    what I don't like :
    - retarded joystick control setup
    - still not so readable UI
    - flight models rather clumsy despite the solid physics implementation behind it
    - my business hangar look crap even with PBR
    - still no detailed graphics options, no in game AA

    what I like :
    - damage modelling almost (if not on par or exceeding) rivals DCS, I damaged my guns from hitting enemy debris after blown him up closely, this is AFAIK unseen before in combat oriented spaceship games
    - game run much better than expected on my aging hardware
    - graphics of course better than any other spaceship games
    Agree almost 100%.

The only two points I differ on are the business hangar, which I don't care about, and I thought the flight model was a pretty good start.

In addition to this list, I didn't really like the way the missile lock controls work. If the target wasn't in just the right spot, it wouldn't start to lock and if you accidentally pressed the button again while it was locking, it would abort the missile lock.

Also, my rig wasn't really able to keep up. In free flight it worked great, but I had problems with stuttering when AI got into the mix. Was really hoping to hold out on upgrading for another year, but it seems like my poor Q6600 just isn't doing the job anymore and I am also having some stability issues.

Cant decide on what aircraft to start with when purchasing...
Going with either the Avenger or 325a, i guess i need to pinpoint my game style first.

Played it and... Meh. I guess I'm spoiled by elite but I didn't find it too amazing. People are having virtual orgasms over it on the forums though.

Out of both games, without any form of Bias.

Star Citizen is going to be a pretty awesome game if the arena module is anything to go by.

The details, flashyness is top notch stuff, a lot better than Elite in this regard.

Elite has more of a game so far, but Star Citizen is far better in the production department.

I own both so I win either way.

You're kidding? The flight mechanics suck balls compared to ED and the only reason why the "flashyness" is better is they stuck you next to a destroyed moon and a sun-thingy. The sound fx are weak, and there are glitches galore (I have been playing ED since the first alpha version was released, don't remember it being this buggy).

The only thing SC has going for it above ED right now is the proposed exploration and mining mechanics. Discovering jump points / etc. sounds very exciting to me. ED spanks this game like a petulant child in every other aspect.

One thing to note, I do hope they both turn out to be awesome because I love the genre. The more the merrier. Just posting my honest impressions of each (Take note CR fans: IT'S JUST MY OPINION!)

Haven't played ED but the flight mechanics of SC remind me a lot of Independence War. I think this is a good thing. I think it can get better. One aspect that needs I think needs improvement is that I think they should allow for the yaw, roll and pitch to accelerate to higher rates of rotation.

I love the ship design, but I will have to earn it in game. No way I am going to spend $155 for a ship. Especially without the lifetime insurance.

That was my plan as well. To start with my humble Aurora (though I may upgrade it so it's not bone-stock when I jump in game) and then work my way up.

Why would ships, which are the whole purpose of the game, be hidden behind gigantic pay walls of hundreds of dollars? What a greedy, disgusting bunch of developers. They already robbed you on Kickstarter, and have failed to hit just about every deadline they had set (very professional, by the way) and people are throwing then hundreds of dollars to pay for a single item/vehicle in a game that revolves around those items/vehicles.

I do hear what you're saying, and it is something that concerns me about this game but likely for a different reason. I'm really concerned about this becoming a "pay-to-win" sort of game. My hope is that emphasis will be on PvE, not PvP. I don't want to start out in my humble (though likely upgraded to the hilt) Auror just to be destroyed every sessions by some jack-ass that was wealthy enough to drop the coin for a far better ship.

That will literally kill the game for me. I want to explore, I want to trade and barter, I want to play the game with emphasis on PvE, not worrying about other players crapping the experience for me. And the truth is there are gamers out there with insanely deep pockets that can afford to drop money like this, and it not be that big of a deal for them. Is their wealth going to ruin the experience for guys like me? Even if I did buy the Freelancer, $155 is a little over an 1/8th of a paycheck for me. I can't afford to just go and buy another one. The Aurora is cheap enough I'm not worried about it. But $155 is $155.

