    Not really...

Traditionally you have a publisher that handles the marketing and advertising of the game that is in development. They do not have a publisher, so they handle their own marketing and advertising. This is one way that they accomplish that, and obviously it works.

People forget that despite all their promises they are still a company with the intent to be profitable. This is no different than pre-release DLC and bundles for new AAA titles. People gobbles those up, and people purchase ships because of these videos.

and im a little annoyed...the ship is next to useless. and there are only 2 game modes to try now.

How will ships be acquired in the future?

cause I don't want to pay 100$ to get a decent ship.
There are five game modes (six if you include free flight.)

        1)Vandul Swarm
        2)Racing
        3)Death Match
        4)Team Death Match
        5)Capture the flag

Maps are gonna get a lot bigger. Loading screens is what I worry about. My guess is that they will mask loading screens with travel time. They still need to cut down load times by a lot.

But I still cannot fathom one person dropping $600 on this.

I mean- how much excess income must you have? What do you do for a living? How many exotic cars must you own? How many mansions must you have? To just drop $600 on a virtual ship.

That's not even first world problems. That's like... I dunno just... wow.
These people are competing with (perceived) other players in the "community". It is the same reason why some people (or, "whales") pay large amount of money to in-game items in crappy F2P/Smartphone games. You know what's so ironic? Many people were upset about the scammy schemes that are the crappy F2P/smartphone; now the kickstart game by the "well-known" developer upped the ante, and proved that you don't even need an actual game to make money in this way.

Videos of ships make money for them, making the actual game doesn't.

So... How pissed is everyone going to be when they spend thousands of real wolrd dollars on ships to have hackers come in with money/ship hacks the first few days and get more equipped than them?

I still don't get why ANYONE would shell out cash on this yet.

Planetary flight is automatic, and basically a pretty map.

Don't get me wrong even though I sold my shop on eBay etc, I want this game to turn out good, but so far. I'm less than impressed. They better blow my socks off at release.

In the long, run there is supposed to be proper atmospheric flight. IIRC, it is in the list of things that are going to be worked on after the persistent universe is released (i.e. it won't be a day 1 feature.)

I've been trying to like Arena Commander, but I just can't. The controls are super floaty and the whole g-force thing completely kills the gameplay. If I turn on relative mode with the m/kb, I can barely fly straight without the pilot passing out.

                                  Arena commander was recently patched.

They made some substantial changes to ship handling. The maps also got expanded some, and more objects were added to the asteroid fields in those maps.

That audio work and volumetric gas shaders seem very interesting

I am always excited when reading their monthly reports always give unpararelled insight into actual game development... Compare that to how developers like ubisoft or rockstar (toward pc gaming)... Hilariously pathetic for those established developers.

It isn't totally a great space sim yet. If you just bought the base Aurora package, you will be very outgunned. The game currently has really long load times.

Basically, if you are going to play the game in its current state, you are going to have to be patient. It seems like they are constantly getting better, but it is still in Pre-Alpha, so temper your expectations. The fun part right now is about trying to participate productively in the game development process.

That's what I bought. Figure it would be something to get into. The potential it has is why I put into it in the first place.

CiG will have 5000 entry level packages on sale for $20 at the end of next week. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/c...niversary-Sale

The justification is that the packages are being subsidized by the sale of 200 Javeline Destroyers for $2500 a pop. You certainly wouldn't catch me plunking down that kind of change, but I would bet dollars to donuts that CiG will handily sell them all. They go on to say that the Javeline will be a super stripped down version that will take some serious effort by an organization to properly equip.

$2500 for a ship?!?! That's the most hilarious thing I've heard all week. The fact that it will probably sell out is even more hilarious. Just when I think CR couldn't get any more brazen he pulls this.... Bravo dude, Bravo.

If you can't see how pricing ships at $2500 is potentially harmful for the playing environment, then you're either a blind CR fanboy (which seems to be the case with most of the people who think this is OK) or you think pay-2-win is cool.

This game is an utter joke. Pay for the game, then you have to pay for ships or you'll be at a severe disadvantage. It wouldn't be much of an issue if this was a F2P game.. but it's not.

The key difference is the people spending money on perfume, diamonds, cars, boats, whatever, all get something physical / tangible out of it. Also, the continuing existence of their tangible items is not dependent on the whims of one dude. If CR suddenly did "fck it I'm out" tomorrow or at any point after the release then everyone would be screwed. If Ford or Chevy or Hugo Boss said "fck it we're closing down" it has no effect on my purchase whatsoever.

I am not concerned for a variety of reasons. For starters, the PU instance architecture allows for some heavy duty match making. Second within a few months, there is gonna be a heavy imbalance between people that play a little vs a lot anyway. Finally, people that are running big ships without skills to match are going to likely find those ships as much of a liability as am asset (I saw this last one a lot in Eve)

The script for the sales pitch on this thing was pretty tame. There are just rabid fans out there, so CiG gives them the option to burn their money if they want to. If someone walked up to you cash in hand and asked you if they could shove $2500 in your pocket, would you turn them down?

I don't like that if it is for an Org then someone has it on their own account currently and not a shared org hangar (since there aren't any org hangars yet) so they could just keep it for themselves and its a lot of cash to lose for that to happen.

The extra 100M to invest is from sales of the finished thing, they don't have it currently just means that they aren't all going to buy villas with the profits and are re-investing it to make the game better over time.
