Just incase there are some people that are interested in this game, I'll sum up the latest news about the game, or you could look at Star Citizen Con 2013:

Anyway, here is summary of some of the news from it:
The Retaliator Heavy Bomber and the Gladiator Bomber are up for sale (again) until Monday, and the Aurora variant and the Hornet variant will be up for sale also, until Monday.
The Avenger Advanced Hunter is also up for sale now.
The Avenger (for those who have pledged for it) and the fish tank will be in the hangar after next update(anytime soon).

Is it just me or does the Freelancer design seem to take some inspiration from Firefly?

Edit: looking through all the ships makes me want to pull out my wallet. On the other hand, if the game isn't fun enough to warrant earning better ships through gameplay, then the better ships aren't really worth it.

Well, I don't know what inspired the design, but there is a lot to read about it on their kickstarter update pages. Early in the campaign they had two different designs for it and let their backers vote on which design to use ...

So...question before I go spending mass amounts of $$$ on this game...if your ship gets blown up in game, will that $45 I spent to buy the ship be gone as well? Or it is it a ship gets blown up it'll respawn in your hangar just like before type thing. Any ideas?

Any idea how much credit you get for melting down an original Aurora, from the kickstarter? Also not clear how big the difference between the MR and LN is. The description makes the MR sound more cargo oriented while the LN is more about combat. Anyone know if the LN retains the ability to carry freight containers?

I wish there were better stats on the ships or that there would be someone way of taking them for a test spin before the deal with free insurance expires. I would consider a 300i or Avenger, but it seems silly when no one knows how good any of them are going to be relative to the Aurora models. (It also makes it harder when you don't know whether or not the game balance will make hulling cargo fun/profitable or what sort of combat missions will be available.

BTW, have they said what ship noobs or bankrupt pilots will have access to once the game officially launches and how insurance will work for them?

From what I understand. If you have no ship and no money you can run missions for NPCs with a ship that they provide until you have enough money to buy your own ship.

I'm pretty sure I have read that the sale should have ended on friday, though, they have changed their word in the past, so who knows when it will end?
It seems that the sale of the Hornet variant is now supposed to beginn on tuesday, if you believe what the guy in this thread says, for instance, though no official word of it have been released.

That and the dude is cruising around with the door on the ship open, yet he didn't get sucked out? I couldn't play that mod.

I'm pretty sure the actually game will have better attention to such details though. Planets will feel proportionally correct, and if you forget to close your door before taking off it'll be a really short trip.

you can survive in space without a space suit for 2 minutes before irreparable damage occurs.
although you won't be concious and it will be painful as the water from your eyeballs and mouth boils away

The flight model looked really bad. Also, whatever was going on with the glare off the windshield looked terrible.

I am glad it is an unofficial mod and hope it has nothing to do with the final state of the game.

I asked about that, Apparently Star Citizen is handling this by having instanced sectors that load seamlessly when you get to the edge of the largest map size that Cryengine supports. So each star system can be huge. You won't be able to go near planets yet though other than landing at fixed points.

No, if you get blown up in space you get the ship back if it is insured. You always get your ship back no matter what as long as it is insured. You may lose cargo in low sector space depending what type of insurance you took out on the cargo. Same goes for any none standard parts / weapons. Ship insurance is a minimal cost so there is no reason not to be flying around without insurance and standard insurance lasts for months and can be renewed. Losing a ship doesn't void your insurance either, just the more you lose a ship in a given period the longer it takes to get a new one.

If you are without a ship for any odd reason you can rent one, or take out a bank loan or borrow one from someone else or be crew on another ship for a while to earn some money. Additonally earn money in the arena, or in the FPS combat bits I would assume also.

So all in all it is a pretty fair system.