So I get what you're saying, but on the other hand there is no publisher with deep pockets backing this game. I think the implementation was flawed from the get go, and now Chris is forced into this model. To clarify that: I think when he started this on Kickstarter he wasn't 100% sure what kind of backing he'd get. So he focused on alluring as many people as he could to maximize the number of backers to this game. I think the support has taken him 100% by surprise, but now that he made those earlier promises luring people into pledging money, he doesn't want to cheapen those pledges. I'm specifically referring to the people whom pledged large amounts of money early on. To now offer those ships at a far more realistic price would likely piss off those whom pledged large amounts of money early on.

So why not have started out with everything being cheaper? Again, I assume Chris was probably expecting far less support. Thus he put the prices higher. He knew he'd need a lot of money for this game, but probably figured it was catering to an extremely niche market thus not expecting as many backers as he now has. So he initially set the prices high. A small amount of people but each contributing a higher dollar value still gives them money to work with for development, versus that same small amount of people paying considerably less.

However that's not how it wound it working out. I think far more people got behind this than Chris ever anticipated, so now he had a very large group of people most of whom pledged a large amount towards the game. So now if he started selling those ships for a cheap price, it'd kinda' piss on those people's pledges.

With hindsight being 20/20 it's pretty obvious that he could have cut the initial pledge prices in half and still would have well over $10 million to put towards this game. Probably over $20 million. Make the prices a quarter of what they were (and are) and he'd still likely have between $10 million and $20 million in pledges, maybe more as he'd be making it affordable to more people.

At least that is my take on it. Granted I do not visit the forums (never posted there, never even browsed them) and only skim the e-mails they send me so maybe I'm a bit ignorant on the matter.

Regardless, I am only out $30. That Freelancer is an amazing looking ship, and the features and capabilities seem impressive. I do want it. I could buy it, but it's quite a lot of money for me to be out. And will it be destroyed my first time playing the game? That'd royally piss me off if so.

Will I buy the Freelancer? Probably not. As the game progresses if I keep liking what I'm seeing I'll probably start pouring money into my Aurora. I do want that Freelancer though, and I wonder how hard it'll be to earn it in-game. This again brings up that PvP aspect. I'm really hoping other players aren't able to ruin the experience for me.

I've never really cared about what people do with their own money, but it takes a special kind of moron to support a developer who is robbing gamers so heavily. How the hell can you guys not see how disgusting this is? None the less support it..

If that makes me a hater, well.. So be it. Chris Roberts is the one who robbed you, not me. Maybe when the guy learns how to hit a single ****ing deadline he can ask for $100+ for ships in a game that requires you to, you know, be in ships.

                                                                          Insanity.

I am a little concerned, but withholding judgement until release. I am really here for squadron 42 anyway.

One thing I don't buy is this exploration Bs, with the way the game is design ed and the engine it is on. Exploration will basically be a loading screen.

The game is too hand crafted to have any sort of real exploration, and even more so you are going to have a game with non realistic scale, and 20 ships on a recent max otherwise performance will be at 5fps,unless you drop details massively or have quad titans.

The planets etc are basically backgrounds, but we'll see. I just have this x3 type Gameplay in my mind basically those stargazer are the loading screen etc.

At least elite you can do interplanetary travel etc.

I'd love to be proven wrong but we'll see.

Exploration will also be a b*tch due to having fuel to worry about. I don't play video games to worry about sh*t like if I'll run out of gas while out on a cruise. It's what century in the future and you can find / ride wormholes but you can't make a ship that runs off a future reactor that doesn't require future 87 octane?

ED may not have jump point discovery and the like but at least I don't have to worry about filling up the wagon before going on a trip

Are things set up where you only maintain speed by burning fuel? Cause I'd kind of like to revisit space games where I can just shut off my engines and maintain momentum through space.

Edit: Watched a few videos and it sounds like you can cut the computer/engines and just drift out into space.
