Questioning why they are spending so much money on what is essentially unnecessary fluff to produce a good game is bitching? This game is 100% crowd funded so don't you think it at least begs the question?
2) Dentists and teeth whiteners are way too good in this future.
3) Some of the glitches and artifacts were so obvious I wonder if they put them there on purpose just to say, hey work in progress!
I can't help but 'raising a thumb up' for derek smart for one thing though, he's certainly an expert at black campaign, he should've signed up for US electoral campaign job than making a game
that being said #3 is true, the graphics lack polish and there are many visual bugs on there

what unnecessary fluffs? the holywood talents? I swear some of you already infected with 'the smartassery'
for one, it looks great, two... you are forgetting that it is also an investment, big names draw attention so people will be more interested at buying the actual game when it released.
of course it's risky, as is the whole project, but that is the point.
I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

How much did you spend on this game that you're so confused you contradicted yourself in the very next post!
Maybe you should just chill on this one...I'm not on some hateful quest here.

I'm not contradicting myself the lack of polish I refer was about the unofficial (or rather not officially released) squadron 42 campaign gameplay demo video
as for the comment toward you, I said it looks great refer to the gary oldman video and that such names draw attention for the masses, I also think the official gameplay demo video looks great.
nope, not a contradiction
only spent like $110 for the game, because originally I wanted the avenger with LTI but wasn't available when I first backed the project so I went for $45 aurora lx, later I met a guy in the community who were selling the avenger with LTI so I bit.

Celebrity voice acting was the $5 million stretch goal. (Celebrity voice-acting for Squadron 42; we will bring back at least one favorite from Wing Commander!)
No one should be surprised they added a few more recognizable actors now that they're at $91 million.

This game sold itself. It is highly anticipated, publicized and had the necessary funding already in place without adding all these extra famous actors. Wouldn't you rather they spend the money and resources on creating the actual or better game itself? I understand the advertising aspect of doing it but this seems grossly excessive and unnecessary. Again, I hope those that have backed this kick-starter get the game that was promised sooner rather than later, but there are some serious red flags here.

Maybe they hope to draw enough new funding to make up for it?
What has given them an obscene amount of money so far? Not an actual product, just the image of a product they have marketed. So what do you do to earn even more money?
Imagine if Duke Nukem Forever had been crowdfunded throughout its development, they'd have surely made more cash on development hype than the disappointing final product...

To be honest, I don't know what they're going to be able to deliver at this point. The early alpha footage that is out looks promising but it's hard to tell how expansive or polished the actual game will be. They say 2016 for Squadron 42, so at least it's not that long of a wait to see what they have planned/finished. That star map has plenty going on with it though. Not sure how much of it will be playable in the first chapter.
They started to show some FPS gameplay, but actually never showed anybody die?? They just cut to the outlaws, who look the same, and then took them outside.
Nothing there really allayed my fears and it has a long way to go. The face stuff looks expensive, the actors look expensive. It just seems to have an unrealistic scope and is hunting for perfection.
Probably won't allay your fears, but they showed some actual combat in the press demo. I think in the live demo the pirates just slaughtered the Constellation crew super quick, which combined with CIG's trademark terrible camera selection, meant you didn't get to see much.
BTW, is it just me, or did it look like that guy just shot one of his teammates?
Still not concerned until at least 2016. Just looking for any kind of substantial new game play update between now and then. Looks like AC 2.0 is next on the list, which would do the trick for me.
I wasn't so crazy about the referral program. I believe in CIG and like the current gameplay, but they really need to work out the lobby bugs before I am comfortable recommending the game to more casual gamers. Once they do that, I think the game as it stands would be worth $45 for people that are into the current Arena Commander gameplay.
Oh god that horrible movement! It's so clunky, I ****ing hate that ****.
So sad that I payed money into this. I'm going to hate this game when it comes out.
I quite agree. Something like this takes 5-7 years to get the base game up and stable. Unfortunately we didn't see any of that, which only flamed the fires. Did they allow the press to play the game behinds the scenes off camera?

LOL. Where most doubters go with the boring old "this game is never going to come out" tag line; you go with a statement optimistic enough to say it will be released, but pessimistic enough to believe it will be terrible. I love it.
Personally, I believe it will eventually be great. It isn't like the first release of AC wasn't pretty "meh" worthy.
Just to jump in on the discussion I personally think the main issue that is going on at the moment is lack of focus with the development they keep breaking off to do separated modules to showcase features which amount to nothing more then technical demos which is not what you normally expect from early access development testing or at least what has normally been the staple of early access which is to play the game in its current state till full release, but from what I've seen there is no game just an engine and some demo modules which is poor practice imo.
Edit: I missed the controversy going on atm but I still think development wise its not going so well.
Just skipped around the 2 hour con thing man are the animations rough as hell. I saw dudes sliding on the floor. Whats up with the FPS stuff too was he just shooting random NPCs that were running a set path? They didnt even turn around and shoot back. Mouth and voice sync seem to be off but I am not sure if that was because of the video or the actual game. Oh and the performance looks abysmal. Yes the video is a 30fps youtube stream but you can tell when a game is hitching even then,
Still nothing there that will make me believe this will be out anytime soon and it still looks like they have small pieces of a game but nothing else.

