WOW! Talk about some of the backers being pricks. And the devs seem just as bad. I ask one if they supported chat attacks on people that ask unpopular questions and the reply was they appreciated the passion. This game and its devs can suck my ****! Their twitch updates are reminiscent of a ****ing Tea Party ConventionLast edited by Dungeoncrawler; May 8, 2014, 08:00 AM.

It boggles my mind how much people can get invested in things. Sure I kickstarted, but at like the basic level. Some people kickstarted with $1000+ right off the bat... then proceeded to buy additional ships as they were unveiled.
It's not like this thing is limited to kickstarter, alpha games, or anything... it's just as bad on f2p and stuff. I can sort of understand buying a few things and spending a couple hundred if you're hyped and have money to throw away... but goddamn people seem to have 50x the money than they do sense in a lot of cases.
I'd also say that what comes out of some backers doesn't speak for most of them... I'd say the vast (numeric) majority of backers don't even really use their forums, follow their updates closely, or participate in livestreams. I think being so invested in it does bring out a sort of cult mentality though - it just has to be good or you've thrown your money away and look foolish (even though no one may really look at you that way). Also twitch chat probably rates between reddit and 4chan in the quality of discourse that goes on there.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

Imo everything hinges on the release of the DFM. If it fails, the project as a whole will probably do the same going forward. Reading the reddit forums though, there are lots of people who could care less if its ever released. I think they just like belonging to something bigger than themselves and don't give a crap about the game becoming a reality.Last edited by Dungeoncrawler; May 8, 2014, 08:13 AM.

It's scary that your "citizen number" is your ranking for getting access to content... I get it, but that doesn't exactly sit well
Also on an unrelated note, who's backed the project but just deletes every update email they send? There are a lot of them, there's a lot of info in them I don't care about, and they offer like single sentence blurbs as to what each section actually comprises. I long for the days when you sent actual content in emails, not just links to all over the internets.Desktop: Intel Core i7 7770k : 16GB EVGA DDR4 2400 : Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Windforce X2 : Gigabyte GA-H270-WIFI : AudioQuest DragonFly DAC : Samsung SM961 NVMe 1TB SSD : Corsair Builder 500W PSU : Samsung 1440p 32" Monitor : Klipsch Promedia 2.1 : Windows 10 Pro x64

I've pledged $30. Considering that I'm guaranteed a copy of the full game whenever it comes out, plus the benefits of being an early backer- I'm satisfied. I avoid those forums, and pretty much skim the e-mails they send unless I see something of interest. If I do, I investigate further.
I've yet to see anything that'll incline me to pledge any more, and they wont get an additional cent from me until I'm impressed with the progress they've made.
$30, I think, is a fair price if the game even meets half the expectations. It's half of what most big-name AAA games go for. With the potential of far more hours of enjoyment.
The internets is serious business, I know (), but I'm not going to allow the forum posts of overzealous fans ruin a potentially awesome game for me.

screw the haters!
29th may is the day!
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13883-Arena-Commander-Weekly-Report-May-12-16
Let me begin with the information you most want to hear: we intend to launch Arena Commander in two weeks, on May 29th.The goal is that every backer will have access to the single player “Free Flight” and “Vanduul Swarm” games modes on this day, and the very first batch of multiplayer testers will get access to the game’s multiplayer game modes. We will scale up the multiplayer as quickly as possible starting on that date, increasing the number of players as it is stable and stopping to fix bugs where needed.
This date is based on our best possible projections using the latest information put together by Star Citizen’s production team as of this afternoon. This is a big part of what the often-unseen production side of game development does: schedule out every task they believe is required for a game to ship. Sometimes (in fact, more often than not) things go wrong and these forecasts change: bugs we don’t foresee appear, features we didn’t realize we needed become necessary and so on. This is why we haven’t had a solid release date yet; it’s not to better schedule marketing or because we want to keep you out of the cockpit… it’s because game development is a complex beast, and there are few games more complex than Star Citizen! At this point, we’re close enough that we feel fairly confident in this date… but the next two weeks will be a march!
x 1 billion!!!
