Welp, I finally made an order for the Mustang Alpha starter pack because there are worse things I could have wasted my money on.
Either I'll get in on an awesome spacesim one day, or be a part of history when the shitstorm starts. I really do want to see SC succeed because it could be solid even if it doesn't live up to everyone's expectations, though I am still very skeptical.
If you want some great guys to fly with, I highly recommend Versecast.org . We have meetups every Sunday night 6 pm PST.
Actually from what I understand a couple of the anonymous sources from the article are willing to come forward and give a legal deposition. Maybe ex employees?
My understanding is that the Author said they were willing to come forward in the article, but said she chose to keep them anonymous for their own protection. Kind of reads like BS to me, but whatever.
IMO if they dont release a sizable chunk of the game that is playable to backers at the con/during the con/shortly after the con then things will begin to heat up more.
As long as the average stays above around $2 million/month, I don't see them having to make any huge cut backs. Even with an average of $1 million/month, which would for sure require job cuts, it seems like they could keep development going. Their is also CR's and his co-founder's personal wealth, which I could see them digging into, as the complete crash of this project would be a pretty big reputation killer (but that is totally hypothetical.)
I guess I have some degree of concern right now, but I think it is totally premature to fear that the sky is falling.
After all this, I think I will go ahead and finally back Star Citizen.
The reason? I don't want to play the other mediocre crap in this genre if SC does not succeed.
No fkcs given, drop the game or deal with the **** storm.
Agreed.
"We build the best damn Internet spaceships blah blah blah"
Uh huh...and you just keep pumping them out to raise more $$$ for the new crowdfunded version of DNF / Daikatana of this generation.

There is definitely something about shiny spaceships and explosions that makes me have a deep desired to throw money at things. Somehow, I think if I had the money to burn, I could throw a lot at this game and not feel the slightest bit bad about it. Fortunately I got a wife to keep me in check.
But truthfully, as I've said, I hope this thing succeeds in some form.
I think anyone would have to be criminally insane to hope that it fails.
I hope that they at least manages to release squadron 42.
SQ42 is what I originally pledged to the Kickstarter for. It is still a big part of what I want, but I have started having a lot of fun flying in Arena Commander with some guys from my org.
If it hadn't been for the long wait, I probably would have just played through SQ42 and moved on. For better or worse it is taking its sweet time, but at least it got me to get involved in the community and meet some really great people.
Teaser was bad honestly, they better blow the doors down on revealing some cool stuff, otherwise this is looking like a bad end of the year for Cloud Imp.
Hopefully they can do a good FPS module, considering it's CryEngine 3.
They rewrote a lot of the bits that handle the shooter stuff, so who knows.
Teaser wasn't the best lol
I think the teaser is supposed to be showing off how the weapons move. One of the the big goals for the FPS module was for the first person view and the view by a 3rd party to be synced for all character animations. In most first person shooters, the position of your weapon and line of sight from the first person perspective doesn't match up with what your character model is actually doing. They wanted to fix that.
The teaser seems to be focusing on showing how characters and weapons move, so I just imagine that is what the point is supposed to be, otherwise it isn't very impressive.
Well........I watched the presentation all the way through the cake cutting. All I am going to say is I'm very concerned for those of you that put more than the normal cost of a regular AAA game into this kick-starter. I hope you get an actual game someday.

Every time I see this game I'm surprised by the stark contrast between the quality of the assets such as models, textures and particle effects and the animations of organics including first person movement. The hell is wrong with their animations?
Jim Lahey: You know whats at work here? Its **** tectonics. When two **** plates strike and come together under incredible pressure, what happens Bubbs?
Bubbles: What Mr Lahey?
Jim Lahey: ...****-quake.
They started to show some FPS gameplay, but actually never showed anybody die?? They just cut to the outlaws, who look the same, and then took them outside.
Nothing there really allayed my fears and it has a long way to go. The face stuff looks expensive, the actors look expensive. It just seems to have an unrealistic scope and is hunting for perfection.
I watched the full live presentation and thought it was all pretty cool.
They have a lot of work to do but I like where they are going. It is just a question of delivering. Still not going to start worrying until at least 2016.
I would rather pay 50 good voice actors with no name, than a few Hollywood people who will likely cost a fair bit.
I was watching that part of the video where Chris was in the studio with all those famous actors to capture their movements for animation and my jaw dropped in disbelief at thinking how much those actors, that studio and all that state of the art equipment must be costing them. This is a game right, not a movie? This guy should NOT be in charge of spending, period.

it's an MMO anyway, what MMO deliver smooth char animations? there always be connection lags.
I'm not seeing assets quality contrast, sure it's not 100% consistent but again what game achieved 100% quality if not prerendered? even holywood AAA prerendered CG don't always deliver 100% consistent quality.
I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port
