I'm not implying he won't release a functioning game. I'm not even implying it won't be great. What I am implying is that his 'perfect world' as he envisions it in his mind will never mature past some very intuitive wishful thinking. Its not like this guy is the gaming equivalent of Einstein or Galileo. He's just another developer who has a couple of popular games under his belt

In a thread on their forums discussing the dogfighting module I posted that the possibility of a delay until next year should make people re-think their stance on the game, given that CR adamantly stated that it would be out before 01JAN "no matter what". If the delay happens he SHOULD lose some of the faith he's been given, as he is a veteran developer and SHOULD KNOW BETTER than to make an absolute statement like that without a finished or near finished product in hand. I had a few people agree with me but HOREEEE-SHEEAAAT did people jump on me after that. From "oh boo hoo" and "give him a break you whiner" etc. on down the line. People need to get off Chris Robert's "D" and take a step back, looking at the promises made as if it would be acceptable from any other developer.Originally posted by OzzieblokeI mean, yeah, sure, there's benefits to a shaved asshole. Sure, it's a game from "gamers" and "space lovers" too, but they should be accountable with our $$.
Funny how misplaced our society values are today. Someone cut you off in traffic and ITS HELL ON EARTH, but oh boy, that beloved dev can sure delay everything because hes a nice guy.Having kids kills your gaming :(

That aside, this is sort of a c'est la vie kind of situation. Nothing that can really be done to change CR's development schedule and I feel perfectly happy to let others keep piling money on the game.THG is to computer hardware what MTV is to music.

my understanding is that the possible delay for the dogfighting module is only for the player vs player part, it's still on schedule for the player vs ai part.I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

Hangar Patch 9
Greetings Citizens,
We’re pleased to announce that Hangar Patch 9 is now available! The big news with today’s patch is that the Hangar now features client-side persistence. That means that the changes you make to your hangar are now permanent: you can change your ship loadouts in the holotable, log off and come back without having them reset!
The bulk of today’s changes are “under the hood.” Patch 9 includes a number of bug fixes, but more importantly it sets the stage to incorporate future hangar changes and other Star Citizen modules currently in development. We know it’s not as exciting as a new ship, but it’s essential for what we have in the works. Another public-facing Hangar patch is coming before the end of the year, and it promises to include more for Citizens to play with.
There are still a few surprises to be found in your hangars today. We’ve added a trophy case to every hangar, which displays several possible things. If you have a Gold Ticket on your account, it will now show up there, as will the RSI Zeus model and the 2943 Gamescom trophy. Your fish tanks have also been given a big makeover!
If you’re interested in helping us test the latest changes, try changing our ship loadouts and then logging back on to see if they’re correct. If you run into any issues, please report them to the Hangar Bug Report forum for our QA team to investigate. Note that the changes are currently local, so you can’t carry them over from one computer to another. Server-side persistence, a must for the finished game, is in development now.
I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

Yay. A trophy case, a revamped fish tank, and the beds work on the Constellation. SOOOO much progress since the last patch...
Oh yeah, and client side persistence...not server side yet though...yay. They should have just rolled this patch in with the next one that's supposedly coming out in December that might actually include some content.Originally posted by OzzieblokeI mean, yeah, sure, there's benefits to a shaved asshole. No dink, I know that's not how game development works. However when you have 34+ million dollars you put out better updates than "Here's a trophy case and a fish tank, be happy". Especially when CR said the DFM will be out this year "No matter what" and now it looks like it'll just be some lame@ss firing range. I expect developers of his caliber to make intelligent decisions and statements, which so far he has not done (this patch, his statements around the DFM, etc.).
Instead of the "content updates" of "hey, since we don't have any WIP to show you we'll tell you all the details about this star system...which we can't show you...because it doesn't exist yet" they put out some pictures of the ships being built, or in-engine shots of the star systems they are creating. I don't gargle any dev's balls, I hold them to their word and if they don't meet it then I lose faith in them.
...and yes, when you pledge over $1k like I have I expect some fking quality updates.Originally posted by OzzieblokeI mean, yeah, sure, there's benefits to a shaved asshole. But get a little sweaty and try and blow a fart. It just sits there like a bubble. No hair to break the seal. Feels weird.

