building their own engine would definitely make this game can only be released in 2020 or something
If they had been willing to give up some graphical fidelity, I think there are some engines that could have worked better

At least one substantial weekness for CE, is that it has terrible support for picture in picture. That affects everything from weapon scopes to security camera displays. That sort of thing seems like it would be pretty important in a futuristic space sim. This weekness bugs me a lot, just because I haven't heard much about them trying to fix it.

My impression from what CiG is putting out is that they are pretty much rewriting large portions of the engine. I am very curious how.much of the original CE will be in the final version.

I not sure what you mean. I think a lot of what isn't available isn't in a playable state yet or is part of SQ42 (which they wouldn't want to spoil).

They keep showing all these cool features and nothing is out to actually play. Its more like a carrot on a stick they keep stringing you along with stuff that wont come out in an acceptable amount of time.

Dont they have CE engine devs on their team to help them with making the engine work like they want to?

Anyone actually tried to program a carrot?

I mean, you can make a pretty picture of a carrot and put it up on kickstarter, but you will have to spend the next X man-hours figuring out and implementing the logistics of a carrot.

Did you see where you can shoot a wing off another craft? And it's not just a simple 3 hitpoints to each of the hitboxes, it's depending on where you shoot the thing. If you don't shoot it off, it'll leave a big hole. If you hit it in the right places you could sever electrical or life support lines that run throughout the ship. I've never seen that in a videogame before.

And that was a side-effect of making just one carrot.

Most people think its push a couple of buttons a draw some nice 3d models and you are done with the game.

They dont comprehend how much work and manhours a game needs.

They think AAA games are made within 1 year from scratch

Unreal engine 3 was pretty good for when I used it, worked really well for my space sim, much better than cryengine. Cryengine looks good, and has pretty graphics but the amount of work they have to do it, it might as well be a new engine.

I really hope the game turns out good I'm a space where, and yeah a lot of people have unrealistic views on how hard it is to make a game.

even taken into account your kind of experience, it just was not viable, he and many of us want a pc exclusive that push the hardware to the max for the next 10 years well beyond 2020, would never happen with the kind of UE3 that came out in 2006.

I bet if UE4 was available back then CR would've picked it.
I guess it's the trend nowdays with games; either you are a hardcore PC GAME, or you live long enough to see yourself become a console port

Ue3 in 2012 is barely the same engine than the release in 2006. Ue4 is the same engine as ue3 just with further changes and a new number. Yeah crying inefficient can do prettier but ue3 has working physics on a massive scale, ce3 goes nuts if you go out of bounds of the map.

Moot point as they using ce3 now.

Yes, but this is a far cry from the intended game.

Yes, but I wasnt addressing the question of whether or not the full game was released. Just stating what has been released for people that still think that nothing has been released.

TBH, I hope the whole thing is developed iteratively like Minecraft, without ever having a large full release. Just a slow burn (but faster than the current rate) with new feature introduced to explore on a semi regular basis. I don't care if that takes a decade or more.

Are you implying I dont know what goes into making a game? I do. You know who else does? Chris Roberts. He stated a big part of the game would be released what... last year? He should have known and planned out his dates accordingly.

Understood, but the piece that Derek Smart wrote makes clear this is a small component of what has been targeted and not yet delivered. It's close to nothing perhaps?

Good read, even the fans of the project should be happy that somebody is asking tough questions. If 25% of your audience wants a refund, are't there some problems?

Also this guy is offering 1 million of is own money to investigate the accounting side of the project.

While I still think this game is coming in the year 2030. I think the guy seems to forget that the more ambitious a game the longer it takes.

SC has been in dev for 3 years, it took GTA5 5 years to get made.

If they wanted to match Derek Smarts record they could release it half finished like his games

If it weren't for the stability issues, IMO, there is already more to do in Arena Commander than all of Elite, unless you like Elite's truck driver simulator component.

The poll made it sound like a question of whether or not CiG should offer a guaranteed refund option. That is different than the percentage of people that actually want a refund.

If anyone actually does want a refund, they should politely contact CiG customer service.

I really didn't feel that way. My experience playing Elite was that the game is a kilometer wide and millimeter deep, it was a PITA trying to hook up with my buddies (takes a ton of time to get everyone to the same location), the ships generally fly pretty similarly and there aren't very many to choose from, the ships handle like ocean liners and the weapons all felt pretty similar.

As far as I can tell, Arena Commander effectively has more game modes, more ships, and more weapons and more fun handling (though that last one is just my opinion). Specifically in regards to dog fighting, star citizen seems to have more content at this time.

I think Elite and Star Citizen are very different games, and will be very different games. They try to do similar things, but emphasis is very different.

I'm more of Elite fan (love it ), and i don't want it to be Star Citizen. And i don't want Star Citizen to be Elite. And it (they) will be not.

I honestly belive both will be great.

Star Citizen fans can expect the FPS module to arrive in '3, 4, 5 weeks' from now.

Might want to check back in 5, 6, or 7 weeks though.
