you're obviously doing it wrong then. Learn and practice the mechanics which is actually been told at the very beginning of the game......

You won't be able to rofl-stomp everything at the start which is completely normal but if you really find yourself being unable to achieve anything at all then you're simply doing it fundamentally wrong, obviously. Maybe watch some vids to learn a thing or two, i dunno, i personally haven't had that kind of problems.

He must be skipping the entire tutorial at the beginning. If you’re doing that and this is the first time you have played W3 then I suggest you start again and follow the tutorial and also do the combat tutorial. After that you’ll find things are much more pleasant.

Every mission comes with a recommended level. If you're not up to that level, find a mission that does match your level. If you missed this piece of information, I can imagine the start is rough.

If you're playing missions recommended to a level or lower than yours, and you're still getting your ass kicked, I recommend either the tutorial or the books.

Agreed. I found the game super easy even on the upper difficulties. I pretty much run around killing most things with higher level than me without much trouble. The higher ones just take a bit of patience since you pretty much can't get hit or you'll get one shot killed. The ones that are just completely red and off the chart I generally leave alone since they take too long and if you get hit once in the process...it's all a waste.

Ok. I shall try to reduce the queerness while playing this game. Good advise.

Yeah. Great idea! Don't act gay. Genius. Just joking doesn't work anymore.

Please...why is KAC still able to post? What dollar amount did he donate to R3D? Is that why he constantly is banned and returns?

I’m offended by this post and demand action be taken. 2 weeks ban will suffice.

I have long ago (and stand by my decision to) decided that The Witcher 3 is the Best Game I've Ever Played. It has nothing to do with my admittedly robust heterosexuality, but instead to do with the fact that the mechanics of the game are ****ing perfect.

I am not sure why you describe Elex while you post about Witcher 3. I suggest you try getting off the horse and swinging your sword at the bad guys.

Well I could imagine the Witcher 3 is so good it could turn people gay for Geralt, so maybe KAC is saying don't be blinded by Geralt or you won't enjoy the game.

Some of us probably came from W1, W3 might be natural because of that. I liked it: some strategy and elegance/timing was required. Stick with it, lower the difficulty if needed. Try a gamepad if that helps. It's a quality game with content that isn't that common = refreshing.

Shaping up to be one of my favorite games as well. I'm getting a bit overwhelmed at this point though, and haven't picked it up in over a week. I'm 142hrs in, still level 27, and haven't even started either of the expansion packs yet.

I took a break before playing the expansions. Just don't take too long of a break, because the game is daunting to get back into.

All the bad guys are just too difficult to me. I'm one of those people who cannot fight I just try to stand in front of a bad guy and press left mouse button until he's dead but that usually doesn't work. There is probably a more elegant way to fight but I have forgotten the tutorial. One thing that the game designers have missed is that a tutorial in the beginning of the game is not enough because you forget, you need some sparring opportunity in the game too that you can go to in order to further train on the moves.

If you aren't used to this type of combat and games that use it the going can be really rough.

Folks here mean well, sometimes anyway, but forget that not everyone who games plays this type of game. I got destroyed over and over until I quit with the first game in the series, but went back and made myself learn until I got used to it. And it's been worth it.

Make sure you're not going into areas that are not over leveled for you.
Pick an area with bandits or ghouls or something fairly easy, run, swing, dodge and just have fun in general without worrying about beating an area, just enjoy.

Next thing you know you'll be mowing them down. Best of luck with it. It really is a great game once you get it all figured out.

They didn't miss the "tutorial" in the beginning. This "here is how you learn the game" is called White Orchard. A large map that is relatively small compared to the other maps of the game, rife with low level enemies.

If you avoided side quests and went straight to Velen, then I can understand your frustration. White Orchard is very well balanced for beginners, and there's always a difficulty setting to help you out.

I can honestly say that click-click-clicking is a viable way to kill bad guys with your sword in this game.

i would suggest focusing on spells then. use them instead of sword fighting, and invest any skill points you get into quen and igni or aard

also, i dont think oyu have the crossbow yet, but you could instead focus on using the crossbow and maybe throwing bombs too if you like that idea better than magic or swords.

Simple sword swinging and evasion is your best bet. You need to know how the enemy moves then simply press ALT for evade come in swinging then ALT and Rinse and repeat. As Shadow cult says, the 4 spells you have to cast help tremendously.

I have trouble with playing games. This is one of many.

I always go into a game thinking I could interact with what I observe but never thinking the developers would have us interact with their world as they see it or intended us to.

You see some games asking you to repeat fast pressing of key combos and then I expect it to work on another game but it requires much slower button press timing instead to succeed.

Playing some fighting games you're taught to be as fast as possiblle.
Others require specific timing. I hate Dark Souls and the ilk because of it.

Witcher 3 I just see to rush in like a fool.
I have nothing witty to say.

Tried to fire this up to play this evening and the game suddenly won't fire up any more. It acts like it's beginning to launch and I get a blank screen with the thinking/working icon and then it eventually dumps back to the desktop. I'm 150hrs into the game, so this is quite disappointing.

Anyone had this before or have any suggestions on a way I can track down the problem? I've tried verifying the files in Steam, and it said 1 file was missing and it replaced it, but it still won't start. I verified them again and all is well, so I have no idea what gives.

Event Viewer always lists a problem, though I don't really understand how to do anything about the errors that I'm seeing. Google searches on the problem have incredibly random results and none of the things I've tried really help. At first, it listed NvCameras.dll as the problem. I verified the files, and now it lists ntdl.dll as the problem. Not gaining any ground here...

Would really like to do some gaming tonight, any thoughts?

Reinstall drivers is first bet. If you have any mods enabled in Witcher (like texture mods, I know some people run those), I would disable them.

Uninstall drivers, run DDU, and put in the latest set. You're having the strangest issues my man.

I would assume some changes you made from your other thread could be involved with this. I’d try start W3 after disabling some background applications and see if any of those interfere with the launch.

Next step after reinstalling the driver as nunz suggested is to grab the folder which has the installled saves and settings, should be in my documents, and drag it out to desktop and see if the game launches with a new fresh settings file.

Only thing I can think of is reinstall drivers... Not sure why you are having so many problems man...

I was a couple NVidia driver revisions behind, so I used DDU and then installed the latest 197 drivers. Game fired right up after that. Hopefully...no more issues.

It's my sixth highest hours recorded game on Steam, only below games without endings (Rocket League, MotoGP13/14, CSGO, Grand Ages: Rome). And I could've spent more time on the game even... Probably will, if I ever upgrade my PC.

Now 188hrs into this game and working my way through the Blood and Wine expansion. The Blood and Wine content is pretty amazing, and makes me stop now and again to take in the scenery. Game is damn gorgeous.

People recommended to do Blood and Wine last, and now after playing it a bit...I absolutely think this is TERRIBLE advice. Don't listen to anyone recommending to do that. Get in it as soon as your level supports it, maybe even sooner. There are a few things in that expansion that would have been nice to have a LONG time ago in the game, rather than just gaining them when it doesn't matter while I'm finishing up the game. You don't have to do the whole thing, but just poke around in there a little and see what it offers.
