I have been noticing it crashes mostly on Skellige, but not always. Wondering if the game needs a reinstall. Its been the same install since release day, and with all the patches wondering if something is screwy now. Never installed any mods though.

yep, was gonna suggest trying a reinstall if it crashes with stock. possibly something didn't update properly with the constant patching. Especially with GOG this tends to happen.

you could try the usual deleting the "scripts" folder at The "\Witcher 3\content\content0"

and the "x64.final.redscripts" file if it exists, and then verifying cache or whatever gog galaxy calls it.

other than that, a clean install is the best choice.

I did already try verifying cache in GOG galaxy, but thanks for the other suggestions. I will give them a shot.

Try this... under the option configure in galaxy client turn off the option Game Overlay.
I had the same problem that just freaked me out

Ooh thanks, that is another thing I haven't tried yet. So that fixed the problem for you?

Also, I don't want to try too many solutions at once because it something does fix it I want to be able to determine which it was.

Just played for nearly three hours this afternoon without a crash, so hopefully its fixed.

Decided to do some secondary quests for a change. Some of them are just as good as the main quests. Just finished the quest line on Skellige to help find the heir to the throne there.

Been catching up on contracts as well, but only if they are close to my level. I see little point doing any "grayed" quests now. I'd say while still all very well done with fantastically acted cut scenes and interesting stories, they do still get slightly repetitive with mostly the same types of situations. Although it is interesting to get the occasional new and tough monster, but very few enemies are tough in this game for a level 21 witcher Geralt with all enhanced Witcher gear.

Ran into my first fight in HoS - I coasted through the end of the main game so it was fun to get a challenge

The only time I seem to struggle is when the game decides to suddenly trap me in a close quarters combat situation with a horde of soldiers after a cut scene.

I find myself having to quickly scramble to get some space first so I can plan my attack and its usually quite messy.

How does it comes, that when you need to search the sunstone you get a message, that there's no turnng back from that point on, and you don't receive the message when you start the battle with the wild hunt mage?? It seems that's the endpoint of the game, and that i can't go back. Still need to do the HoS DLC.

You get the msg when you reach a location that if you continue the game state will change and some quests will no longer be finisheable. Not a warning about the endgame.

You can not believe that such a benign thing can make so much trouble.
Was so annoyed that I had thought to leave playing after buying HoS

But when i defeat the "boss" will i still be able to do other quests? Like i've neven encountered the quest with the vampire??

Yes, but only because when you finish the game, the game throws you back to a state before the endgame, so you can do all the things you missed.

So I am wondering how to go about finding the diagrams for the superior and mastercrafted Witcher gears. For the base and enhanced sets, they appeared as treasure hunt quests but I'm not seeing that for the rest of the upgrades.

Without spoiling anything for me, can someone tell me where or how the game drops a hint on where to look for them? Or do I simply have to explore everywhere until I find them?

They are treasure hunt quests as well for them, you can buy the maps from vendors, just don't remember who though.

Oh, thanks. I guess I'll look out for them.

Hmm, did I have to buy maps for the first sets as well? I don't even remember.

you basically get clues to more locations once you find one. so let's say you find a sword in a set. there's a journal entry nearby that will open up one or more locations, and so on.

                                    or you buy maps.

some are placed in main quest areas to get you started.

Without exploration or looking up a guide where to buy all the maps, I don't think you'll be finding them all, I might be wrong though.

Yes, I believe that's how it worked with the base and enhanced versions for the cat, griffin, and bear sets. I have all those treasure hunts listed in my quests. Just couldn't remember exactly how I got them since I took such a long break from this game. So I was trying to remember how to go about getting the treasure hunts unlocked for the next upgrades. Anyways I will now make sure to look for them in blacksmith and armorer shops.

Now that I think of it, I just finished the swords and dumplings quest and unlocked the master blacksmith Hattori. I think I remember seeing Witcher gear notes for sale in his inventory but didn't realize at the time what they were. Will have to check again later.

every basic set has one note/journal at one of the treasure hunt locations.

