back in the (very) old days we actually had to replay RE 1 all the time because we had no memory card on the ps1 ....... somehow we didn't mind. Nowadays i rarely re-play games i've already finished.

I guess you'd be surprised by how many people replay RE games. They are literally designed with replays in mind - unlockablable weapons and items, multiple endings, higher difficulties, better finish times and ranks. Its likely why they are kept so short.

Admittedly though I don't bother replaying as much as I used to. Back in the old the days I must have played through RE1 and RE2 dozens of times.

It takes under 3 hours to finish village on new game+, so having 20-something minutes wasted on the unskippable horror sequence is really annoying.

I don't get the brilliance of the horror section in village, the scripting is so rigid in that sequence, and the way of safe passage through the whole thing might as well have been highlighted by neon signs since it was so obvious.

Not to mention that it gets so tedious on the second playthrough thanks to the rigid scripting not allowing you to save any real time on that level.

Yep, I felt exactly the same about RE7 by the end.

My main concern though with RE8 is if the player movement is still slow and cumbersome like it was in RE7. It was fine during the slower horror elements but once I got to the end of RE7 with more action the gameplay just suffered IMO.

My hope with RE8 was if it has more action that they somehow sped up the movement controls? I mean yeah, its Resident Evil and its supposed to be slow and tension filled but if you go to first person perspective then I feel like concessions need to be made. It was just at times frustrating how slow Ethan was in RE7. Not unplayable but felt lacking. Too often due to the enemies taking several shots to kill, I found myself needing to turn around and run back to reposition or just put more distance between me and the enemy. Felt more like I was fighting against the spacing and movement more than the monsters, rather than in other traditional fps games were you can move around more freely and quickly. But thinking back to the original RE games I guess this was the case with them as well! So they really succeeded recreating the feel of the originals lol.

I know that's the formula of Resident Evil gameplay but IMO if in first person where you can't always have a full view of your surroundings they need to give the player something else to account for dealing with the perspective.

Watching some gameplay footage of RE8 now, and yeah it still looks slow and the enemies quickly get right up into your face. Something to shove enemies back would be nice, or like in RE4 you got a great physical kick attack for stunned enemies when they are closing in.

Eh, definitely getting into nitpicking territory here but it was just a peeve of mine that I had when I otherwise really enjoyed everything else about this new RE style. Still going to eventually play RE Village anyways.

It looks really nice indoors and has some really good scenes.

I have decided to stop playing this and do another thorough play through from the beginning later on with headphones and lights off

The doll house and the 3 sisters were the best parts out of this so far.

EDIT: oh and what Nutcracker said since I missed his post.
What kind of mega gayness is this? Finish the game before you do another playthrough.

I did enjoy RE7. They accomplished a return to form of the original PS1 RE games, just in first person. I suppose it worked for the slower survival horror gameplay, but I wasn't really feeling it once it turned more action focused towards the end. The movement is too slow for the game to allow facing more than 2-3 enemies max at a time. So the last section of the game where they try to ramp up the action was kind of a let down.

If RE8 is more action based I would assume they'd have to tweak the player movement? Maybe I'll watch some early gameplay footage to see how it plays.
Basically, what nutrcracker said. The final RE7 section has action yeah but it's rather repetitive (until you get to the lab, sorta). RE8 has a lot more variety and ups and downs plus weapon, enemy AND location variety. It also has an awesome horror section that will throw you off as an RE fan.

Village has more consistent action. You spend quite a bit of time in the village, coming back there between detours, and enemies return. You scrounge for resources and then go off to another area nearby. But even though it has more action, it's not drab like RE7 was near the end. RE7 was a good intimate horror game for the first 2/3rds or so then it was just a bore fest of samey dull action in the last bit. It went from a 8/10 game to a 5/10 imo.

RE village maintains a good pace throughout, gives you plenty of variety, via different enemy types and locations and bosses, and also adds some horror bits here and there. So early on you know what you're going to get from the whole experience in terms of action but it constantly changes the setting and introduces new characters. I think the action works fairly well in village. It's a bit stiff but enemies are fairly slow and telegraph moves. Variety is probably the #1 reason action is superior in village vs 7.

Good news, if memory serves me that's almost definitely less than 80% of the game. You are probably 60-70% in. That is one of the best horror sections of the game, definitely one of my favorites.

If I replay RE7, I get to the Ship, remember how fkin long and drawn out it is, and put the game aside.

This one though was a very rare 100%er achievement-wise for me.

Well that was a very good game. Has far more variety than RE7, but the flipside of that is that it's not as intimate or personal with its enemies (bosses don't have multiple rounds like in RE7) and it's less about hiding/horror. It's basically like they took RE7 and just made more resident evily. And it works fairly well.

Maybe it spreads itself too thin? Probably not, as the variety is good and it's longer without being boring. Most bosses were pretty good without dragging out too much. It also doesn't collapse in the last third like RE7 did. Has an actiony bit near the end but it's short and sweet.

The bit in the factory against heisenberg reminded me of Quake stroggification or Star Trek borg. They were pretty cool to fight.

Overall quite impressive. Uses sound very well in a lot of cases.

8/10 solid effort and one of the best games this year I'd say.

Game is pretty good at least. I loved the doll house. The giant mutant baby thing stalking you in the house was cool. You can hear it say DADA and ****. So odd lol

Combat is decent, exploration is fine and feels pretty standard RE. I thought the vampire daughters would play a bigger role in the game. You meet them once together when you first get to the mansion. Also I think you avoid one once to get in the cellar area. But then the next time you meet each one it's a boss battle and they're dead. Definitely not enough sexy vampire daughters imo.

Playing this now. I wish the menus were better. So clunky with mouse and keyboard. Also I hate games that can't take a steam screenshot without desyncing the audio in cut scenes. I though that would be fixed by now...

The following updates will be made to the Steam version of the game.

    - Fix issues related to in-game option selection.
    - Correct option text for some languages.

i have to say, an AMD technology is really working well on my Nvidia, with ultra quality FSR adding many fps for virtually undetectable iq difference.

An important update for Resident Evil Village players on Steam:

    - FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) from AMD is now supported. FSR supports higher frame rates on PC for an improved gaming experience.
    - Adjustments have been made to optimize the anti-piracy technology.

The issue isn't Denuvo, but the way capcom's DRM interacts with it. Capcom's DRM also has insert points on some animations, causing the DRM to trigger checks everytime they are played. Some devs include their own DRM on top of Denuvo to make their exe's harder to bypass.

    Great.

In order to thoroughly test the game, we’ve played the pirated version for over two hours and killed numerous enemies. And, surprisingly enough, we did not get a single stutter during these two hours. Even the catacombs at Lady Dimitrescu’s castle, an area notorious for its stuttering issues when killing enemies, was stutter-free.

This could very well explain why Capcom has not commented on the game’s stuttering issues. Over the past couple of months, PC gamers were asking for a fix. And, thanks to piracy, we now know what is causing them.
Earlier today, EMPRESS cracked Resident Evil Village and we can confirm that the pirated version does not suffer from any stuttering issues.

The retail game still has those same fps stutters/drops with enemies/bugs appear and other places too, hasn't been fixed. Now we know why.

Yeah the in game counters in RE games are designed that way for speedrun competition purposes. A lot of people like to compete with others and themselves to see how fast they can finish these games and at better ranks.
