I wish this game is not like Blood porn and Dark shite. As the premise and scenery was engaging.

At the beginning I was disappointed this game didn't seem to have as much intrigue as DS/Bloodborne but having watched a couple of plays... I think the stealth and traversal may make up for it, I am not sure.

I think the art direction of it (what has been shown) feels a little... old by now. Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, Ghost of Tsushima... etc.

You are the one who is probably shi-t at playing those games.

Yes this is actually my most anticipated game right now. Big Souls fan as you can tell from my avatar.

Mods please merge with my original thread to avoid confusion.

You will happy to know its actually quite different.

I have been on media blackout to avoid spoilers of any kind, but I do know it not at all a standard "Souls" type game. Its not even really an RPG with character building, from what I can tell. More like Zelda than Souls. I'm thinking the expected similarities that will remain constant as in most Miyazaki games are the advanced combat mechanics, and cryptic lore delivery.

yeah if your computer believes it resides in japan, you can play it now

opening cinematic is pretty epic. make no mistake, this is definitely dark souls in japan with stealth.

Looks like they've found a way to add mobility to the souls formula without making it sloppy like bloodborne.

                          It looks really neat.

I get the impression there might be a tab bit more hand-holding, regardless of what the devs are saying? And the combat is much more visceral - Off to work

Just asked for a Nioh refund (played less than 2 hours just yesterday, first time since Winter sale purchase) so I can buy Sekiro "25EUR cheaper", lol. But really, didn't enjoy Nioh all that much during the first couple levels. Nowhere near Souls quality. So I said damn it, I'd rather own the better "Nioh" if I have to.

Edit: Damn, didn't realize refunds only apply to less than 2 hours played AND less than 14 days since purchase. Oh well, Sekiro full price it is then.

                                      9.5 @ ign.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a stylish, focused stealth-action take on the FromSoftware formula that evolves in a different and refreshing direction. It may be a bit easier than a Souls game, but it’s something amazing all its own.

I'm only just scratching the fricking surface of this game - been mostly exploring the first few locations (a lot) and learning the combat mechanics (I still suck) - but OMG did From deliver already!

Edit: only thing I'm not liking so far is no backstabs, and you have to hold a fricking button down to collect enemy "souls" (the new currency is called Sen).

3 hours in, taking it very slow, dying a lot even to regular mobs. I have a feeling I'm still approaching the combat as a souls game, and that's costing me. And I played nothing but Souls games the last 6 months. Muscle memory is a biatch and I'm old too.

But I remember I had similar issues when I first played Dark Souls almost 10 years ago - I was quite terribad, and realizing it. It wasn't until I got to Blighttown that I started to actually get good. So there.

The tracking in this game is pretty awful, far worse than what I remember from Souls. It frustrates me at times.

The addition of the grappling hook makes the game easier imo. But if you get surrounded, and you don't retreat via the grappling hook, you are going to die. Speaking of...

Some of the mini-bosses scattered around the world feel more difficult than some Soulsborne bosses. I'd wager less than 10% of the people who buy this game will complete it. Even seen some streamers rage quit a couple times. I always thought that there was no need for a difficulty slider in Soulsborne games, but this game is getting me to think differently about that, as I love everything else about it.

My guess is a lot of it may be due to players trying to play it like a Souls game and need to unlearn that style and get used to the gameplay mechanics of Sekiro. If anything I'm happy to hear they've got new challenges for us rather than same old same old.

I'd suggest to anyone struggling with the difficulty to look up some current playthroughs to gather strategies from the community. Just like all From's other games I'm sure this one is also just a matter of learning its intricacies.

It's like saying "watch some videos of 'guitar hero expert through the fire and flames' and you will eventually be able to do it too". Reality is no matter how much you research/watch/learn, only maybe 5% of the playerbase will have the reaction time and rhythm to pull it off.

We're in the honeymoon stage of this game, it's going to be interesting to see if the playerbase opinion changes as time goes by.