I've got the base cat set, and enhanced griffin set but nothing pointing me to the superior and mastercrafted sets yet.

If there was a note to read when I picked up the diagrams for those sets then I somehow totally missed them. Unless I'm not understanding your point. I remember seeing notes to read, but I think they just show me where the next piece of that set is.

ill admit my memory is a bit foggy. I remember the basic griffin set. There was one of the places where u had to go that had the final piece and witcher georges journal which led u to the next set

Also you don't need the note/journal to find the pieces. Worst case u can look in the game guide for the location. Quest will still update normally.

Oh yeah, I know. But I never use guides unless absolutely necessary, like for a potential game breaking issue or such.

The base sets lead you to the enhanced sets, but I'm thinking you need to buy the map to the diagrams from vendors, or stumble across them while exploring. Obviously I know this because I've gotten as far as enhanced, but then the game stops holding your hand.

My asking about this was just to make sure I was on the right track as far as what the game's mechanic is regarding finding these diagrams. Pretty sure I know what I need to do next.

Decided to play some lower level quests (involving Triss in Novigrad) for the story aspect. It was cool to get the story out of them but that was about it. At level 22, experience points and challenge of enemies was a complete joke.

I guess its part of my few gripes with the game. How is anyone supposed to do all quests if they wanted to while at the proper level to do them? There are just so many that at some point you are going to be over leveled for certain quests. Or is there a very specific order to do quests in, and how the hell could one actually know or even find them all while at the correct level?

                                                  Comment

Doing all sidequests before advancing the story seems to be the way to avoid being overleveled for them.

                                                    Comment

yep, the main quests give insane XP. even when the main quests were grey for me, i'd still sometimes get 1-2 levels just by completing them. glad I left them for the end.

can't blame them though. they had to cater to the people who only play the main story, and that's the only way outside of level scaling.

And there's mods for people who want to get xp rewards in everything.

                                                      Comment

I certainly played only main quests for a good while, so I guess I screwed myself out of getting much from side quests under suggested level 15 or so.

I guess it seems like they balanced it best they could, but its not a perfect system. As is, I would say it messes with the pacing of the story if you have to take long breaks from the main quests to do side stuff. I mean, you don't HAVE to, but it seems you do if you want to get the most out of it. This is pretty much the main reason I put the game down for so long. I could not get engaged into the story unless I stuck to just main questing.

                                                          Anyone playing TW3 on 4K?

I got a nice 49 in 4K screen this morning and, after getting all my devices connected, I decided to see how the game looks on 4K.

Problem: If I select the 4K resolution in the Video options, the game overscans to where only 1/4 of the game is visible...the top left quarter.

I have scaling set in CCC to Scale to Full Screen size, but have also tried the other options. None of them make any difference.

What I DO see in the Display Management section of CCC is that the 4K screen is ALREADY 4 times the size of my other 3 24 inch 1080p screens. So, is the 4K screen already doing some scaling and I'm only making it try to do more?

                                                          Or?

How to get the game to fit the screen?

                                                          UPDATE: Solved!

I'm leaving all the above for future reference.

The solution is that the screen is ALREADY set to 4K and, when I attempt to change it within the game, it simply increases the ALREADY 4K resolution that overscans the size of the screen.

Is your pc plugged into the right port? If it is like my Vizio tv, only one of the HDMI ports accepts a 4k signal.

                                                              I've updated the previous post.

                                                              I'm connected via a DP->HDMI 4K adapter to my 4K screen.

It was making all kinds of sense to me that I needed to change the in game resolution but, it quite dawned on me when viewing the screens together in CCC that the 4K screen was ALREADY at 4K resolution.

One other matter, though, was getting it set to 60 Hz. CCC would NOT allow me to do that until I first went into the MONITOR settings and set the Hz setting there to 60.

                                                              All is good....so far.

                                                                              Or?

I have desktop set to 4096x2061 but play games at 3840x2061. I have the option to play games at 4096x2061, and it looks slightly sharper, but the performance drop from 3840 to 4096 is quite big for just basically an extra 200 pixels.
