10% seems really high, is that actually true?

They are doing a live stream/chat right now on the main rsi website.
They just said no subscriptions, but there will be microtransactions, however if you are good at the game you won't need to spend real money (maybe you make plans that new players spend their money on or something like that). Though, if you want to pay your way through you can do that too.

I am stoked for the single player game.
The dynamics of the multiplayer side remind me to much of EVE, but with the developer selling credits instead of Chinese gold farmers. I couldn't handle my super expensive shiny new ship getting blown to oblivion. Definitely not interested in laying down a bunch of money on digital credits.THG is to computer hardware what MTV is to music.

So I'm pretty stoked for this game. So far it sounds like my dream game, literally.
I do have my doubts though. I've not pledged any money, though I really want to. I'm considering the Digital Freelancer ($125). However if this game turns out to be a flop, doesn't deliver as promised, then I'll probably feel incredibly robbed. I'm not big on pre-orders, I much prefer reading feedback on a game and then making a purchase, instead of pre-ordering and hoping you don't get shafted for doing so.
It seems like Chris has a lot of passion invested in this game, and so does his team. That and the fact they've exceeded what they hoped to raise also encourages me- every penny extra now is just icing on the cake, right?
Anyhow- bump for this older thread. This game deserves a lot of attention and community-generated hype, imo. For those of you whom have pledged, mind sharing at what level you pledged? Just trying to get a feel for who is feeling just how confident in this title (based on pledge amount) and nothing more. Not trying to be rude or anything, however if you don't feel like sharing no biggie.
If you haven't pledged- why not? I'll pledge when the game comes out by buying the game IF it lives up to how it looks and isn't bogged down by bugs/control issues."Ok to lose to opponent, must not lose to fear!"

However there's some big money being thrown at this, a lot of the marketing is free because of hype generated by the community, no money going to the publisher as that's being done in house (right?), all of that ~$8 million is going into development costs and for a PC only title that is a substantial amount of money.
The attention to detail, the ability to board and explore ships and space station, explore the galaxy and find new and wonderful things, explore planets- it's all so enthralling! I really want this to succeed, which is why I'm leaning towards pledging!
Yet the claims are great, the possibility of this only actually being a fraction of what Chris hopes it to be is very real.

If they make it the worst they could it will still be better than 99% of the **** games out there.”Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” - Albert Einstein

If you played freelancer, Chris talked about how NOT finished that game was to his liking, and that he would of rather taken more time to put in the stuff he wanted. With this game, not only will it be far more advanced graphically, but Chris will have the time to put in what he wants, and not have to rush it according to microshafts demands...this will be a great game!

Star Citizen raises $9 million through crowdfunding
The year is 2053; the world is on the brink of financial and social collapse. It started innocuously enough. Star Citizen – Chris Roberts’ multiplayer space sim – took to Kickstarter, making a healthy $2,000,000 from backer pledges. But the money kept pouring in through the game’s website at Roberts Space Industries. By the end of April 2013, Star Citizen had raised a staggering total of $9,062,402.
“Great,” we collectively thought, “$9 million is enough money to make a really good space game.” But it didn’t stop. People kept throwing money at the chance to trade, smuggle, pirate, bounty hunt, and battle throughout a universe-sized sandbox of spaceships. The stock markets tanked, countries collapsed, the team at Cloud Imperium Games were cloned multiple times to keep up with their increasingly ludicrous development promises. On the plus side, we do have a really good space game.
—END TRANSMISSION—
Well that was weird. Anyway, Chris “Wing Commander” Roberts’ Star Citizen has now raised over $9 million through crowdfunding.
To find out why that’s good news, and almost definitely not the precursor to the eventual downfall of Earth civilisation, check out our recent interview with Roberts.
Thanks, Gamespot.

Anyhow, have yet to pledge but I'm tempted to. I guess it's difficult for me to pledge cause I don't really "early adopt" anything- games, hardware, I always wait for feedback before making a purchase. Don't want to get burned.
Still undecided obviously, but it is encouraging to see so many people support this game. Makes me feel better that if I do pledge, I wont be let down or disappointed.Originally posted by Akumajoa prime time magnifying glass of clusterfark shatstorm brewery.Originally posted by wabbitslayercongratulations on the anniversary of your emancipation from the Great Uterine Squeeze.Originally posted by swinglineThere are two types of people in the world: those that are humble and those that will be.

Definitely keeping an eye on this game, but I still hesitate to put money down with it so far out. Sounds like they got plenty though, and I can wait...Perky McGiggles
