Not exactly sure what iam doing wrong, but every battle is really difficult unless its against wolves.
Im level 5, and doing the baron quest family matters. The rotfiends I just met on the way just smashed me. I had to the leave the witcher contract with the shrieker as it smashed me, and I had to leave another quest with the werewolf as I had no hope of killing it. Im wearing the DLC temerian armor, Iam using the potions I have, and healing things. Im trying to block, dodge, roll, etc etc and I just get wrecked.

Im on the 2nd difficulty down. Whats going on?
Along with the tip on dodge stepping that I mentioned here, make sure to liberally use the quen spell in the early goings at least until you get the hang of things. Its pretty much like a cheat mode in these games. When it wears off or you get hit, just back off and apply it again. Just don't be too aggressive, let the enemies come to you. You can't lose.
Withcer 3 delivers as I expected. About 50 hours in and only level 10... Have barely progressed through the story. Trying to get through all the level 6 stuff I have sitting in my Quest Log while it is still green.
The Crones/Whispering Hillock(sp) story... wow. I sat there for a good 10 minutes during the dialogue with the tree before I decided which way to go with it. Quite the "lesser of 2 evils" type of decision.

yeah thanks for the tips, im getting the hang of the combat a bit more.
Ive done the werewolf, managed to grab a cursed oil, and used the potion with attack damage, really killed him fast.
The game is pretty impressive. Not 100% sure of the combat compared to skyrim, but its a dam fine game so far.
Steam says im 21 hours and level 6 lol. A few of those are probably paused though.
IIRC without actually playing, with the DS4 controller its tap circle button.
With keyboard I believe you double tap W, A, S or D or hold Left Alt + W,S,A,D.
Dodge step is super important in this game. I hated the Left Alt+WSAD. It was too hard for my hunt and peck typing skills. I bound my Dodge key to mouse 4 and fighting was a lot more fun.
Game is pure art. Voice, story, humour, graphics especially clothing and textures. The music is a whole chapter itself, I don't think I've played a single minute without some wonderful track syncing to my situation unlike Dragon Age:I.
A game worth upgrading for. Actually feel inspired from playing it.

I miss seing Dawn on my Eizo T965 21" CRT with ATi 9700 PRO. RIP.

I initially started playing this game with mouse & keyboard but I thought the controls were just awful.
It plays much better with a controller., and fairly obvious it was designed that way.

Switching signs is another area that can be painful on keyboard. Is that fast with a controller? I use the numeric key to pick a sign. But it can get hectic in battle.

Its kind of moot since everything slows down when you open the quick access menu, but yes its fast.
On DS4 just hold L1 and point the analog stick to the spell you want.
Level 18, still doing stuff in Novigrad and 95 hours in. Love it, just love it! Recently did the on stage quest. Wow, might be a simple idea but the execution, the mood and the setting all perfectly done. Can there be a better hero than Geralt in any RPG?
Seriously, 200+ hours easily.

Upto level 10 now, and feel a lot stronger. Found a few nice swords, and I hit pretty hard now. Completed the quests I was struggling on and done the main quest in the cave with the kiera.
The game has a lot of glitches honestly, but there's just so much ****ing value packed into this game in other regards that its hard to hold them against it.
For example, in my game at least, the armorer icons don't show up unless said armorer is already in my field of vision. Otherwise, I can't tell on the map where ANY of the armorers are except for the one in Crow's Peak. There's also one armorer that I just plain can't talk to most of the time even when I do walk upto him and he's at the shop.
Now Playing: Joe Dever's: Lone Wolf (NS) Final Fantasy World (PS4P)

Don't you have to find the armorers/blacksmiths before their icon shows on the map?
And about not being able to talk to some, I think it depends on time of day. Try meditating until later and then try talking to him.

That bug was supposed to be fixed, but it still plagues me as well. The trick is meditation, but its NOT a time of day thing. Simply meditate, near them and it should work again, but you will have to do this EVERYTIME you want to talk to them. If meditating doesn't work, do it again, it will work eventually.
Never put off tomorrow what you can put off today!
Ahh. Well that's indeed an annoying bug and should be fixed.
Yarp, it's not so bad compared to a couple other bugs we've had in the game so far though. It can happen o three different merchants though, two of which are blacksmiths :/

I wish we could explore those worlds that ciri and geralt jumped through more in like a dlc or expansion pass, but from what I read that is not happening
The one with the poisonous mist was I kept expecting some well camouflaged creature to leap at me at any moment.
Jim Lahey: You know whats at work here? Its **** tectonics. When two **** plates strike and come together under incredible pressure, what happens Bubbs?
Bubbles: What Mr Lahey?
Jim Lahey: ...****-quake.

Yeah same, loved those worlds, but unfortunately, thats not what the story is about.

Cyberpunk will have a Ciri reference I'm calling it now.

Whats up with the town/village notice boards. More letters appear the 2nd and 3rd time I go back to most towns, but don't seem to get any extra quests, etc. What do they do?

They are flavour, if you notice (tehe) the first time you look at a board, 3-4 of the papers are large a4 size sheets, and the rest are small listings. The large ones are the quests, the small ones are just fluff. Once you remove the large notices, the board will fill with fluff, and it changes daily (or weekly, i forget).
Did anyone ever complete the collect em all quest? I've tried looking everywhere and can't find all of the cards. On my second play-through and am being super careful not to miss any cards this time. I love gwent. Originally, I thought it was more luck than skill. But, I've played enough to appreciate it and can beat players that have a much better deck than me now. There is still a little luck involved. The problem with completing to much of the collecting quest is that gwent starts to get a little boring when your deck is so good. Starting over is making a new challenge out of the game again.
