in DEX than I needed to, but realized too late. Much better to focus on upgrading weapons to get your damage scaling, from what I've seen so far - at least until I start finding weapons with S scaling. So I am now focusing on leveling VIG/END and will probably put some into MND for more skill/spell use. Although I do already have 9 flask charges, and upgraded the flasks to +5.

As for weapons and armor, using the Meteoric ore blade +5 (seems to be a popular choice for early game), and the Demi-human queen's staff for sorcery. For armor, still using the vagabond starting armor, really haven't found anything better yet.

Everything Meteor said > this really is old school, write everything down, read descriptions and exhaust dialogue with NPCs kind of action.

I’m also convinced the OP items won’t be nerfed for the simple fact that FromSoft has clearly ditched the “Difficult but fair” formula. I’m fighting mini-bosses that are tougher than some of the main legendary bosses. Looking at you Black Blade Kindred you dirty little ****. I really hate those things.

You do whatever you can to kill the enemy, cheese or otherwise.

yep, just kill 'em all, well, not all, there is someone you shouldn't....but that's another story.

As for the stats, of course they are important. But once you have put enough into the slots you really_need_ you're basically free to dump 'em wherever you want, most likely into strength (for that Boss-like healthbar). People often tend to spread out the stats which is of course teh worst thing you could do. Also don't forget that there's a soft cap (everything beyond 60 is plain stupid)

as usual, just my 2 pennies....

PVP might lead to some nerfs, looks like the OP pve items are just as broken in PVP, so it is basically one shot city right now.

So before work this morning wanted to figured one unknown thing out that has been bugging me. I still had not found where to bring Godrick's Great Rune.

I knew from the description it needed to go to the Limgrave Divine tower, but didn't know where that was. Taking some time to analyze the map closer I noticed the bridge and tower and realized I never really explored all of the area of Stormveil castle right behind the front gate. I could not believe the level design of that place, there were still a good few spots I didn't get to - and it felt super good getting revenge from behind on those snipers manning the ballistas.

Anyways I found the way to the tower, but then when I restored power to the great rune and equipped it I didn't know what it did. Checking my stats it did not change anything. Had to look it up because I simply could not figure it out. From what I read turns out you need to also consume a Rune Arc, and the effects last until you die. So its kind of like this game's version of an ember from DS3. I have only came across a couple Rune Arcs though. Not sure how much you can depend on them in this.

Something I've been curious about... faith/int affect magnitude of the effect for a given spell, or just how good of a spell you can equip?

I’ve got quite a few rune arcs, but I just save them for tough areas and fights. Godricks perks are pretty solid too.

One thing I did want to mention, in the city up high on a ledge trying to figure out how to get to an item below. Saw a flash and thought I was being ambushed, jumped and swung and fell. It was just another players ghost

Worked out great because I landed exactly where I needed to

                            Loving the jumps and tension

That’s a good question. I know it affects weapon scaling, but…I have a spell that needs 13 arcane, and with the bare minimum it’s devastating if I can complete the entire cast. If that scales with level, I need to level that some more….

                                  It’s a fun area

Edit: Going through my inventory I found I had another medallion half. I had no idea what/where/how to use it so I googled it and, while I’m in the middle of trying to get the other half right now, it unlocks another entire secret map.

Just when I think I’ve stumbled onto the last area/map….another makes itself known. Just crazy, the scope of this world

It’s crazy isn’t it? The only thing I have trouble with are the really fast attacks, but even with only 35 INT and 24 FTH it just tears through enemies

Edit: Still running into areas with multiple tough enemies and can’t summon my spirit. Why FromSoft? Lol

Talking about Rennala? Which phase, first or second? First phase was extremely easy once I figured it out, but yeah her second phase threw me for a loop for a few tries. They definitely did a good job making it tough to get a good attack on her, but luckily once I did it was for a lot of damage. Also, she seems to summon different spirits on each attempt? First time she summoned a Bloodhound Knight, but on the next attempt she summoned a dragon which flattened me pretty quick. Third and final attempt I killed her before she could get any summons off.

Was a good fight though. Fun, and didn't feel unfair. I did get the sense I might have been a bit over-leveled for that area though. I think that might be an ongoing issue with this game, and one From Soft may have decided there aren't many ways to deal with it. Because of the open world and not being directed on any one path while you might run into areas that are too tough for you yet, the opposite will also apply in that you will run into areas you are over-leveled for. Since I conquered the south of Limgrave first, and most of the east I was pretty experienced by the time I went north.

Yeah that 2nd phase lol. I got one shotted the first time and died a few times until I figured out how OP jump attacks were. Next effort I just spammed that and it went pretty quickly.

At this point though, looking back I can say it was much easier than some later on

One important thing I think I have learned about this game is it can be the hardest, or easiest Souls game ever. Depends on how you play. Hard if you rush to new areas, or easy if you take too much time in areas and level too much before moving on. But its easy to do that, because the game world is so big and interesting.

I am taking my sweet ass time exploring every nook I come across, and leveling up as much as I can before moving on. I think its just going to make the experience more enjoyable. I'm kind of done with that super hard "I don't belong here" type difficulty in these games anymore. I just want to get as OP as I can and smash the **** out of everything.

I’m in one of those tough, secret areas now. It’s manageable though, the NPC invader went down easy and so far so are the enemies, but they’re yielding a ton of runes.

                                                    It’s The Consecrated Snowfield

And of course FromSoft ****s up another area.

There’s a portal I want to use. Short run from the grace. Killed enemies, killed NPC invader. Not good enough. Another NPC invader dual wielding Redivia daggers with blood arts. Spam rolls, spams blood arts and 2 shots a 105 level player. It also runs faster than me and can punish any attempt at healing.

Such addictive games, but this one mechanic - I’m calling it. Miyazaki may be a design genius, but he’s also a sick and twisted little girl inside that got slapped around and forced to wear a dress in grade school.

That felt good getting that out.

Seriously, just let players enjoy the ****ing game.

I always felt FS put certain super tough stuff in their games just for the small percentage of players that really want that masochistic challenge.

That sort of ridiculous stuff is usually late game or optional. As long as its not progression blocking I don't mind it in the game.

That’s what’s got me irked Meteor. It’s literally blocking an entire area. You have to use a portal, no other way, and this guy spawns right near it, which shuts down the portal.

I’ll get it eventually. It’s just one of those ridiculously OP NPCs. As bad or worse than a human invader.

First one had an exit that put me out on a path to The giant Jar guy, which I almost had the three invaders in front of him beat, but I ****ed up on the last one and forgot that hitting them while they're jumping doesn't do **** all expect make you eat their jump attack. The run back to try again wasn't doing it for me at the moment so I put a pause on that one.

Didn't look like any dropping points behind the throne, but I can see the grace down there. I know there's more, just not sure if I can get there from where I'm at. Thinking I need another access point.

I don't want somber stones damnit, gimmie normal smithing stone bearings please. I think I know where that one is at. Have to face off against three crystalines for that one.

Yes, I have talked to the Albino Lady, she told me the general location which went in one ear and out the other. I'm glad the item description and the guy at the Roundtable that talks about it just keep saying to talk to her. Dammit, I'm gonna have to look up her voice lines just to remember where she told me to look.

I got him though. I used a magic grease on the sword and got him down with a flask charge left. I kept ****ing up my roll timing on his quick bottom to up swing and then I'd get combo'd to death after.
