Yes, and you can focus entirely on the main quest and finish that first. In fact the game kinda expects that, because enemies are leveled higher and there are numerous dialogue references to the choices you made after finishing the main quest, especially involving Ciri.

I went back and finished the main quest line before returning to Blood & Wine. I really like how your choices along the way affect the main quest ending.

Also I learned a valuable lesson about trying to court both Triss and Yennifer at the same time.

Not just GOTY, best game I've ever played. I'm going to have major withdrawal once I finish the DLC and side quests.

Nothing. It's a new game but you keep your levels/gear. If you've ever played Dark Souls, it's exactly the same thing as "NG+" in that. New game, same character.

I started a newgame+ a couple of days ago, last time i played was at release. Got a couple of mods, cosmetics only like more blood and the HD textures.

So I finally finished this off at level 50... have nothing else to do but find the rest of the side quests. None are listed on my maps so I may have to go running around to areas I haven't visited yet.

I hadn't used that mod before, so I installed it last night. It's a beautiful game to begin with, so TBH I don't really see a huge difference other than maybe the water looks a bit nicer.

Almost done with all main & side quests in Blood & Wine. Once that's done all I have left are witcher contracts, which aren't very exciting. I'm way too overpowered now for most monster fights.

And to me it seems they added a lot of noise to to the textures. It looks a lot like all the high res texture mods to Oblivion, tons of noise and an absolute eye cancer during actual gameplay because of the texture crawl and shimmering. Great for screenshots though.

You can spot texture crawl on certain stone floor surfaces in Novigrad. You need to stand next to a npc standing still on top of that surface and rotate the camera to notice the effect. I thought it was due to how parallax works, if that is parallax.

Used to photograph textures and mods wayback, so for me higher res is cleaner edges and details / imperfections, not about "ISO" noise. Perhaps some of it gets filtered ingame using AA and motion blur, but then again what would be the point

Good point - I do notice noise on my 1440p monitor but I game mostly on my 4k OLED, where I don't notice any with this mod.

Finished all side, secondary, and main quests. I probably missed picking up a few here and there, but after 120 hours I think I can call it done.

All I can say is...holy crap...I didn't want it to end. I'm tempted to go through it again with New Game+ only this time have a "happily ever after" ending with Tris or Yennifer. As it is, I ended up alone because I was a playa . Hands down the absolute best game ever made. In some ways, the DLCs were better than the main game, if that's possible.

The only real ending is Neither Tris nor Yennifer, and ciri taking on the family business! :P

If you do choose to play a new game plus, i strongly suggest playing it in another language. I know it sounds dumb, but some of the voice actors in the other languages are amazing. Ciri in french blew my mind!

The success of the games has likely massively inflated book sales and made rights to his property more valuable, yet he continues to be a douche going after CDPR because of his own bad decision. I'm sure the Netflix series alone got him a nice pile of cash and that would have never happened if not for the success of the games.

Not sure I would call him a dick yet. Laws are laws. If someone makes many many millions off someone else's creative work...it makes a lot of sense.

The immediate, obvious conclusion a lot of us folks not making millions is that the guy is plain greedy. Nothing about that article says that. It's just a guy seeking compensation within Polish laws for his creative work.


EDIT: Read the article a bit more and saw that he did originally think it wouldn't sell that well. Still, I don't see that as a dick move. Who cares if he was wrong. His work allowed the game studio to create a masterpiece (IMO) and it sold incredibly well. It's not a bad thought that he should profit a bit more off it, and it's within the laws to do so.

I hope he doesnt succeed. They offered him far greater earnings then he took, HE convinced cdprojectred to give him an up front lump sum instead. That was HIS choice. **** him. He made the wrong choice, now he has to live with it. If he gets any more money from cdpr it is no longer a case of cdpr earning off of his successful ip, but him stealing (morally) from THEIR success.

So Poland might have a law on the books that allows creators to get money beyond what was contracted? Really? I can see how that can make things go wrong.

Like say if someone contracts an IP from a creator. They become very successful, and they reinvested their profits so they can grow the company. Then the creator decided to use that law to extort more money beyond what it says in the contract, but the company doesn't have the money on hand because it was reinvested into the company. I could see that company having to either make cuts, or even going into bankruptcy because all of a sudden they have to pay out money they never knew they would have to pay.

If that really is how that law is, then it is silly and needs to change.

Is not fair that the guy that invented all, gets to see others get all the riches based on his work, what CDPR should have done was after the games were successful, voluntarily approach the author and give him part of the profits, not only to show he was wrong in doubting but also as a means of respect, not hide behind a agreement that they know is not fair and just because is totally advantageous for them, they don't want to capitulate.
In the end they will lose, why, because the guy invented the stuff and he can come up with something equally awesome and because of this debacle he will certainly sell all his next work to others, and this will always hunt them.

Of course CDPR can milk the Witcher to their heart content, is a rich world with many ways to grow.

What is funny is that CD Projekt literally offered him a percentage of the profits as a part of their deal with him and he outright refused it stating that it will not be profitable and he wants all of his money now. So he didn't even need to ask for a part of the profits it was literally offered to him during the deal, but he refused it.

Also after some reading, apparently his books were not all that popular in the first place, not even in Poland, it was loved by a niche market. Apparently for most Polish people that knew anything about the Witcher they only knew it as that the bad TV series that didn't last long.

Then Witcher game came out and the Books became much more popular in Poland, and then of course that rolled out internationally where people were wanting to read the books because of the games.

The author got upset that the game images were being used on the books internationally, forgetting that the only reason why his books sold like hot cakes internationally is because of the games, and no doubt using the game imagery helped with that.
Also no doubt he is going to make some good money from the Netflix show, that again no doubt would not have existed if it wasn't for the games.

It's not the source material that makes the videogames good, maybe 95% of them are newly fabricated stories just for the game which are not based on the book. (or very loosely at all) If the author had originally said no outright, CDPR would simply have approached another author (monster slayer books with a broody bearded primary character in a 3 way love triangle are a dime a dozen) and the games would have been 95% the exact same, just with different names to the characters.

I do feel some sympathy for the guy, as he's quite old and doesn't seem to grasp modern day entertainment that well, but his books were not the core reason for the games successes. CDPR should have brought him on board for the third game to write a couple minor stories for the game, the budget for the third game was 80mil+ and maybe payed him 1 mil as recognition for his work.