I feel, now that I've read the note, that it's the right decision, and he's right about more then a few "wanting" the game to fail. But what that really means, is there's a whole heck of a lot of us, that want it to rock, and be a huge EA smashing success!
I hope this game blows all other games out of the water in sales when it comes out, and I hope there's months, not hours, MONTHS worth of time to be spent in the game. I want to have a good game to play for awhile that will keep me interested!
Really, I wish the hanger update would include new ship models to screw with, but I'm not getting the impression that will happen. Who knows though, it would be a nice surprise! Specially that merchant man ship I bought on the 26th, I hope that thing is a big ol' beast.

You can fault RSI for not anticipating they would encounter the same show stopping difficulties, otherwise point the shamey finger at Crytek.

That's not far from the truth. If the files in the hanger version are the latest since patched. The ships in there are barely finished, let alone be something flyable without hacks from other crisis vehicles.
Basically dogfighting will be 2014, single player campaign will be 2016-2017 my guess, and multiplayer will be 2018-2019.
My guess but wouldn't be surprised.Fantards the scourge of the universe:

but other than that, give them a break, if you follow the RSI site and forum you can see that the team are actually active in dealing with the community, far more than typical corporation funded game dev which is basically little to nothing.
and while I agree that the project seemingly a little over ambitious, I have confidence in them and I acknowledge that the hangar module is something new I haven't experienced before, I mean look at it this way, would Polyphony Digital release pre alpha garage module for Grand Turismo 7 fans? nope, they would simply completely silent about the subject, same thing with GTA VI, or Mass Effect 4 etc.
and again while it does seem a little over ambitious project, I'm confident it can be done with such massive fund they have already, and that I'm guessing that the coding part will still below something like a DCS study sim project; if a smaller (albeit very experienced) team with much smaller budget can boast an accomplishment that their sim is actually more complex than the real military level sim, then surely CIG teams can do this game.Last edited by Napoleonic; Dec 19, 2013, 01:54 AM.I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

That is good and bad...maybe they CAN deliver, but it might take a long time. Nowdays no games take that long to go retail because they need to make $$$, since they already made a fair amount of $$, it's a different logic.
I've pledged 40 or 60 recently, EVENTUALLY I think it will be worth it!Having kids kills your gaming :(

Minecraft was also in development for ages (basically still is in development). I think that is probably what the development of SC will look like. Starting simple and gradually building with each release. Could take 5 to 10 years for the game to be feature complete.THG is to computer hardware what MTV is to music.

The decision to junk Crytek's "back end" is an opportunity to rethink the massively part of MMP. In turn this will define how sexy your space battles will be in Squadron 42.
I don't care how it all looks if it turns out to be no better than Star Trek Online where everything is reset five seconds behind you (which you can witness if you literally look behind you) and nothing exists five seconds ahead of you. STO's multiplayer and single player experience suck equally because the game play is the same.
And, yeah, sounds like they need to hire more mesh wranglers to pump out those ships on an accelerated schedule. Good thing cost is no hindrance.

My suspicion has been that the first version of DFM would be bare empty space that a small number of ships can fly around in and shoot at each other. Also, the AI is almost certainly not ready if they don't even have the DFM put together (seems like it would be difficult to develop and test AI without the DFM.)
So basically, a single player DFM would probably be just a big empty space for you to fly your ship around. If I were CR, I wouldn't want to take time away from other tasks to release that either.THG is to computer hardware what MTV is to music.

CR should just stop releasing any info at all until he has something ready, because it seems every time he or someone on his team opens their mouth they end up shooting themselves in the foot. My faith in the project dies a little every time they release an update.
Edit:
At least Elite: Dangerous is coming along nicely. Should be able to play that beta early next year.Originally posted by OzzieblokeI mean, yeah, sure, there's benefits to a shaved asshole. But get a little sweaty and try and blow a fart. It just sits there like a bubble. No hair to break the seal. Feels weird.