The FPS characters were all player controlled.
The Gary Oldman scene looked good to me. They said the characters for the SQ42 ship tour used a lot of place holder assets. Presumably animations are still being worked on.

I imagine this is part of why the decided to ditch the FPS module and go for AC 2.0 which will be a sort of mini persistent universe that they can build on.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are also not feeling some real legal pressure to get it out. The lawsuit DS is threatening might be frivolous, but it is real enough that there is a chance it won't get dismissed outright. DS has the time money and inclination to be a total PITA.
Roberts Space Industries is the official go-to website for all news about Star Citizen and Squadron 42. It also hosts the online store for game items and merch, as well as all the community tools used by our fans.

Looks like the FPS module isn't actually canceled.
How late have the much lower budget kickstarter titles ended up being? At the end of the day the scope for this game is much larger than the original kickstarter. It shouldn't be any surprise that the game is going to take quite a long time.
What was the original scheduled release for torment? That looks like its going to be at least a year late.
Double Fine's title still isn't complete.
Wasteland 2 was well over a year late and just now has a patch on the way that'll hopefully make it the game that people were hoping for.
Project eternity was pretty late and from what I hear was pretty much released in a beta like state. Although for Obsidian that wasn't a surprise to anyone.
Oh, the eta for grim dawn was over two years ago now. lol
This game has a significantly higher budget than any of those.

Significantly higher budget but also significantly more people working on it as well.
Cool article that describes how they get such high detail in-game models in SC. (Not written by a CIG employee, but a CIG technical artist said the article is accurate.)
If anyone happens to have plans to create a new SC account, you can get a small bonus by using a referral code. You can read more about the program here https://robertsspaceindustries.com/referral-program .
my referral code: STAR-CHBR-PW2L
Full Disclosure: I also get a little something when someone uses the code.

Since when are games with a budget that large being finished in 2-3 years? The scope of the game is significantly larger than any of the kickstarter titles that I mentioned.
The game that started the kickstarter craze still isn't complete...
I just think that it might be a little early to start the doom and gloom.

The complete version of Broken age got released in April this year.

Still waiting for Space Venture, but 2 of the 3 guys working on it had some fairly big real life problems. They say all 3 guys are back on top of it, but the release is still a ways off.

I dont think so. Especially when Roberts himself sets his own deadlines. He is the one constantly missing them. Its not like he has some publisher breathing down his neck or anything(which actually might be good in the case of this game). If you needed more time stop pushing back dates and just say you need 2 more years instead of "its coming in the near future." Its all about how you handle things and they arent handling certain things properly.

Show me a dev that doesn't suck at deadlines and I will show you a unicorn.
Though I sure wish he wouldn't announce deadlines.

Dont know about devs but Roberts is the top man so he should be enforcing his deadlines. Its his job as the president/guy in charge of everything to do so. Ultimately he is the one responsible for all of the self imposed deadlines. He should try and scale back how many different things they are working on simultaneously so they can get one substantial module out. Push all of S42 out and then work on all the other **** or vice versa. I know he has a vision for this grand game that hasnt been done but seriously one thing at a time.
I was discussing this over dinner last night with some of the guys I work with and we basically agreed that they have done it wrong.
They had a goal, a plan and scope for a given amount of cash.
Instead of going 'cool, we got more than we expected, lets do the original plan and then expand on it...' they basically went "holy ****! we have all the money in the world! lets set the plan on fire, massively increase the scope and go mental!".
Honestly, if I was a backer I think I'd be every right to be a bit pissed that the thing I signed up for has, for all intents and purposes, been thrown out and a whole new product is being made instead which is going to take much MUCH longer.
You can witter on about 'vision' and 'scope' and all that but at the end of the day they sold one dream and are now (continuingly) selling another (and if you agree with those ship prices then you need to go ahead and replace the captain of your brain ship because he is clearly drunk at the wheel...).
Games get delayed, we all know and (somewhat) accept this, but this has been a complete change of scope and plans... and they have done it wrong frankly.
I agree with what you just said Bob. I'm glad I didn't back this game. I'll still buy it when/if it's released, but I'm glad I didn't sink any cash into this before hand.
