Think ill do the main quest first ive been overlevelled for a long time.

Does anyone know to enter a cave that's on hjdarsafall or w/e its called in Skellige. Its the island where you have the tower mission that appears from nowhere. I found a cave in the ground, if I fall in I die, its got 2 gargoyles in. I cant find a way in.

It's part of another quest on the island, for an obstacle course. There's two parts, that's the second part. Some guy off he main path of the town will give it to you.

My progress update:

~143 hours and still in Skellige. Currently nailing down all those POIs dotted around in the sea. I find them a relaxing break and sometimes I take a route that takes me to an island with very interesting quests. I also started trying playing other factions in gwent. I STILL loot almost everything when guards aren't watching/nearby. I also have the feeling that graphics are improving every patch. It is nice to never dip below 60FPS at max settings and 1440p. Sadly my 980 SLI can't maintain that at 4k DSR but that isn't a big deal. 4k DSR always feels like the icing on the cake.

All in all, having a blast! It is interesting that when I do the POIs, I lose interest quickly but when I do quests, boy it sucks me in!

If you keep playing without ng+ you'll get items you cant use, and you wont gain any xp. Which doesnt REALLY make much difference, but you'll probably have more fun going through ng+

Does skellige have as many quests as the previous zones?

Reached that zone yesterday, and holy ****, the map was way larger than I expected.

It's large, but most of it is water and most of the icons are sunken treasure. It does not have the density of Velen (around the Baron) in terms of interesting and unique points. but there are some pretty good quests in some towns. The Leshen was probably my favorite on Skellige (side quest) and the main quests with the Crach family are good. Even though you can fast travel to the islands, I think they should have compressed it more.

I guess I am one of the few who play this with zero mods. With that said, is there any mod that brings back E3 quality? I am not talking just shaders and colors, but actual texture bumps and particles.

Nope. That stuff was related to a different rendering system. Modders would need source code in order to change the rendering system used in the game to get those effects.

if you play without the minimap, you pretty much have to install friendly HUD mod, as there's no orientation available in the game without keeping on the immersion ruining mini map. constantly opening and closing the big map is not only tedious, but gameflow disruptive. so friendly hud is essential.

plus it adds other great features, like oil charge indicator, meditation configuration, inventory sorting tweaks and default inv page changing, etc.

it pretty much has a way to get around almost every flaw the devs overlooked when designing the interface.

I guess you are selling me on this one. I usually avoid modding because I don't like dealing with incompatibilities with newer versions of the game. But, this one sounds too good to miss...

shouldn't be an issue with this mod. the authoress patched the mod up just a few hours after the 1.11 release.

After installing 1.11, the 3D preview of Geralt in the inventory screen has disappeared.

Apart from that haven't noticed any other issues.

Nevermind, I just restarted the game and he's back. Apparently Geralt disappearing from the inventory is a randomly occurring bug that's been around for a while. Not a big deal.

Hehe, I'm also playing without mods. Didn't find any MUST HAVE mods...I normally install shitloads of mods (fallout/skyrim/skylines, etc) but for witcher stuff on the nexus didn't interest me.

Just got started on the expansion, the new enchanter is a moneysink...I'm 30k poorer and the enchants are crap :P

Lets see if the masterwork ones are worthwhile!

I just picked up the 1,2,3 bundle from Steam. I bought 1 when it launched but remember not getting in to it. I think it was just a combination of performance and game mechanics that turned me off.
Contemplating on playing 1 and 2 however. I think I just might play 3 mostly because I just don;t have much time to play video games. If I was to play 1 and 2 it would be a year before getting to 3 lol.

Indeed it would. i'm at 115 hours in witcher 3, and only lvl16, and never even seen skellige.

I admire the people with kids who actually manage to find time for a game like the witcher. I am not sure i'd be able to manage my time so well.

Yes, not only that but with age it seems just staying interested in a game can be a struggle.

I'm hoping that with playing it on easy(well sword and story mode)I get sucked in to the story and find the drive to see it through.

Finished it this morning, excellent game.

I pretty much did everything I could do; there maybe have been a few incidental sidequests I missed. I wish I knew my time played, but as far as I can tell the game itself doesn't track time, and sadly because I got the GoG version (via nVidia promo) and ran it outside of their client, it wasn't tracked anywhere else.

One thing I found odd from a "video game" standpoint is how much of an afterthought the skills were. I don't think I got to the third tier in any tree and you can equip so few of them that there didn't seem to be much point to getting a lot of skills anyway.

You and I have very different experiences.

Skill wise, it pays to specialize. You use alinged mutagens to get more out of those skills.

Personally, I'm a mage with a bit of swordmaster for one mutagen.

Nope, that's game world time elapsed, not real world time. You will see that advance far faster than real time and jump ahead when you fast travel. It is a little odd that they would have that, yet not track real world time.

