I'm not aiming for constant 60FPS as that's out of my price range, apparently. Only asking if it's worth it to upgrade from a 7970 to a 970, or a 390X maybe, if I want to have something better than my current 30FPS at 1440p.
have you overrided tessellation at 8x or 16x yet?

got WC3 last night and Sey and I were tweaking our graphic settings for that saved file.
Managed to get the game running nice at around 55 to 60 fps with dips to around 50.
Seems legit and it's nice that texture quality and stuff doesn't seem to affect framerate.
Thanks for the save Ganja

Using his save in the forest I kept poking settings until I go it to run decent. Then I ran around in the forest and poked the river ner by to make sure the fps was ok. Was pretty legit :3

A fix for the AMD Radeon graphics cards which faced crippled performance in the Witcher 3 has been found and related to Tessellation performance on cards.

OK I see. To be honest I've turned Hairworks completely off as the performance hit was just too much for such a gimmicky effect that's barely noticeable when you're playing the game, at least to me.

If you're going to spend that much on hardware at least meet the requirements. It may not need that much power for the most part, but you may run into occasions in certain demanding games that it will be running full throttle and push that requirement. Safer to have that power capacity overhead.
It's less about the wattage rating of the PSU and more about the stability of the voltage on the 12v rails, which quality brand name PSUs provide. GPU manufacturers tend to overstate the requirements as sort of safety net, to increase the chances that even if someone has a low quality cheap PSU it might still suffice.
His 500W seasonic should be just fine for one 980Ti, at worst he might need to connect 2 separate rails to each of the 8-pin power connectors on the card. That said, I accept no responsibility if you blow up your PC and shut down the electrical power grid on your entire block.
Replaying Witcher 1 and I'm pleasantly surprised at how the game makers kept true to the layout at Kaer Morhen from Witcher 1 to Witcher 3. The little details in the structure that were kept through Witcher 3 is astounding.
Unlike Dragon Age Inquisition, who for some reason completely redesigned Highcliff castle and surrounding town where it beared absolutely no resemblence from Origins, not even in layout.

Stupidly took a long break from this game when I got the XB1. Jumped back on this weekend as I'm up at our cottage with just my gaming laptop. It sucked me right back in like I never quit playing.
I'm playing DS3(first installment I played) on the XB1 currently and I have to say W3 is leaps and bounds more my style. It's just so immersive and open. IMO just the best game ever made.
Has anyone played both the PC and console version? I may pick it up on the XB1(like the achievement system ) and give it another run through. There's so much content in this game that it would be easily playable again like it was the first time.

Graphics for the new area have been improved and CDPR was thinking if they should replace for example the grass on the WHOLE map with the new, better grass. A joke was made that the improved graphics now look better than what we saw at the E3 2014 trailer ;-)

Blood and Wine includes over 90 new quests and 40 new points of interest. It also introduces a dynamic system, where interacting with an area's main POI affects adjacent points -- for example, killing enemies in their main hideout lowers their numbers in surrounding camps. Additionally, there will be 14,000 new lines of dialogue, which is 8,000 more than the previous expansion.
New gear and monsters include over 30 new weapons, 100 individual pieces of armor, and more than 20 new monsters. No specifics were announced.
12 new mutations were detailed, however, and players will be able to unlock them in New Game Plus. The mutations include one that causes enemies to freeze and die instantly when knocked by Aard, one that makes enemies to explode when they're killed with a sign's critical hit, and another that heals and grants you damage immunity when you lose all of your health.
Other additions include the New Game Plus maximum level increasing to 100, a new "Skellige" Gwent deck, and a redesigned user interface. Players will also be able to change the color of their gear with armor dyes that can be obtained through merchants, recipes or loot. However, these can only be acquired in Toussaint.
