Developers should stop with semi free / paid entry alpha test and go back to the days of strictly inviting people based on their testing skills.

Anyone who judges a final game by either the alpha or beta test phases should be banned from ever testing any future games from all companies. I've not backed this game and I can't say I am looking forward for so what I am saying is not based on fanboyism but it really erks me to hear people complain about the playable state of alpha and beta stage games.

You paid strictly to fund the development with the reward of having early access, that stated early access does not need to meet any standard of game play for the players in fact you are lucky that developers put the effort in to making it playable when they could be focusing on internal testing.

It is okay to voice your opinion as to the state of it and to assist in making it better but god would I love to punch anyone who complains about poor performance or lack of content.

This is my stance. I'm expecting the reveal to have some bugs, I'm expecting glitches and the need for multiple patches. Can we even call any of this alpha? Isn't it more pre-alpha?

Looking forward to seeing what they put out though, and looking forward to flying around in my little ship finally.

LoL, you guys are crying and they are still on the front end of making this game...

Lol, I'm not crying. I got a refund for all but two ships and just hope to have some fun exploring the universe whenever it gets released. I'm really having a blast with the "competitor" elite dangerous. It's just that a LOT of people are expecting this DFM to be nearly orgasmic and I'm going to be laughing my ass off at all the rage.

I don't frequent the forums so it's possible I'm missing out on a lot.

Anybody who expects this to be polished deserves to be disappointed. This will be buggy and unoptimized. I'm going to be amazed if it's not.

the best gameplay video so far with good quality

I don't know about you but I didn't expect it to be this good, sure it was buggy but given time it will be solved, but most importantly this is a prelude to how great a modern spaceship game can be, significantly better than what I used to imagine when playing 90s or 2000s spaceship games

Oh god half way into that vid and I felt like slapping him from playing it with a joypad, thumb sticks are not equal to an actual stick or a mouse when it comes to flight controls and it looked simply horrendous to be played with such god awful controls.

With that said though, although it's being played with a joypad it didn't have any sort of guidance or sticky fallow that you would expect from a game designed to be played with a pad, that is both a good thing and a bad thing. I understand why people like using pads but its ill suited for most forms of gaming without some sort of assist to compensate for jerky movement.

Other then that it looked fairly decent, I mainly liked the interface and the way its 3d ish and not a simple flat overlay. Is it just me or are the fighters a little on the brittle side, I mean I love the whole each part has its own damage model and effect on the ship but it seams like a slight tap at the moment sends your entire ship scattering in different directions. I'm guessing they don't have the full ship damage models in yet other then it falling apart.

Watched a bit of the livestream of showing off the dfm and basic multiplayer yesterday, in the interviews they talked about bugs quite a bit. While they showed some damn cool stuff, there was also at least one full crash to desktop on stage.

It's very much an alpha product, but what is finished-ish does look good. There's a lot of complexity and detail under the hood and even though there's still tons of bugs and missing things, it is shaping up to be interesting.

I'm not sure if I would believe much of any actual time estimate for the full launch of the SP or MP portions of the game, but you can certainly see progress and promise.

Weren't you making a space sim using the Cry Engine at one time? What ever happened to that?

/wipes your memory with a Men in Black flash stick

Many things, primarily couldn't find people interested in modelling, which caused major major issues, Cryengine 2 ****ing sucked ass for Space Sims, so does Cryengine 3 to a extent, but they have source code so it's not TOO bad

Also had family issues going on at the end, then a emotionally abusive ex, etc.

I would have to start from scratch again, so i've lost all interest in making a space sim.

well I have a question for you, based on the latest reveal video can you judge whether or not the planets/huge broken asteroid shown in the background were real 3d objects with correct size or just backdrops?

It's a toughie, because judging by the video the backdrop was moving with the ship in motion, indicating to me it's a 3D model, as a skybox object would be static (in cryengine). HOWEVER this was with Cryengine 2, but the same problem also persisted in early test versions of Cryengine 3. (Yes I know both are essentially the same engine just with a 3 instead of a 2 )

The biggest problem I had was I wanted almost realistic scale, my biggest gripe was planets in space games are so tiny compared to your space ship it destroys the illusion of scale. However with many attempts to make large planets (they got fairly big but still not massive) eventually the models would bug and just disappear, so I had to reduce the scale.

So I'm quite curious to this myself, if they managed to edit the source code of the engine and fix the issues that I had, then it easily could be a massive 3d Model.Don't forget with a space sim, 95% of the geometry you'd find in a normal game is gone just because it's basically A empty void with objects. So you have a lot of free polygons/texture to use on things that wouldn't be as detailed in a normal game, because you're rending tree's, terrain etc.

My understanding of how they got around that limitation is to stream blocks of maps so that when you hit the size limit you are then put in the next map when you reach the edge. So you can zoom around and never notice the size limit. So each system is made up of hundreds of thousands maps. There won't be any loading screens as things are cached on the fly.

So you can zoom around and never notice the size limit. So each system is made up of hundreds of thousands maps. There won't be any loading screens as things are cached on the fly.

And what a noticeable world of difference it makes. Fairly positive first hand accounts overall of playing at the booth, certainly no glitches as when multiplayer is enabled.

As a zero-order control device, the mouse will always be more accurate than your joystick. Assuming Freespace 2 type controls for the mouse, the only advantage that joystick users will have is the ability to easily turn forever and at constant rate. When it comes to dogfighting in fast and agile ships though, I fully expect the mouse's superior accuracy to dominate.