Hmm, that has me a bit concerned. It took me at least a year or more to finish the second one, and mostly because I lacked the motivation to keep going. That said, I'm finding 3 to be much more enjoyable overall so maybe that will help.

Finished hearts of stone. it was ok, too many cutscenes and boring stuff for me.

I did enjoy Olgierd as a character and I thought the man of mirrors was real creepy.

Needed more olfieri bad guys!

A few achievments id like to get. I managed to miss buying stuff from the auction house, and don't have a save game near it, so that's killed that one. How are you supposed to do all the games at the wedding? I seem to remember you do a couple and the game moves forward on its own with a cutscene.

Also the one for taking out all the bandits at the bandit camps hasn't unlocked for me, and I have done it, ive re-checked every location no1 there.

About ~163 hours and at what I believe to be the last main quest chain. I finished all contracts and got all known treasure hunts (atleast the four armor sets and weapons). Finished all POIs except two in Skillege which I believe I can reach via a main quest as I couldn't otherwise. I am level 33.5 so I hope I can hit level 35 towards the end of the main quest. Still need to collect remaining gwent cards otherwise all secondary quests are done (atleast those that are listed on my journal).



Apart from finishing my qwent card collection, not sure what else I could be missing before moving on?


Additionally, the game kept getting better and better as I move towards finishing it. Lots of great moments, fun jokes, cool action, decisions,... etc. Gerald really smashes a lot of main characters because he feels more realistic behaviorally.

Even at this point, the game is easily THE BEST GAME IN A WHILE. The definitive benchmark for not only RPGs, but games overall! (ok minus the fighting a bit but it still is better than any RPG out there in that department).

Will hopefully wrap up later today and then go buy me the season pass.

Thankfully most of the cutscenes and story bits were funny and/or well made. And the new bosses were a really positive surprise in terms of mechanics and challenge. I kind of wish they would revisit few of the bosses from the original game in this style, like the Giant in ******** or the ****** vampire. Those enemies deserved a better showdown.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Alright, 173 hours and the main game is finished! All contracts completed, all found secondary quests completed (I believe I missed the DLC Fool's Gold quest which I will complete later today after work), all treasure hunts completed, upgraded wolven gear to mastercrafted as I found it to have higher stats despite no bonuses from skills and it also looks cool at max level, finished ALL POIs (yep!), leveled to 35 at the end and got the BEST ENDING!!!

It was such an adventure. Felt like an awesome TV series with story progression and side events. Everytime I play, it was like finishing an episode of such a series. The characters were so engaging, Geralt was just like a real person and not an actual fantasy hero or more of a real person than a fantasy hero. Dialogue was almost always interesting and never boring. The ramp up to the ending was great. As I kept playing I was telling myself; all past RPGs should have done this and that. The combat, despite overpowering the game at my level, was simple but fun in that I could do a lot of things and was fluid. Mind you this isn't an action game so in RPG standards, this is top notch! Despite people saying it was easy, I still died often. Not Dark Souls often, but often enough to be of normal difficulty. Besides, in 173 hours, how often do you expect to die to call it hard?

The challenge was in the decisions, what will you make? How will you drive the story and what consequences will that have? They are real and they pack a punch. The little details matter when it comes to making decisions.

Playing it on my 980 Ti SLI was perfect at 1440p. 60 FPS all the way! Full eye candy and the awesome soundtrack is the best ever! The environment feels alive with wild animals roaming, trees swaying nicely (maybe overly but still adds to the atmosphere) and the towns/cities active with people that aren't exactly static. I know it feels like a review you read hundreds of times but these findings are well founded in this game. Sometimes I fast traveled and other times I galloped as I liked to enjoy the scenery. Often bumping into side quests that put you in the middle of decision making of a tough situation. The notion of good and bad isn't that strong here. Rather it is Neutral, Lesser Evil and Evil. Even so, the three are so blurred often that it sparks discussion in forums all over. Which is neutral, lesser evil and evil decision?! Love that part!

I played gwent against everyone and despite sometimes feeling having a strong deck, someone comes along and obliterates me with strats that I never thought of. One of the better side games in any game.

All in all, I am having a withdrawal now. It is so strong. Much stronger than the one I had in Metal Gear Solid V (speaking of games finished recently). Will I see Geralt and co again? No more funny and awesome dialogues? No more stories to be experienced? I just bought the season pass at full price from Steam and I do not regret it (I know that devs would get more from GoG but still the next best thing!). I feel I should go out there and tell the developers a job well done. That they made history with this franchise like no other and that their work will be a benchmark for years and years to come. Give them a pat in the back for their gamer support without resorting to shitty money grubbing tactics and that they took their time in making this marvel.

But yeah, you are having that issue because of mods, and even though you deleted them, something might be lingering.
