As others have said, ED will have fuel. And as i understand, it will be key component in exploring around galaxy.

Well then F*CK. Guess I'm not down with either game then. I don't need too much realism in my video games, I just want them to be... You know... Games.

ED is pitched more as a Sim than a simple game and while it's been a while since I've played a flight sim you had to care about fuel in them too.

So, yeah, you are after an arcade flying shooter thing it probably isn't your type of game.

I don't know how ED has been pitched but it doesn't play like a Sim. It's pretty fun so far and I haven't had to worry about fuel at all. Ammo yes (only when using missles or kinetics) but even then it's not bad.

People mostly only post about games on these forums to b#$% about games or to defend games people are b#$% about. I normally consider it a good sign when a thread goes quiet after a content release.

Personally, I have been waiting for another patch. There are some issues with the joystick control configuration that bug me.

I have an X52 set just sitting. I used to use it a lot for LOMAC.

I also have my TrackIR 5 ready to go, I use that when I pull some laps around in pCARS.

HOTAS is cool and all, but I really want to get rudder pedals some day. Rotating the stick is just way too imprecise.

48 million is not that much really when it comes to making these games

watch dogs cost what to make ?
Watch Dogs' Shipped Over 8 Million Units
The sales boost for the first-quarter of the 2014-15 fiscal-year is remarkable, clocking in at €360 million, up 374 percent compared with the €76 million recorded for first-quarter fiscal-year 2013-14
                                          http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain...first-quarter/

                                          costs
looks like 68 million for watch dogs

Star Wars: The Old Republic = $200 million

                                          Defiance = $70 million
You pay $60 for many of the new games you play, but how much does a blockbuster game cost to make? Although it is a seemingly simple question, it is actually incredibly difficult to answer.

It is a lot when you cut out publishers / etc., which makes up the bulk of a games budget. Its been said that the amount they have is equal to a $100+ million dollar game if it were funded / developed the "normal" way.

I laughed my ass of when I saw they hit 48m and released artwork. Maybe they finally realized "hey, we should probably concentrate on finishing what we've already promised instead of promising even more sh*t which won't get released until long after most of our backers are dead"

$48 million... what are they going to do- just pack up and go home? They've the funding, they are working on this game. Probably not afraid to re-do certain things they aren't pleased with, and move a bit slower on the development front with the intention of a more polished final product.

That is all my opinion, and if true it doesn't bother me. I've only pledged $30, so not much of a loss if it turns out to be a well polished turd. However, if it turns out to be a fantastic game then it was one heck of a good deal @ $30.

well I gave them 60 bucks at the start and that's it so far if it comes out this year great but most likely next year the way they are going

but these people spend money like water my sister was a costume cutter fitter in Hollywood for years, worked on ST:TNG, DS9 & Voyager & superman elc.
and it was nothing to spend 200k on 1 costume for something like superman

If I had the money to spend I'd probably be going with a larger ship. As is, if it starts shaping into an actual game () then I'll likely just start pouring money into my Aurora. Even fully upgraded it'll likely be under powered in all areas compared to some of the other ships, however I like a challenge. I like to start small, humble beginnings, and then work up. I don't even know if this is possible, but if development really starts to pick up in a direction I like then maybe I'll purchase multiple Auroras and upgrade each for specific tasks. One outfitted for more combat-type missions, another strictly to haul cargo, and maybe another more geared for long-distance space exploration. It's been a while since I perused the ships available, so maybe there's one that'd be best as an "all-around" type ship that I could purchase after I've fully upgraded my Aurora.

I'm content to wait for now though. I'll give them another 6 months and see where they're at. I've yet to download the DFM. Last time I played around with the game it was just the hangar. Maybe this week I'll DL it sometime and take my Aurora for a spin.

As you can tell, I don't follow this game uber closely... mostly just skim through the e-mails they send.

I gave them $40-$50 at the beginning. Haven't given them another dime since.

There is no "publisher" to cut out anymore really. Most of the big games that cost that much are usually done by in house developers for those publishers or contracted out to 3rd party developers who are fully funded to develop the game by the publisher. Rarely do you get a 3rd party developer making a huge expensive game on their own dime and then shopping it to publishers to get it printed/shipped to shelves anymore due to the cost of development.

That is why many 3rd party developers are turning to Kickstarter, so they can get funding for their game without doing contract work or selling their rights to a publisher just to make the game they want to make but in the end losing control/ownership.

Was at my friend's place last week and got to play a wider variety of ships than just my humble Aurora.

I really like how different the HUD design and voice are for the different manufactures.

So far, compared to Hornet, the 300i seems like it is a superior ship for Arena commander. It is just so much more maneuverable. Hornet feels like it is designed to go up against heavier ships.

BTW, almost every time I see one of the new ships in the store, I am on the edge of just buying it. Makes me feel like a moron, but they are just so shiny. Need to stay strong.

There have been a couple of times I blew up an enemy only to have my ship crippled as I fly through their debri cloud. I think missiles feel reasonably good. You can't carry a lot of them, but they make a good impact when you need em. I hope that missiles in the final game are an expensive resource that you would rather avoid using, but can get you out of a jam when needed.

The size of the Arena feels a little cramped at times. I imagine that is done partly on purpose, to keep players from just running away, and partly an engine limitation.

I am currently withholding any overall judgement until the game is further along. There is enough room in my heart for another game, but not enough in my schedule. I have been tempted to try Elite Dangerous, but have just not had the time. TBH, I have only bothered to play Arena Commander a few times.
